Performance Notes
After making a handful of live appearances in embryonic form under the title “Wave That Flag” in 1973 “U.S. Blues” arrived fully formed in the Grateful Dead repertoire early the following year, and quickly became one of the band’s most crowd-pleasing rockers. It was the opening track on 1974’s Grateful Dead From The Mars Hotel and was further immortalized later that year when it was filmed at Winterland in San Francisco, to be released in 1977 as the first song coming out of the brilliant animation sequence that began The Grateful Dead Movie. The lyric, a prime example of Robert Hunter’s sharp wit, entertainingly juggles patriotism with suspicion - not unjustified by history - that Uncle Sam’s a bit of a con artist.

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.
Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.
U.S. Blues ,Sadly, is the last song I heard and Saw Jerry Garcia sing in The Old Boston Gahden in the Fall of 94. God Bless You Jerry. 🙏
He was young (so was I) when he passed. He always seemed so old to us. I'm older than him now. Take care of yourself. Say NO to drugs and alcohol more often than saying YES.
I was there
@@willywhit Stay active ! Take care of your health.
I have to agree no drugs they kill a lot of people !
Awesome! Looks like an incredibly good time was had by all! ❣❤🔥❤🔥
I guess it's good for those who never saw them with Garcia. I would miss his guitar that was different, unlike anybody else, taking the crowd floating away high like a balloon. You had to be there. The Skeletons in The Closet Greatest Hits is a good collection. Would be nice to add Touch Of Grey and Good Lovin' to it, and US Blues. There is great video footage of those days. The crowd wasn't pretending to be hippies. It was A Happening. My friends were far out there by the Owsley Acid in the crowd even in 1980's, but I stuck with the good pot which was plenty high enough . As Fritz The Cat said, Good Times. I never really appreciated The Dead until being at a concert, and then I saw how the music fit the crowd. I worked, so I was not giving rides to the next State they played. However one needs at least 3 days off work to get there early, and to get home and recover from the Party. A motel or tent needed so not driving after at night after the HIGH TIMES. ...Turn off the car AC in Woodstock traffic jam to concert, car over heating will ruin your concert trip. Better you over heat than blow your engine. ...There is 1986 4th of July Buffalo Farm Aid RUclips footage of Dylan & Petty teaming up at a Dead concert, and you get the feel of the crowd in those. Also The Grateful Dead Movie....i also liked an early 90's concert with Traffic reunion tour, and Dead played a lot of Beatles starting with The Rain Song. ...Dead and Company, COME HEAR UNCLE JOHNS BAND, come to take his children home.....but Garcia on stage going into an hour guitar solo drifting into the night, that has to be just a memory, nobody can play that.
How do you have a song called liberty but you force your fans to have a covid jab in order to come to a concert! Wake up zombies!!!
This is so sad. They're quite bad, yet the "nostalgia" keeps these dinosaurs & the mindless idiots coming back. The shows they did when they 1st came back after Garcia's death were decent. But ever since about 15 years ago, they have become an annual embarrassment. They weren't necessarily the "tour from hell" but they sure come close to sounding like it.
They are quite bad to say at best.
Kevin u r so on it , I think I might b one of the older hippies still enjoying in the music but sadly miss my Jerry !❤️🐰🌹🐇❤️🔥💥☄️☠️💀🪐👽
There will never b another Jerry ! I love him after all these years in 1980 !
No 1 is trying to b Jerry just loving the music !
Crazy to think this weekend is their last concerts ever... :(
My god what happened to Bob Weirs, I just watched a video, where he looked clearly younger, did he go through some kind of time warp. He looks older than cat shit.

John Mayer just having the best time 😂
Amazing. The Dead have an inimitable talent for making the crowd one in joy. When I was at Wrigley in September we were talking about acid. Somebody said Bob was still kicking and he believed in that kind of culture. Although not in just those words. Indeed, on Friday i talked to a doctoral candidate seated right in front of me who was writing his thesis on therapeutic applications of psychedelics. It was really encouraging - and rare - that somebody was investigating these substances with a scientist's eye. .
Bobby does actually suck sometimes lmao
Sluggish😢pick it on up damn

Bobby's rhythm parts are just fading away. They used to be thrilling and unusual but now they aren't. It's not necessary because Mayer can do so much, but wow do I miss the unexpected, creative, and driving emphasis of Bob's unique approach. Here, he's just strumming along.
Haha bro isn’t he like 80? Give him a break lol
Part of the problem is that he's singing Jerry verses which means he's not focusing on his proper rhythm parts. He's also stated he doesn't like things to get to loud, hence he's playing more counter punctually these days.
He is 73 years old !
Or maybe a couple years older then me now that I saw his birth with a picture of his dad I think it was !?
It was a bit too slow
agree....and vocals are tough for me
slow? this is very good. you should have heard pits 2023. oteil was sitting on an amp it was so slow
