I wouldn't stress too much about having to revert the channel back man. It was your vids that pulled me in here in the first place and too be honestly seemed weird for it to be a group channel when it felt like more then 50% of the videos were coming from you anyway. TBH I doubt I'll even notice a difference
5:53 "with respect" Oh hell no they didn't. The English voice acting in Castle Shikigami 2 makes Resident Evil look like fucking Macbeth. It's a comedy goldmine, my favourites are the actor that literally reads out the stage directions like "changed voice" and doesn't even bother to change his voice.
That sounds pretty amazing! Did it ever get released over here on GameCube or XBOX? If it's not I guess I'll just have to finally sucker up and buy a PS2
Rhino 'n Chips meanwhile, XSeed made a pretty good localization of Castle Shikigami 3 with good voiceovers and a well written script with bits of humor
I guess back in the old days before anime was popular, game publishers felt like anime-style games wouldn't appeal to a Western audience, and so changed them in order to make them feel more 'American' in order to make people more likely to buy it. Just like how they changed the poster for the first Studio Ghibli movie, Nausicaa: Of the Valley of the Wind, and completely Amercanized it.
When I got my PS1, my father went to the game store for Christmas and asked the seller for a game recommendation. He said "my son likes Donkey Kong Country, can you recommend something similar?" Somehow, the seller gave him Monkey Magic. There was a Monkey in the game and it's a platformer.... the comparison ended there... BUT, in retrospect, I used to freaking love this game. I played it all the time and it became this weird obsession that nobody understood. I kept talking about like it's the 10th wonder of the world and hyping it like it's better than Super Mario. I didn't play it since 2010 or so, maybe I should give it another try to see if it aged well.
11:19 *I have been trying to figure out the name of this game for nineteen years.* All I remembered was what it looked like, and the intro. On a *_black and white television._* My god. I finally have closure. Thank you. The friend who had it was at the final boss and absolutely could not win. Look up the final boss. The other bosses take less than a minute to kill. The final boss takes ten minutes.
I'm sorry Arcadea didn't work out, man. The description just has the twitters though, and their twitters are still pointing to this channel rather than personal channels. I'd love to sub to the others as well
I'm glad you at least addressed in the best way and halted the patreon cos that would be unfair to many. So many bigger channels have mismanaged and made a mess of handling this sort of situation.
What a novel video! Before watching, Mega Man was probably the only game I knew about in this category. Also, I appreciate that two-frame monkey joke sixteen minutes in. I found it pretty funny.
Your youtube video on your youtube channel was funny. I loved how in your youtube video, you referenced in the video many other video games from other youtube videos. I will like this youtube video now.
I still think you're one of the best gaming RUclips personalities. Though I enjoyed the work everyone else put up, I came because I enjoyed your comedic styling. Keep up the good work, and props on the transparency with the situation.
I'm sad about Arcadea but I'm sure you guys can continue to make awesome content on your own. Awesome video today and I would really enjoy seeing some drum covers!
I remember one glorious day on the shmups.com forum, forever ago, shortly after the release of the Mobile Light Force games where a rep from XS games actually showed up and tried to tell a bunch of grouchy old men with piles of import Saturn and PC Engine shooters that they did not in fact do a shitty localisation of Gunbird but in fact had published a game just called "Mobile Light Force," based on nothing at all. Well, he kept saying "This is not Gunbird, it's Mobile Light Force" like a broken record, never elabourating, and you were left wondering why he felt the need to join the forum just to be really unconvincing.
Eternal eyes was quite the surprise... always saw the cover.. never thought it to be another trpg. Though i doubt i'd play it since i was spoiled to the amazing-ness of FFT. Also, i'm here for you! Subscribed for your content. Keep it up guy!
You're the first ever video game related channel I've seen discuss Monkey Magic. It was one of my and my sister's favorite games growing up, but it's also something we never beat. Might be interesting to go back to it now.
Sorry it didn't work out Austin, personally I enjoyed your content more than anybody else anyway. I think its pretty true for most of your subs that they came here while you were still solo so keep up the great work man awesome video
Eternal Eyes was one of my favorite games as a kid. I still have the copy, actually. I am obsessed with SRPGs and I like to think that Eternal Eyes is a small part of that. I'm glad you mentioned it!
Jam on man. Sorry that Arcadia didn't pan out. I know the feels about trying to include people you care about into a thing and it making it so much harder to make work. Glad you're still gonna stick with it though, you make content that I don't see come from anywhere else and you've def go the passion for it. Good ups to ya Austin and can't wait to see what ya got coming next.
I was drawn to this channel for all the obscure anime game goodness, so I'm here to stay. Looking forward to a Yakuza related video in the future :D Good luck with everything going forward. Also, I wouldn't mind drum covers as I used to play drums myself.
Monkey Magic seems like a fever dream to me, some mashup of a love letter to anime and someone desperately denying they like anime games. As for the channel update, while I'll miss the others being a part of this, I did originally find this channel from your content, so I have no intention of leaving. Keep being awesome.
I feel like I saw Monkey Magic on TV once as a very young child. I think it was on around the time DBZ was on before DBZ was picked up by Cartoon Network. Don't quote me on that.
Hey man I was just leaving a comment to let you know I really appreciate the respect which your videos are made with. And they're getting so much better without losing the tone of your early work. I'm a fan of your work sir and I'm just hoping to let you know. I loved this video but my favorites are definitely when you do individual reviews. Your presentation of games like Sparkster makes me remember why I love the games I grew up with. Good job on the awesome work. I don't miss any of it.
I was honestly going to make a joke about how weird that, despite being a channel of 5 guys, it really only seemed like there was 1 or 2 (3 at max). Regadless, I respect that you guys split so cleanly and without much of an issue.
Oh man, this is the first video of yours that I've seen, and it's incredible. I loved it. Had me laughing and it's legitimately good content. Real talk tho, using Phantasy Star Online sounds when you're adding images to the screen? That's why i'm here.
It's funny, when I booted up this video, I immediately had an inkling that there was a chance you'd mention Eternal Eyes. Did not disappoint. Found it in an EB games a long time ago. While looking back it's not amazing, I'm almost positive that my love for Disgaea spawned from that clunky nostalgia trip. I also really liked doing new game + and recruiting your sister. I should give it another run through sometime.
I once saw a real cheap eternal eyes copy and didnt buy it cus the hideous cover, but im sure I would have loved it if i bought it back then... freaking anime shaming localizing asses
Some of my fondest memories are with Eternal Eyes. Probably because it was my first tactics game and I had no idea what I was getting into but forwarded anyway. When I returned to it a year later, too, it got even better but in the wrong way. I still love it, but nothing quite makes me laugh like the memories of my friends and me doing deliberately bad voice acting to the terrible dialogue. It's a cute game, simple story, and I still have it on my shelf to stare at fondly and pretend I'll play it again some day.
The character designer for Monkey Magic (For both the game and the anime) is Japanese, and he's known for using a more western art style most of the time. Also, as weird as the game and anime may be, I kind of wanna see Monkey Magic get rebooted. It could have the same art style, but the animation could be better.
That's sad that you guys had to break up like that and it's nice to see you're not blaming anyone for anything. I subscribed a long while back and depending if the video catches my eye I'm not changing my viewing habits. :P Good luck to ya and your future. Oh, also. Things are hard for everyone right now. I can't even find work and a big problem with my ex-wife from years ago suddenly turned into a bigger problem and all I can say about it is never get married to a dramatic psycho who is willing to threaten to kill you and everyone you know, then act like you're the one who's crazy right after doing it. They are very difficult and can get people to give them loads of money by lying to them.. sorry.. been dealing with this a lot the past few days and somehow Me, the victim of domestic violence all those years ago is being treated like the bad guy and need to pay more money than I've made my whole life to live a normal life. *grrr*
Ok sooo...randomly found your channel and decided to just binge watch some content, you know was kind of debating subbing like eh he is pretty cool I guess. Then I heard that One Piece joke and BOY did I decide so fast XD Just the music playing and man that was great.
Thanks for mentioning Eternal Eyes and Lagoon. 2 very flawed games but still very enjoyable. Eternal Eyes was surprisingly fun, especially when, as a child and after playing pokemon, you wanted something similar. Lagoon was balls to the walls hard for a kid at that time. It's clunky, the story makes little to no sense and you get lost so much in the dungeons. Yet still, I love the game to this day.
i'm sorry about the change but you're very charming and you seem very nice. i hope everything works out for you and i'll remain subscribed ^^ also i think drum solos would be great! it's still fun~ i'll continue to look forward for your future!
I'd love to see Austin make a video about the Danganronpa series! V3 utterly blew me away with how great it was. Best one yet. And honestly I stuck with Arcadea for Austin's videos. Will continue to support your great content. :)
I looked up videos and it looked charming and similar to Harvest Moon, yeah. But more...limited. And not the same sort of game, quite. Apparently it didn't sell very well... I'm not sure if it's actually good, I'd have to play it for myself to find out. I might do that on one of my streams, thinking about it...
Don't worry dude, I'll still be sticking around here. When I first ran into your video on recommendations and watched it, I love it and sub your channel to watch more. I didn't even realize it was a group thing at first. Lol So even the change, I won't be leaving. :)
I'm extremely sad to see Arcadea go since it's the entire reason I subscribed. However, I can't say I'm not happy for you. I sincerely hope that Furst gives a lot more love to his channel now, though. He's an intellectual after my own godsdamn heart.
Thank you for saying Suikoden has an anime aesthetic. I've argued with too many morons who've tried to convince me otherwise because they think it tarnishes Suikoden's credibility or something.
Actually, I didn't really watch anything on Arcadea except for you and that kept me from subbing because I didn't want my sub box to be flooded with other videos when I was only really following one person. So uhh... Yeah now I'm subbing because it beats having to manually go to the Arcadea channel every couple weeks to see what Austin's been up to.
Oh, hey, I remember Monkey Magic. I'll admit I subscribed originally for the Star Trek TNG vid on "The Inner Light". I have enjoyed your content as well, but I'm curious where/if I'll be able to find that video again.
Dude i want you to know the whole reason i watched this is bc i recognized Monkey magic. I to this day don’t know many ppl who even know who this is. And it triggered a really good memory of a friends parent that passed not long ago. Great stuff 💪🏽.
Funny enough, if you look at the instruction manual for the Castle Shikigami 2 (good music pick, btw), it was originally going to be called "Mobile Light Force 3", but for whatever reason they changed it before release. ...I still really want to know what the heck happened to that to make the dub such a glorious trainwreck.
I had Monkey Magic. Played it until the that elevator made me stuck too. Even as a kid I thought it's weird and strangely fun if not a little barren. I have absolutely no clue what the story is about but I can still remember some of the levels vividly.
The last video I watched from this channel was the one announcing Arcadea, the first video back was this one announcing the dissolving of Arcadea... guess they all got buried in my feed. But, what are the odds?
oh my GOD the last game brought a blast from the past. i totally forgot I owned monkey magic as a kid until you showed that and I was like "why does that look extremely familiar?" lol I don't remember if it was a bootleg or a real copy though but I do remember it actually being pretty fun! Thanks for the unexpected nostalgia haha
Coming back to this, I was kinda surprised you didn't go over the ChoroQ series, as in video games based off of a line of little collectible caricature cars that's popular in Japan. Granted they released ChoroQ for the PS2 with unabashedly Japanese boxart for the American release, there was a spin-off tank game released called Seek & Destroy, with fucking full-sized tanks waving the goddamn American flag in the boxart (shit makes me hard), totally negating the anime-esque gameplay, graphics, storyline, and chibi tanks.
Man, I can't remember how many times I rented Monkey Magic as a kid. One of those really obscure ones that you half remember years later and ask yourself "Man, what was that game called again?" Do not remember getting very far in it though.
I was wondering why it changed from Arcadea to just Austin, when I was looking at my subbox. I found this channel earlier this year and I subbed for Austin and started to marathon his videos. I watched like 1 or 2 of some of the others but I was only here for Austin. It's a shame but, nothing really changes for me.
I remember buying Superstar Dance Club for the PS1, and it had cheap-looking western style cartoon girls on the cover. To my surprise, it was a Japanese style puzzle game. NOT ONLY THAT, but I was bored one day and was looking around in the files on the disc of said game. One files that stood out was called "DAMMY". Turns out, it was a junk dummy file, but one that was a textless opening to Revolutionary Girl Utena if you add .avi to the end of the file.
Monkey Magic was one of my first PS1 game. I loved it as a kid, but found it creepy for some reason. I loved the "MONKEY" line that was said constantly.
I agree 100% with your opinion on Eternal Eyes. As someone who picked it up for less than two dollars I definitely got my moneys worth. But it did not really stick with me. I actually just cleaned up my game collection to make it look more presentable, two weeks ago or so, and of course it was still there. And even after rearranging the collection, I completely forgot about it until this review. Definitely worth two dollars, but no more than five.
I watched Monkey magic! It was an anime but it was put in syndication. And the Journey to the west part doesn't come until much later with the anime's first part focusing on Wukong's origins, rampage against the gods, and his defeat and imprisonment at the hands of Buddha. Also the show got canned midway after one season so there was no resolution. Also the lives and magic stuff is a plot point since in both the anime and legend Wukong eats several maguffins that make him technically immortal and if the game follows the events of the anime and i'm guessing it does since the big blue is Buddha the developers had to do that due to the plot.
I've seen some episodes of Monkey Magic, it was kind of awesome. You're cheating yourself, man. Also it was seeing Kongo in the thumbnail that drew me to this video in the first place.
Gunbird did get a proper English release in PAL for the PS2 as "Gunbird Special Edition". Has Gunbird 1 and 2. and I recall it still having the cutscenes and such.
17:30 Yes, that's the guy who played Duo. Oh man, I wonder what things Scott McNeil has to say on Monkey Magic? More to the point, did he play enough characters for it to be called a "Scott show?"
As a kid, I only every saw the episode where he bet god to race to the edge of the universe on his cloud. It just kept playing that one episode and I didn't really see any others.
I wouldn't stress too much about having to revert the channel back man. It was your vids that pulled me in here in the first place and too be honestly seemed weird for it to be a group channel when it felt like more then 50% of the videos were coming from you anyway. TBH I doubt I'll even notice a difference
We just gonna ignore the fact, that the robot in Mobile Light Force was named MILF 2000? XD
I came here for Boku no Eruption so i will stay good sir
Other people besides Austin were making things for arcadea...?
MrCaravaggio surprisingly
"I found the One Piece!"
I call shenanigans, it didn't take you 800+ episodes to do so.
5:53 "with respect"
Oh hell no they didn't. The English voice acting in Castle Shikigami 2 makes Resident Evil look like fucking Macbeth. It's a comedy goldmine, my favourites are the actor that literally reads out the stage directions like "changed voice" and doesn't even bother to change his voice.
Rhino 'n Chips “I like girls, but now it’s time for justice”
That sounds pretty amazing! Did it ever get released over here on GameCube or XBOX? If it's not I guess I'll just have to finally sucker up and buy a PS2
Rhino 'n Chips Well nothing (and I mean nothing) beats Chaos Wars dub. That makes Castle Shikigami 2 dub leagues better.
Rhino 'n Chips meanwhile, XSeed made a pretty good localization of Castle Shikigami 3 with good voiceovers and a well written script with bits of humor
Finally someone else that understands the travesty that is the castle Chicagami two dub it makes. Four kids look like a decent company

Somehow, the seller gave him Monkey Magic.
11:19 *I have been trying to figure out the name of this game for nineteen years.*
All I remembered was what it looked like, and the intro. On a *_black and white television._* My god. I finally have closure. Thank you.
The friend who had it was at the final boss and absolutely could not win. Look up the final boss. The other bosses take less than a minute to kill. The final boss takes ten minutes.
That cover art looks horrendous! Why would they do something to Suikoden!?
I'm sorry Arcadea didn't work out, man. The description just has the twitters though, and their twitters are still pointing to this channel rather than personal channels. I'd love to sub to the others as well
+Kevin Thompson I will fix this asap, my apologies!
I'm glad you at least addressed in the best way and halted the patreon cos that would be unfair to many.
So many bigger channels have mismanaged and made a mess of handling this sort of situation.
I remember I was so confused when I booted up MLB Power Pros, expecting another generic sports game. Instead I got a super cartoony dating sim.

Not sure if this was answered but yes...yes that was Duo Maxwell (Scott McNeill with his unmistakable voice) .
Subscribed for Monkey Magic. I thought I'd never run into this nugget of childhood again.

Lagoon looks like less of a Zelda clone and more of a Hydlide clone.
Dude, I was here for your videos, and anything anime! I’m always up for more anime videos, and games!
You sir just got a new subscriber, I've been thoroughly enjoying your vids.
Hey man, new to your channel but I gotta say... I love all the PSO sound effects you use. Keep it up!

Yes do drum covers on this channel! I always look forward to those so it would be cool to see them here.
Holy shit a Monkey Magic video exists. I found it for $3 at Goodwill and have hoped someone had made a video on it

It's been too long eruptipoo, I've missed you so much senpai!
Lagoon is a very, very, game.
Always glad to see someone using Suikoden music and references.
"Hot swimming dad" thats just buff quasimodo man
Dude I'm totally subscribed for you everybody else was just a bonus
Son if Ys is not anywhere in this video besides the music you used (great music choice btw ) Then I Will Be So Flamed
You always have the best merch in your room.
Arcadea will always be in our hearts.
I'll stay subbed, but that means more people to sub to and that's alright.
Loving the Ys 8 music! Have you ever considered covering any Falcom games or have you already and I've just missed it/forgot about it?
I've seen some episodes of Monkey Magic, it was kind of awesome. You're cheating yourself, man. Also it was seeing Kongo in the thumbnail that drew me to this video in the first place.
This was a GREAT idea for a video. Good job. :D
I want to see a PJ DiCesare speedrun of Eternal eyes! His Lagoon run is hilarious :D
Gunbird did get a proper English release in PAL for the PS2 as "Gunbird Special Edition". Has Gunbird 1 and 2. and I recall it still having the cutscenes and such.
Hey my dude, bad news for them good for you, I was subscribed just for you!
17:30 Yes, that's the guy who played Duo. Oh man, I wonder what things Scott McNeil has to say on Monkey Magic? More to the point, did he play enough characters for it to be called a "Scott show?"
Actually yeah...
I came here for you too, so no worries there. I will support the others too. Is everything okay between you guys? Cheers, Austin!
As a kid, I only every saw the episode where he bet god to race to the edge of the universe on his cloud. It just kept playing that one episode and I didn't really see any others.
I see austin
