I happened to notice all of the shiny new rock ballast dropped along the tracks, observed from traveling east on NH Route 101, across the Souhegan River in Wilton, NH. This upgrade appears quite necessary, a benefit from the sale of PanAm Railways to the CSX Railroad!

God I lived near the Lawrence MA B and M freight yard we spent hours and hours watching the trains when we were kids….we would go sit in the gatehouse with Ralph the gateman and he would tell us all the old time stories….now it’s pretty much gone sadly

I wonder why they still even bother to use this line. Wilton-Scenic Railroad was the last to use that branch frequently. They sold the Budd Cars after the owner died. Shortly before the owner died, I think they did some maintenance on the tracks beyond Greenfield, making it serviceable again, from there WSRR was going to operate those lines beyond Greenfield. But that never happened because the owner died. I know the deceased owner's of WSRR son, he still has the ticket booth in his yard. I think Milford-Bennington Railroad should invest in some coaches and start doing excursions it would be in the long run more profitable then that granite he always haul. I spoke to the owner of MBRR a few years back and he was considering that. Sadly that never happened either. He owns another SW on that line but it's not in service. I don't know what that engine is still doing there, it's not in half bad condition. It's to bad that one day those tracks will probably be ripped to make a biking trail. That can be avoided if the owner of MBRR invests in coaches and start up a scenic railroad business along with the freight service. It would be very profitable especially if he could get that out of service SW repaired.

The state sort of killed the idea of the Scenic railroad but the MBRX and the town of Wilton are still considering it! Idealy RDCs similar to the WSRR would be a good fit for an operation like this.

@@newhampshirerailfan Oh wow no kidding? I get that, but the problem is that they can't much passengers. I kinda get why they would do that because Wilton doesn't have a yard or a siding really. However that area by the old mill building is a good area for building a siding, and a few coaches. Or they could use the area where MBRX stops.

The state need to invest in commuter rail. This could be a good branch. Its costed 811 million to widen i93 if we became a more railroad centric place we could stop woth road construction. Logistically are population centers couldnt be any better suited to a commuter system.

Shortly after the WSRR's owner passed away (Mr. Stuart Draper of Draper Energy) I walked the tracks so see how far the track gang made it. Work stopped around 1/4 mile north/west of Muzzey Hill Road. They never quite made it to the Old Bennington Road (site of the South Bennington Station).
I purchased myself two tours on the WSRR back then. First trip, we were unable to proceed any further than up to the Greenfield Depot. Second trip, we made it up to as far as the property owner/resident's pond in the yard at Muzzey Hill Road.
