On mine the oil from the engine was the same oil used throughout the whole transmission. I have a big filter and it has oil lines going from the engine to the housing. I'm wondering since you now have a different engine if it's getting hot because oil isn't recirculating.
The issue was low oil. Gravely did use this transaxle with many different non-integrated engines. They just added more oil. My issue was I was thinking I needed 4 qts of oil when I needed 5.
