  • Hi, this video shows you how to use the HDMI over Ethernet Cable adaptors to extend a HDMI signal using CAT6 cables.
    In the video I refer to 'HDMI over Ethernet' as most people call these cheap adapters that BUT really 'HDMI over Ethernet' would mean 'HDMI over IP' which is a different and more expensive product and these cheap adapters would be better called HDMI over twisted pair adapters or HDMI over CAT5E/6 adapters.
    In the video I use them to connect up to a PC to TV and also a Roku media player to TV. They are useful if you already have network cabling in place or if you don't want to drill big holes to install the thicker HDMI plugs/cables. If you get good ones then they will work over greater distances than HDMI cables but the versions in the videos are the cheapest available and unfortunately the advertised distance of 30m did not happen so I used 15m Ethernet cables instead and they work very well. They are very easy to use and just work as soon as you plug them in. No drivers or downloads are needed.
    Many thanks Vince

    very well presented - thank you. Alas I bought the bi-cable cheapo ones not realising that they wont work over my Cat6 LAN. I didn't realise they were essentially point to point connectors - BUT ta for explaining it to me.

    Hi Vince,
    Your video is exactly what I needed to show me what HDMI to utp converters are all about.
    However, That is not why I’m commenting. It’s the way you created the video. Not sure how you did it as it looked so natural with your hands coming in and out both sides of the screen. It looked like what you were looking at, or what I should be looking at. You must have put quite a bit of time into how to make it seem so natural, the video was properly placed so I could see exactly what you wanted me to see. Its just good. Plenty of kudos all over you!!
    Thank you for your hard work.

    nice video, i must say however, when doing this whatever cat cable you run cat 5 or 6 even shielded wire try to stay away from high voltage wires such extension cords or junction boxes. also if you do manage to run your cat5/6 wires in a attic or basement or inside your walls stay away from your homes high voltage wires. try to be at least 2 feet away when running parallel to get one place to another or simply run everything higher than everything else. you can cross your wires to an extant but not parallel and really close to each other or even through coils of high voltage. reason being high voltage wire has a greater/stronger magnetic field than your low voltage wire which can interfere with your data. just food for thought for those of you who want to do some diy in your home.

    Sounds like a good option for installing HDMI into the wall if tubes already exist. Way easier to get a CAT6 through the tube compared to HDMI and 15m is pretty reasonable for most scenarios.

    I used a HDMI to Cat5 adapter over a distance of over 75 meters across a hockey arena. The key to getting high performance over long distance is by combining the ethernet adapters with an HDMI active repeater. The HDMI repeater boosts the transmitting signal before it goes through the ethernet adapter. Only downside is the removal of any HDMI-CEC compatibility.

What if I leave one port totally open? because in his demo, he is showing roku as the transmitter and TV as the receiver. Would you have success at 30mtrs if each adapter was powered? The attenuation will only travel so far, thus only having a clear picture at 15mtrs. You can run Cat5/6 upto 100mtrs usually without any problems (sheilded or not) if the signal is strong enough to travel from one end to the other.

    My NVR is in the front room and my tv is in other room and the cat5e cable length is 20-25mtr.

    What is the Best cat 6 cable for the extension. UTP of FTP

  • @L1m3r
    @L1m3r 7 лет назад +18

    Shielded cables make a big difference. Especially in this case Cat 6 UTP only has a guaranteed bandwidth of 250MHz. Cat 6A doubles that (500MHz) and is at least F/UTP or U/FTP. Of course S/FTP is even better and Cat 5e S/FTP will probably work better than your Cat 6 UTP cables.
    These adapters may even need a shielded cable to work properly.

    Can you tell me where to buy the one cable converters? .

    Great video. I do have a couple of questions. First, will this only work by directly connecting the cables, or will it still work if you connect via an ethernet hub? I have my PC next to the router in one room, and then use cable from the router to a hub in the living room for the TV and other devices. Secondly, do you think that transmission distance might be improved by better cable? I'm using Cat 10 cable between rooms right now.

      it' can work if u connect 2 hub for each cable , not the 2 cable in same hub , bcuz it's 2 signal different ,, so typically if u use hub it's for double for 2 or 3 tv ,, in this case you need 1 hub for each cable , cable A = hub 1 , Cable B = hub 2 ,,

    I used same ends but for some reason it comes on then cuts out. Then comes on and cuts out. It doesn’t stay on the screen full time any ideas why?

    Does it have to be a direct connection with cat6 or can you plug it into a cat 6 socket which is connected to a switch and pick it up off any other cat 6 socket in the house?

      Does not work as this is just using the copper of the cable not the Ethernet protocol.

    Good video. Any ideas why you need to run two network cables for the chunky sized ones?

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  7 лет назад +1

      I haven't taken them apart but I believe the chunky ones just convert the pins of the HDMI onto the wires. So the HDMI has 19 pins( from memory) and it doesn't use them all and 2 Ethernet cables have 16 wires so it is just connecting each pin to each wire.

    • @DanielJohnHowTo
      @DanielJohnHowTo 7 лет назад

      Thanks for you. Ah I see, I only mentioned it because two lots of wires isn't ideal but I suppose if you want it to work etc.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  7 лет назад

      Yes, it is not ideal so the other one in the video the more expensive single cable version would be better.

    Will this adapter work for a tv? I am trying to connect cat5 from my router to my tv, but I do not have Ethernet port on my tv so I am trying to use the adapter plugged into hdmi port on my tv.

      u need 2 separate cable ethernet , they can never insert in the same switch or hub ,, if u have 2 socket in your wall ,, u need that they separate in the switch too , ( or have 2 switch separate for each cable ) and don't mix them with internet cable , it's must be isolated from internet cable or switch .

    Hi! I have my all HD sources (Etisalat TV, XBOX 360, PC, Chromecast Ultra, My security DVR, APPLE TV) in my living room near my main router and my LG 4K Smart TV. I have Google Home, Samsung Smartthings and Logitech Harmony for my home automation mainly restricted to my living room. I have another TV in my second room, and Ethernet cable running through the walls from main router to my living room and I want to do the following:
    1) To be able to connect the Ethernet out from my 2nd room to a old router which works as an Access Point for better internet connection as well provides me additional Ethernet ports for multiple connections.
    2) To be able to access and control all sources from 2nd room using HDMI over ETHERNET. Thus, want to transmit Internet, Video, Audio and if possible, IR signals to control my HDMI sources.
    I plan to :
    1) Connect all my input HDMI into an HDMI 6*2 MATRIX with IR Capabilities to switch between Inputs remotely.
    2) connecting HDMI over Ethernet transmitter to HDMI output 2 from my matrix and then to my main Router in living room.
    3) in my 2nd Room, Ethernet out port will connect into my 2nd router working as Access Point (which will have 3 empty Ethernet out ports to be used)
    4) one Ethernet port output will connect to HDMI over Ethernet Reciever and then into HDMI input of my TV or Home theater getting both Video and Audio from multiple sources being selected through the HDMI matrix in my living room.
    5) other free Ethernet ports can be accessed for wired internet access if needed.
    Can you please suggest if it's possible by using the HDMI MATRIX and HDMI over Ethernet? Also, if you can, please suggest any suitable HDMI MATRIX and HDMI over Ethernet you may know of or recommend.
    Need some guidance on this before I start this project.

    Could I use these on a hdmi splitter that is connected to a hdmi switch to then send the signal to multiple TVs threw ethernet to different rooms in the house?

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  7 лет назад +3

      You can but each TV would need one or two Ethernet cables depending on the HDMI adapter you get, it won't pass the signal through a Network Switch. You can get HDMI over IP but these are still expensive.

      My Mate VINCE hello, sorry your answer is a bit confusing. Can i use HDMI over cat5e cable with a HDMI splitter just like in your other video on feb 2016, but you used HDMI cables for that setup instead at that time. Have you tried it? Please answer. 👍
