Hey there! Here is the batteries buyers guide. It looks simple but has taken a fair amount of time to make and I am updating and adding to it all the time. I just started adding the recommended settings so they are easy to find and will add it for all of them soon. allaboutrvsinfo.com/rv-battery-buyers-guide/ Here is a link to the battery. Epoch 460 AH full features. bit.ly/3KMZ52U Essentials 460AH. bit.ly/3Z1NAgi
We've had this battery in our RV for almost a year now. It is great, we can run an A/C unit plus the microwave or toaster oven while at a rest area so we can grab some lunch while hanging out with the dogs in the RV on a summer day. Works amazing! We also have 875W of solar to help out. 🐾🐾
I've had the 460ah Essentials for a few months now in my small class C. It fits in the usual spot under the stairs. I love it! The app works flawless. If i had the extra space, i'd get another one!
I bought two of these 460s with the communications. Putting into a Class A with a Victron Quattro 3000 2x120. It has taken a while but I love them!! Also I set mine at 13.9 absorption and 13.5 float.
I am running 2 of these batteries with a Victron Multiplus 2 system in my GD Reflection 5th wheel. It runs the AC for hours! The tech support says to set absorption at 13.9 and float at 13.4. If you go above that for absorption, it will go into charge shut down. That is not a problem, but we’ll keep your battery from balancing.
@@Foxfried I am a retired engineer with a BS in electronic engineering. I had already run across these issues and contacted Epoch tech support. They recommended the settings that I had already come to from my testing. Two months of cycling and testing and no problems. Just keep the absorption voltage below the point when the charging MOSFET’s turn off (charge protect) so the cells balance. I expect that these batteries will be good for as long as any of the other batteries.
The victron data cable gives information directly from the battery's bms, so it gets individual cell info and what not vs the shunt is basic current and voltage. Great information though! I'm getting one myself
Thanks again for the great information on batteries . I really appreciate all the info you give on Rving. Pray all is well with you and your family. Ps safe travels
Wow Jared. Nice information you’ve shared with us. 3 years ago I bought four Ampere Time 200 amp hr batteries for nearly the same price as two of these Epoc 460s would be. But wow! Have these babies got features - holly smokes. Although the Ampere Time (now called LiTime) have been flawless in our full time RV living (with lots of boondocking) should I need new batteries today, I’d definitely look at these babies you introduced today. Thank you for you battery buying guide. It along with Will’s guide is awesome stuff for everyone.
Thanks for doing this review. I recently bought the Epoch Batteries 12V 105Ah - Group 24 - Heated & Bluetooth LiFePO4 Battery for my Casita Trailer and love it. Had I had the space your RV has I would have gone bigger.
Excellent video and information. I’ve got 2-100AH BattleBorn in my present motorhome, but after watching your videos , it’s definitely time to upgrade and the information you provided is fantastic. These are a great alternative to. Thank you
Thanks for pointing out the different bulk charge voltages that their batteries require. I didn’t see that when I was considering two 300ah essentials. My soar controller has charge profile options that are 14.4v. Just a tad higher than their recommended 14.2…
I recently had two of their 300Ah batteries installed in my van. Only issue is BT comms is spotty inside the van but perhaps just because of chassis floor. I think you can also turn control incoming and outgoing power via the app.
I just replaced 2 Renogy 200ah batteries with one Epoch Essentials 460ah. My battery came with a data sheet that shows 14.2v for Float. I see you have it at 13.8v. When I received the battery I charged it to 100% and installed it in my Class A motorhome. I turned on the Magnum MS-2012 Inverter and ran my 110v Whirlpool 3-door residential fridge for 30 hours solely off of the battery. After 30 hours it was at 40% SOC which is great. By the way one of my Renogy batteries failed after 2.5 years and they refunded the purchase price. Buying the Epoch was on $200 more for more than twice the amp hours.
Panbo said not to run communications on this battery because of the 13.8 issue. Also balancing is going to become a big problem with this battery in the long run according to Panbo's article.
I bought one of these in the "essentials" model in May of this year. Shipping was fast so no problems with that. When it comes to service though, that is where it ended. Yes, even after watching hours of videos, we are total newbies regarding solar setups. But when I emailed Epoch with what should have been a simple question I got zero response. NOTHING. I emailed 3 times. I looked on their website for who knows how long for an answer, but there were no instructions at all for the "essential" model, only for the upgraded model, with the on/off button. I went to their RV Facebook page for "instant answers" and posted several times there. A few other RV owners tried to help, but still, NOTHING from Epoch. This made me feel like they thought my questions were either too stupid to answer or they didn't care to bother themselves. Some said to call, but I wanted answers in writing. I can't say too much about the battery itself. I haven't used it enough yet. Hopefully, we won't have problems because it is obvious that I can't expect any service from Epoch. This may be a great battery (only time will tell) but we will never buy from them again.
What issues do you have to deal with adding batteries in parallel with other brand batteries or different wattage ratings or is this not recommended? Secondly, have you come to a decision on an alternator charging setup to charge the batteries while driving yet? Can't wait to see that video Jared.
I’d like to see what all that weight added in the front storage does to the pin weight loaded onto your truck. Have you weighed and showed that? I just bought two redodo 12v 280, and am considering placing those under the bed, as I am just starting building out my solar system piecemeal. I have 1 320w panel, no inverter yet. Thanks for these, very helpful.
Nice battery but the full charge voltage issues make it a big pain in the butt for many and make Victron coms basically unusable unless you lower the dvcc to 13.8. Also they charge an arm and leg for shipping and taxes so its a $2000.00 battery eve with coupons. Too bad you never reviewed the sunfunkits batteries their integration works perfect no warnings or charging issues.
I'm curious about the lower voltage. I have a older lead acid system and I have been planning on slowly changing all the parts to lithium capable with the batteries being the last. I heard that the batteries are the trick due to the higher voltage, but with this lower voltage battery I'm curious if this could drop into a lead acid system?
I saw one of your things I believe that you were going to get a house now and I haven’t heard whether you did get a house are you still traveling or you done with that
Great info. I have a couple of Epoch batteries and they are doing awesome. I have a question, is it possible to also connect your Gamechanger battery in your system? Can you mix batteries if you connect them separately to your Lynx distributor? I have been shopping for another RV and found one that has a large battery bank of a different manufacturer. I was wondering if I could increase the battery bank by adding in my Epoch batteries.
I have seen people mix batteries but it’s not usually recommended. The problem you might run into is the battle born usually will like a bit higher voltage charge profile than these will. So you might run into problems there.
If you can set the battery to pylon communications the victron system should be able to communicate with it like most batteries and inverters can communicate with pylon and I know victron can read pylon but most other systems dont like to communicate with victron protocol. I know that is clear as mud, its an all tequilas are mezcals but not all mezcals are tequila kind of thing or Portuguese and Spanish.
I am curious what kind of cells these use and where they are sourced. I watched the deep dive battery stress test Morton’s on the Move did and it made me think Battle Born are really the best in quality even if they are expensive. I would like to know where this one fits into the quality tiers from the cheap pouch cells to the prismatic and then cylindrical cell designs.
@@jlokanis their (Epoch) parent company is RoyPow and both are careful about their cell purchase and quality used. The budget line below Epoch is PowerUrus and even they use quality cells for their products cutting costs in other places. Any of the RoyPow. Epoch, or PowerUrus products are going to be a good buy if Cell Quality is what you are looking for. Will Prowse cuts them all open and shows the quality in different YT videos if you’d like to see their innards.
The terminal lug looks too small to carry heavy loads. Battery Born has hefty lugs without overheating. I also don't see UL certication which is very important imo.
Amazon chinese batteries have been ruling the RV market for the last few years. No ones buying these things anymore, ive even seen brand new boats rocking powerqueen lifep04 batteries
Because people just see a brick that stores juice and do not understand the differences in terms of production quality, safety, environmental impact, or human rights of the workers in the production line.
@@loganl7547to bad they all come from the same place! There are only a handful of battery factories and they produce all the batteries! So not one word of that is true!
@@rivertownrider7126 pretty sure Will has opened RoyPow, Epoch, and PowerUrus (all the same family) up in different videos already. If he hasn’t done this particular model then I’d just give him time I bet it’s in his future. Battleborn is a nice battery as well, not knocking them.
He has and really liked the battery. Gave it a great review. He has actually done a couple videos on it and it performed really well in his “stress” tests.
