I read the story, Devi, a long time ago. This story was in our higher secondary textbook. But now I come to know that Satyajit Ray made a film on this story.
It's fascinating how he is explaining everything. When he mentioned about the "unsophisticated audience" it actually means the intellect and taste of audiences not the lifestyle. Well watching Hollywood movies does not mean it's a sophisticated thing. Movie making is an art. That is not easy to do. Though I don't directly blame audiences for their engagement in commercial movies. It's a another debate. But yes I observed people looking for those commercial movies rather than investing their time to understand what is movie itself. The development of the characters, the movement of the scenes, the film score, the script and the story itself is so important. Most of all the philosophy behind it. The grammar of film making and so on. Lastly this interview had a reference of "12 angry men". I loved how he interpreted the scene. The way it broke the still ness by bringing a change. It just shows how enriched they are in terms of knowledge and intellectualism. Thanks for the video

Extraordinary personality! Amazing talent.
What a superb voice, super personality of satyajit ray the legendary director.
He is one and only outstandingg Director in worlf so far i have seen, i am quite proud he was a Bengali, his creation is unbeleavable, a great man its painful we lost him before time,
When he said we have a fairly stupid audience back in 1989 he was and is absolutely right
