Janick's been one of my favorite guitarists for ages. It's really cool to see what he was doing before Maiden. Also, it's highly amusing to know that he's always been doing that Richie Blackmore/Rory Gallagher showmanship. Great band!
Very interesting! I was right down at the front for this performance at Reading - I was looking for the back of my head - albeit with more hair and no grey! Actually I thought the band gave a stand out performance and I thought I would hear more from them in the future but for whatever reason that did not happen. Janick Gers was indeed excellent and had a black stratocaster as you see here. Many of the morning bands at Reading were deeply average back then but this lot were a cut above - a shame they were not to endure. (I realise the audio is studio!).
Used to see these guys at the Boilermakers in Sunderland. A lot of the local groups would show up to watch. I knew a few of the guitarists at the time and none liked Yanik, said he was fake and showy. I guess he’s in Iron Maiden and their in the local supping beer 🍺 reminiscing. Their encore was usually Judas Priests “The Ripper” using a strobe light and the house lights turned off. Great show, miss those Friday night rock nights.
@SabuPtolemy what the fuck r u on about!!?? he's amazing with maiden, god knows where they would be if he hadn't stepped in when adrian left the band and he's still with them today so he must still be needed or they would have just kicked him out! christ... UP THE IRONS!!!
In Iron Maiden makes the other two look like the kind of jaded aging metal fans that used to stand at the back of pub gigs with carrier bags full of vinyl albums morosely sipping pint after pint. There are three people in that band worth turning up to watch, the singer the bass player and Mr Gers. Fair enough, the other two can play, but you can't get a bus ticket between all three of them in that respect anyway.
The most underrated "NWOBHM" band ever......
MR Janick Gers, born to play, the king of stage !
saw white spirit suporting Gillan, also on the line up were budgie and tigers of pan tang, class
hahaha it's so good seeing Janick Gers playing before him coming to Iron Maiden
Three months after that the entire band were in my Mam and Dad's house until about 4am as it was my 21st birthday!
Haha.. I was just to the left of the keyboard player at the front. Twas a great festival, Pat Travers, Slade, Whitesnake.....great days.

Martine Mouth-Breaker he absolutely sucks.!
great stuff, thanks.janick was a star even back then.
1:06 sounds like "Man on the Edge."
Roger B yep, Janick wrote the music for Man On The Edge while Blaze wrote the lyrics
That looks like Graeme Crallan drumming - cool! I used to knock around with him later, during his time with Panama. Nice to remember him…

UP THE IRONS!!!
Saw these guys at the Golden Eagle Hotel in Thornaby sometime in the late 70s, they were epic.
Their only album is terrific and on a par with Iron Maiden's debut album as the best of all the NWOBHM albums.
Great band ..............RIP Crash!
Excellent memories. Thanks for uploading this Bruce.

Ritchie Blackmore was Jan's guitar hero of all time!

Great stuff, im sure they were rumoured to have sacked their singer because he got too fat for his stage clothes.

That's what they printed in sounds or Kerrang . Mind you Bruce , I think I'd best take your word for it ! Great vocals by the way.
