    Been on hrt for two years post menapause, had low testosterone , given compounded testosterone, after 4 months on testosterone, retested , barely raised testosterone and started having bleeds every month for 5 days like , exactly like periods.
    Was taken off testosterone as doc felt the testosterone was pretty much just converting to estrogen adding to what I’m already taking with estradiol patch, also on 200 prometrium. What in the world!?

    I've been begging my provider to prescribe Testosterone to me. After all of my research, I'm aware of the benefits of Testosterone and how this hormone can take my menopausal experience to a better, balanced place.
    But because my Free Testosterone blood work came back at 4.2 within the rage of 4-50, she's concerned that prescribing it to me would put her on some kind of radar police and could jeopardize her credibility.
    And so ... I'm being asked to stay on Estradiol and Progesterone solely for another month and then she wants to do another round of blood work.
    I'm not interested in finding another provider. Mine is compassionate and understanding and ... a little guarded.
    I would simply like to experiment with Testosterone and be able to take responsibility for that. I wouldn't even mind signing a waver if I have to. Sheesh!!!

    Is there a normal free testosterone range that is common for women? I can't remember my wife's total testosterone, but her free test is 1.7 ng/dl. She's 36 years old. It was on the low end of the range on the paper, almost out of the range. She hasn't had a sex drive for years and we are trying to figure it out. Didn't know if this was the culprit.

      @SAUDI345 I haven't found much else out about the free test, but I was told by a friend of mine, whose brother runs a TRT clinic that they do treat women and low test is absolutely a thing for women and not healthy.
      Also another friend of mine who is a female was just prescribed testosterone. She said she loves it. And it pretty much fixed everything she had.

    I have been on BHRT since October last year. I felt incredible usuing compounded cream E and T and p orally. Now in May, my blood work came back with lower freeT and Lower E. What the heck could have happened other than I had a bad cold in April. This round doc did not test for SHGH

    • @SimpleHormones
      @SimpleHormones  Год назад +1

      There could be lots of reasons for reduced blood levels. Possibly a different timing of your cream dose and the blood test? Possibly a change in your SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin)? Possibly a change in the amount of hormones your body is making, since you may still be making small amounts?

      FT should be the highest, then E then P. Your low E might be the reason for insomnia. And yes, if you are on thy meds, you could def have higher thy levels which would cause insomnia (had to get off my thy meds due to insomnia). E and thy have to be in an ideal balance w/ each other. If E is too low compared to thy levels, you essentially become “hyperthyroid” which causes insomnia.

    • @SimpleHormones
      @SimpleHormones  Год назад +2

      That may be a little bit of a high testosterone level. However, there are several other lab values that need to be looked at in the overall context of PCOS. That would include things like SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) which tends to make testosterone less available, progesterone, thyroid, and fasting insulin levels. This is why it's important to see a specialist who really knows what to do with all the hormones in PCOS.

    I would like to learn more about SHBG. Is it at a (relatively) stable level, what determines the level, and is it ever something that’s treated, say, when it’s high and binds up too much of the sex hormones? What would the treatment in that case be?

    • @gen-X-trader
      @gen-X-trader Год назад +2

      insulin has a major impact on shbg, it's also somewhat genetic. there is such a thing as too low and too high shbg. high shbg is easier to treat than low actually. add carbs to the diet OR use androgens. both drive it down. for example a low shbg person may use daily shots or cream but high shbg often do better on larger doses once a week as that androgen hit drives the shbg down. people on keto diets typically have REALLY high shbg due to the extremely low insulin levels in the body
