  • On Scotland Avenue, in an area that has been heavily divested over the years, Tevin Wayde is the owner of a building that he says is building back the block in the historic Scotlandville community. By buying properties and revitalizing them, he says he hopes to bring the community back to it’s former glory days.
    Author Jumata Emill went from reporting on crime and murders to writing a novel about it. His debut novel with Penguin Random House, The Black Queen, has everything you need to pull you in through the last page. From high school, girl drama to murder and lies, the novel touches on themes of race, legacy, and secrets as it follows the homecoming queen contest in a small, Louisiana town.
    Back in Scotlandville, Lighthouse Bar and Pizzeria is the latest eatery with “electric” vibes. Inspired by his former work as an electrician, owner Tevin Wayde says his goal was to bring a luxury speak easy style bar near the Southern University. He says what started as his love for making pizzas has turned into his latest business venture, offering the college campus a laid back spot for pizza and spirits.
    March is Women’s History Month, and the American Heart Association is reminding women to check on their hearts this time of year. Chef Traci and Jennifer Waguespack join us to discuss fun and delicious ways to stay heart healthy, even while snacking. The ladies also say a great way to get moving is to attend one of the biggest yearly events in downtown Baton Rouge, the 2023 Heart Walk.
