    Hi great video, thank you. I guess when assigning an MDM server to a platform such as iPads, it is All or Nothing? For example if I need some iPADs to not get auto assigned, then I need to configure this as NONE and manually do them all?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes if you are going to use the automation, it is all or nothing. I would say if most of your devices are going to the same MDM use the automation to do that and then go in manually and search for the few exceptions that you need to remove. And vice versa if you have more devices that need to be manually assigned

    I have a mobile app developed for a company. How can I distribute it to them instead of publishing in app store? I have Apple Business Manager and a developer account in separate Apple IDs. How can I distribute to that particular client? Please help. (All the devices are self owned by users of the app)

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  11 месяцев назад +1

      You can distribute that privately to buisness and organizations through Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager. I have experience on the customer side, but don't have experience on the developer side. But here are two KB's that go over the process and App Store Connect and ABM, I hope that helps:

    If you had a user start at your organisation would you typically make them a managed apple ID, sync with intune and then setup the phone?

    What is the break point where you would recommend a small business to upgrade from apples MDM? 5 devices? 10, 15? Or is it more about use case (advanced features like VPN and single app)?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  11 месяцев назад

      Determining the best MDM solution depends on your specific needs. If you require basic management tasks such as pushing WIFI profiles, enabling PIN codes for security, and deploying productivity apps, any MDM should suffice regardless of the number of devices. In this case, you can choose a budget-friendly option like Apple Business Essentials or Jamf Now.
      However, if you require more advanced features and capabilities, it may be necessary to upgrade to a more robust MDM solution. Advanced features could include scripting capabilities, integration with identity providers like Okta or Azure AD, or leveraging new features like Platform SSO for IDP integration and account creation.
      I hope this information helps guide you in choosing the right MDM solution. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!

    7:12 what if the users already have "personal" apple ID"s using the corporate email? Will it clash with the AD one?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  11 месяцев назад

      Certainly! Unfortunately, you cannot use your work email for both personal iCloud and Work iCloud. If you federate your Apple Business Manager (ABM) to create managed Apple IDs, and users set up their personal iCloud using their work-domain email, Apple will send them an email notifying them that their company is taking ownership of the ID. As a result, the user would need to associate their iCloud account with another email address.
      It's important to note that during this process, the user retains all their apps, purchases, iCloud data, and other personal information. They simply need to transfer it to a different email address for the work account to take ownership. Rest assured, the company will not have access to any of the user's personal data.
      I hope this explanation clarifies the situation for you. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    We are a small company of 3 people and have 3x MacBook Pro 2015 13 inch laptops and 1x iPhone 11 (retro I know)
    Currently we operate by one Apple ID being signed in to all devices and just working with iCloud syncing the files onto all devices so we can have up to date documents and info.
    I purchased Office Home & Business 2021 for Mac and signed into word, excel etc using the Microsoft account email.
    we encountered a problem as two of us had the same document open and then when the other went back onto the document they realised al their work hadn't been saved as I assume the other person saved it last which overwrote all the other persons work?
    What is the best way to stop this happening? how do we collaborate on Microsoft? do we have to have three separate Apple ID's for the three laptops and also three separate Microsoft accounts with the products on our own laptops?
    How would this stop the overwriting of documents when both are open at the same time?

Do they then add a token? If so, can you recommend a free MDM, we have two devices with Apple and I don't want to pay. Regards

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  Год назад

      You will need an MDM to distribute those apps you see in ABM. Within your MDM there is a token authentication between your MDM and ABM that essentially passes the applications in ABM to your MDM for distribution. You can use a 3rd party MDM like Jamf, Kandji, VMware Workspace One, Intune and others, or you can also sign up and use Apple’s Business Essentials that is integrated directly into ABM

Next question, these devices are Automatically device enrolled, so we need them to be automatically device enrolled for the Intune side as well, what is the best way to enroll 30k existing ios/iPad devices to Intune? Is it done thru the apple business manager portal or in Intune?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  Год назад +1

      No right way here. One thing I have seen admins do is, first move everything in ABM from one to MDM server to another. Don’t worry any changes in ABM won’t take effect till the device is reset. Then once they are aligned to the new MDM server, you can wipe devices from the admin console via wipe command. From there end users will need to complete the new set up, but with them tied to ABM would be low touch. However, there is still room for error in having end users do that. Communication is key there. Other solutions would be you can look at that would cost are solutions like Ground Control or Apple’s tool called APU (Apple Provisioning Utility), which is a wired based solution that would allow you to set up docks where end users put their devices and the utility would auto wipe and provision to the new MDM, however there are costs to those.
      To your second question, once devices are aligned to the MDM server in ABM and policies and such are setup in Intune, once those devices are reset automated device enrollment will take over. This still requires some touches, including authentication. I would be happy to introduce you to a CDW Solution Architect who can help with these workflows

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  Год назад

      If you release a device from ABM, nothing will happen to that device till it is reset. If you release it and don't do anything in the MDM, at reset the device will not enroll in MDM because there is no MDM to handoff to at setup. In the MDM if you release, that will be a ghost device in the MDM until an admin removes it

      ABM standalone won't do any of that, you will need to purchase an MDM to have those type of device controls, and then integrate ABM into the MDM for supervised device controls. However, you can look at Apple Business Essentials, which is Apple's MDM, it has some of those controls that you may be looking for. Business Essentials is available with the ABM portal and is a per month subscription. It is more User privacy focus, which means that it may not have all the devices controls that a full fledge MDM, like Jamf, may have

    Trying to find an answer but seems no one knows, hoping mr content creator you might. I've added our company domain to Apple Business Manager and created managed iCloud accounts with it. However now end users can't create iCloud accounts their end with the work email address. Do you know if I remove our company from the domain list if that will then allow for fresh email addresses using our domain to be able to be created by end users again?.

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  Год назад

      So it sounds like you have federated your domain to allow creation of managed Apple IDs, correct? If that is what you have done then users that are creating and have created a personal iCloud with the corporate email, they would be forced to go through a transfer process so that the company can take control of that domain Apple ID. Users would receive an email from Apple with migration instructions. However I don’t believe that is what you are fully asking. If you remove the federation that would allow new users to create Apple IDs from the corporate domain. Those would be personal and unmanaged Apple ids at that point. I am not 100% what would happen to current managed Apple ids already created from federation. Let me know if I am understanding correctly.

      Managed Apple IDs are not to be used with tools like purchasing App Store apps (Apps are to be deployed through MDM) or Apple Pay. They were not designed to have those privileges. They do give the ability to link your corporate AD to use a single login and SSO for enrollment and authentication, as well as Managed Apple IDs, all work-based iMessage, Facetime, iCloud Drive, and other apps that support Work association.

      If they are getting that iCloud password notification. In that case, most likely, you are provisioning the public application directly through the MDM and not purchasing the application through ABM and having it synced to your MDM for distribution. You will want to remove that current app from your MDM, purchase the same app from ABM, connect your ABM via VPP token to your MDM, and then redistribute that app through your MDM.
      Many MDMs categorize apps as internal (custom apps manually uploaded), public (apps from the public app store, most likely what you may be using now), and purchased (these are the apps purchased directly from ABM). You want to ensure you are distributing the purchased apps from ABM, which will remove the error your users are getting. Apps from ABM, distributed via MDM, are owned by you and carry that ownership to the device they are installed on

I have not fully tested it yet but it is targeted toward SMB and use cases where you may not need really advanced MDM and identity management tools.

      Apps purchased via ABM and/or distributed through the MDM public app store will not support in-app purchases. If you have apps with in-app purchases, your users must purchase directly on the device via your outlined purchasing policies.

    Also how do I allow users to download apps?

    • @5MinuteMobility

      That is where an mdm also comes into play. You can assign apps and silent auto install or give users the option to download apps they need after enrollment via the mdm created app catalog.

    How do we update the apps on the devices though? please help lol

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  Год назад

      Once you sync the apps from ABM to your MDM, the MDM takes over and the MDM manages and controls the updates, allowing you as the admin to allow or disallow updates of apps and assign them to users and devices

    What if former employer enrolls your private device without consent into MDM?? I need help with this please. Apple will Not give me any information. I purchased my device and never signed or agreed to any type of monitoring ? How can I prove my former employer did this and stole my private DATA?

      Did they supervise it, meaning did they put into their Apple Business Manager to allow the highest management level. You can try to remove the MDM configuration by opening settings, then General, and scroll down to VPN and Profile. You can then delete the MDM profile there. That will prompt removal of MDM. However, if the device is supervised they may have a policy preventing that. If they do not you can delete, you should not need to wipe and reset, but if you do and it prompts to log back into MDM, you will know it is supervised. Additionally, if it is supervised when you open settings it will display a text below your profile icon alerting you to that status. If it is supervised, I would advise going to apple wiht your proof of ownership to remove

    For some reason when I sign our user into the apple products with the apple ID, it logs in fine but none of the apps that are assigned a location appear on the device. They only have the standard apps that apple products come with. The get button in the app store is greyed out too.

      MDM stands for Mobile Device Management. It is a software that is installed on devices like iOS, macOS, Android, Windows, that allows admins security controls on a device. Here is a great article that goes into what MDM is: www.techtarget.com/searchmobilecomputing/definition/mobile-device-management
