Great job Elliot! I first met Max on the end of one of Sepultura's first headlining tours in 1990. Back then I would take a VHS camcorder to shows and try to interview bands after. Max was so kind to let me ask him some questions on camera. The next time the band played Columbus, I brought him a copy of the video, Each time they would come to town, I would provide a tape of the previous visit. I did this with a few bands but Max was super appreciative. I was supposed to do an interview with him on the bus during after a show but Zyon was sleeping (he was an infant back then) Max said he was sorry and gave me a Sepultura shirt. He didn't have to do that. Anyway, he asked for my address. A few months later I got a letter in the mail and it was from Max. He wrote me thanking me for the tapes and sent me some pictures of the band performing on stage during the Ozzy tour. He even told me that we could hang out if I could make it to Phoenix. I never took him up on that offer back then. I have visited Phoenix several times over the last few years and always think about those days. I really doubt he remembers me but that letter was one of my most proudest metal moments. I still have it to this day. Thank you for keeping metal alive for the younger generation! \\m// \\m//

It was crazy, White zombie came out and was throwing pumpkins and also Pantera was there too. It was a crazy show, I got a black eye because some shit bird kicked me in the face while crowd surfing in the pit. Yay.

My band got to play with Soulfly a few years ago. I didn't get to meet Max but I really wanted to. I have followed his career since the first Sepultura albums and it was a really big deal to me to play with them.
True story I got kicked out of a Cavalara Conspiracy show in Dallas @The Trees 2012 for having a beer without an ID. I was 32 and had some gray hair! Max saw what was going on as he was heading off the bus to go play and grabbed me by the arm and pulled me back into the show and told them that I was with them. Best show I ever saw in my entire life thus far. Thanks Max you are a real awesome human!!!

Soulfly is easily in my top 3 thrash metal bands of all time. I have all their albums but what I remember most was buying their first one back in 1998. It was so memorable. Great interview here. When Sepultura first got to The States, they were staying locally, Elliot. They used Mayfair in Philly as sort of their American base camp. The NJ thrash band Faith Or Fear were sort of hosting them, like Anthrax did for Metallica.
