The maestro's voice, if you are listening to it without knowing who he is, it sounds perfect like an Englishman's English in the old days...he was so complete in so many ways!!
The 60s was the birth of the direct cinema. The directors armed with their sight and sound equipments almost grab Ray and his cast and crew by the collars during work. As filmmakers a lot can be learnt by intently watching this film - the way he directs, the methods he applies to location scouting, the preps he goes through - up close and personal. Thanks to Sayantan for uploading this gem of a film. This is also precious for film appreciators who want to watch, the director at work, but also , a good direct cinema.
I am particularly caught by the simplicity of appearance of every single person in this video , be it actors or actresses or producers , directors , designers. No vanity .
Its an honor as a Bengali to witness the genius 'Maharaja' at work!! Such dedication and finesse is rare as is his calibre to compose music, design costumes and even 'draw' the screenplay. How I wish I was born in the 'Ray-era' - atleast would have had the privilege to see this great man 'in person'. As the quintessential Bengali says on his birthday...'Maharaj, tomare selam'!!
Satyajit Ray was a magnificent and accomplished personality. He still lives in our hearts , and will persist on living. He paved the way in filmmaking, his words , his crafts on making a film , his profound comprehensive speculation on society and inter relation between tribes and layers in society mesmerized us all the time. But intermittently we fail to learn from him , many people now don't feel enough the necessity to contemplate in his life . We have to exploit this stalwart persona , our way of living will be changed from it's core .
Very rare collection indeed. Satyajit Ray sounds british. The way he speaks English, seems like he lived in Britain for a long time. He has british accent. Thank you!!!
This is possibly only interview where Subrata Datta and Karuna Bandyopadhyay speaking together about Ray. In my experience it is best video of Ray at work. Thanks for sharing.
I have always liked this way of speaking English.. It reminds me of my geography teacher she was very angrez like.. Really wanna do what Mr Ray did.. Create things The Way I Want! ⚡
Legend in Action 💎💎in my schooldays I watched his flims in doordarshan,, flims are pather panchali,, mahanagar,, charulatha, Nayak,, , kanchen junga,, I am very much impressed without knowing who the filmmaker was,,,,,,, I am from taMilnadu,,,
Far removed from today’s mechanized living. Evokes philanthropy, consciousness and reminds our duty towards left behind people in Bengal and the world at large. That probably is the single biggest contribution and achievement of this legend Satyajit Ray.
Thanks Mr. S. Dutta, this is a jewel of an upload. Ray at work is simply mesmerizing! Karuna Bannerjee´s perfect English took me by surprise. Ray´s genius will be appreciated by connoisseus for generations to come. From Sweden.
Believe me I forgot it is 2020...!!! Masterpiece ... thank you very much for uploading this....I miss Mr Satyajit Ray everyday ...and the Japanese director was 💯 percent correct...🙏🙏🙏
Ufff what a resonating voice of Mr Ray the only person who can easily eclipse Bachchan’s baritone....btw it’s a very precious video thnx for uploading 👍🏻

You've read my comment sans context, I'm afraid. @Amritnidhi News had referred to Ray as a "cinematographer", prompting my reply. He has since edited his comment and opted to call him a "Genius Film Director", rendering my comment meaningless.
What an excellent videos that bumped into my feed. Absolutely stunning piece on Ray. Lots of outdoors, vignettes of 60s Calcutta and rare glimpses to see and hear his team. Loved hear Karuna Bandyopadhyay for the first time. Thanks a lot for uploading.
This is a gem and all kudos to Sayantan Dutta.....best ever available ( also considering the Shyam Benegal one) specially I think this is the only video of Uttam Kumar's shooting as well....what a discovery...my salutes to you Sayantan
Yeah..that 29 minutes..I was so emotional thinking that we bengalis have lost so many things from our culture. And there must not be any film school ever existed in the world to direct films like he did..Thank you..
Thank you very much, Sayantan Dutta! This is an important documentary. RUclips recommended me this morning, and I must say its a beautiful start of my weekend.
Thanks Mr. Dutta for bringing such a candid documentary made on Ray before us. Several people (Subrata Mitra, Bangshi Chandragupta, Karuna Banerjee among others) speaking about Ray's work and their perception coming out, whom we have possibly never heard in any interview, they are quite eloquent. Wish my father could have seen this documentary, he would have appreciated it greatly had he been alive; a cinema fanatic from the seventies.
The unmatched intellect, poise and quality of words used in those days. I'm sure I'm born in the wrong generation. This is gem ✌️
Read good Literature. Think deeply. Live in solitude. Spirituality and Intuition. Be the change you want to see.

Lovely, also, to see Kolkata of the 1960s!
Brings tears in my eyes whenever I watch these interviews of him and become aware all over again how remarkable he was.
thank you for this, Ray and Calcutta are eternal

Karuna Banerjee is my most favourite actress. Hearing her was a delight.
His interview itself is a cinema, what a legend

no words...a craftsman....there are no words to describe satyajit ray....just emotion...
One of those rare occassions where you get to see Subrata Mitra talk on camera.
Wow.. what I have seen.. Being a "Satyaneshi" I never saw this video. A million thanks to you Mr. Sayantan..
Omg this God ..I could hear him talk all day ..what a genius

Congrats for Excellent Interview with Oscar Awardee & Genius Film Director,Producer & Artist #SatyajitRoy !
Ray was not just a cinematographer. He was a filmmaker. There's a difference between the two.

Just one anguish - 'The Alien' never got filmed .
Well, it got. But stolen by Spielberg, named 'E.T.'
