rick turned himself into a pickle to get himself out of a pickle (family therapy) but ended up in another pickle (russian embassy) but managed to escape that pickle only to end up in the original pickle he wanted to avoid... as a pickle.
When Pickle Rick is laying out in the sun and is about to die from no moisture it could be a reference to the Spongebob movie when Spongebob and Patrick are about to die from a lamp's heat.
I thought it was a reference to the alternate reality tv channel, as the creators said Doofus Rick doesn't actually do that-- it's a rumor started by the other Ricks to further belittle him.
I thought this to when I first saw that scene but rick did save the world and he is famous among all galaxies and universes so I guess he looked into it and found out about rick? He is JAGUAR too
When Rick patches his wound, it's actually somewhat accurate. He gets cellulose from the tomato juice and vinegar from the mustard while patching it w a pickle which would essentially be a skin graft.
Pickle is a reference to the expression "to be in a pickle". It's literally a metaphor explaining how Rick's crazy impulsive invention actually went awry and explores the consequences that it can incurr. Not only did he turn his body in a pickle, but he was in a literal pickle during the entire episode. I love that so much :)
The scene of Pickle Rick drying out in the sun on the driveway reminds me of the first Spongebob movie with Spongebob and Patrick getting turned into sundries in Shell City.
I feel like Rick did get a little something out of the very brief therapy he had. He got called out on a few key points and while yes for the most part it didn't stick he did apologize to his daughter and say that he should have just told her the truth and said they should get drinks. They seemed to be bonding while ignoring the kids also. Now I'm not saying that's a healthy thing to do but he did become a little closer to his daughter and probably help alleviate a minute amount of the psychological trauma Beth has over Rick leaving.
I think it'd be great if Summer and Morty take Dr. Wong's advice since they genuinely got something out of therapy. I hope it helps them to grow and change when Beth and Rick won't, bringing the siblings closer together and maybe in their own ways, helping Beth and Rick eventually grow too.
they're not real people. the way their characters are entertains the fans, so why would they change it now? It's strange to want that over entertainment when they are not only fictional characters, but fictional characters in a cartoon
...but they have grown and changed already. I'm not talking major changes, like all of a sudden Summer and Morty are besties, but subtle ones, like a shared look when they pick up that Rick or Beth are behaving exactly as Dr. Wong pointed out. It's not realism over entertainment, but an element of that realism to add to the characterization to balance out the wackiness.
fenrirdies haha i agree he is a beautiful cynical bastard xD and I don't know why these people think I'm not interested in character development, just not the kind they're asking for O.o
My great grandfather died on the toilet. He asked my grandmother to help him get to the bathroom and after almost an hour they noticed that he hasn't come out. And there he was.
I think he took it to heart but only a little since he did seem more sincere when asking for the medicine to Beth. He didn't take the maintaining part seriously. Which I wish he did, but buried it deep in himself so we can maybe hear it in an outburst later about how it's still on his mind but he's rationalizing it away with something else. Much like the Jaguar scene
Hello, great video. However i have somethimg to add, remember how the syringe contraption was in clear view for anyone to see? Rick is a genius i think he could have hidden that well. And yea that might have been just something to further the plot but i think that was a cry for help, rick wanted the family to find and it and question him about him possibly help. Remember birdperson explaining ricks wierd sounds to morty or tiny rick asking for help not out straight because rick probably is not able to do that so he does it other ways like bird language or drawings, inconspicious ways, basicly he wants help. Just thought of this tell me what u think cuz i might be overthinking.
Pete Polk There are times when Rick breaks the fourth wall . Plus , Rick n Morty operates off of the idea of infinite universes with infinite possibility . Not likely tho cause Jerr-bear is a dumbass .
Pete Polk perhaps when the family learns to become independant they can do this. Beth may get this ability if she leaves the rest of her family at some point
Jimmy Powers I think he means by Jerry showing up aligned to the shows air schedule which is not a self conscious choice of Jerry himself as a character but of the writers so there isn't any fourth wall breaking going on at all
I think the showed the perfect amount in the promotional stuff. We got that awesome scene with the rats shown as a teaser a year ago and then the full animated version. We got nothing about Rick's Die Hard Adventure or even a hint of Jaguar, which is where the story was. It was brilliantly done
I think that Dr Wongs point was more that rick is responsible for his actions. Rick lives in his reality of infinite choices where other dimensional Ricks have done intimate amount if things. In this thinking Rick isn't really responsible for his actions since they're intimate outcomes to his actions so he isn't a consequensalist since they're no repercussions for these actions. But Dr Wong calls him out and says that's what he is scared of the most.. being in control of his own brain and his choices.
Happiness in an intelligent person is a rare thing. Substances help to numb the mind, "dumb" one down so that their brain stops running a million miles per hour.
It's interesting how Dr. Wong makes her speech about therapy being "work", especially since Beth views loving Jerry as exactly that, as seen in the Cronenberg episode. I think there might be a chance the therapy gets through to her, and she gets back with Jerry.
I think the reason rick said "and thats why youdont go to therapy" is because without being forced to fight against jaguar rick would have never seen the necessity for attending the therapy session.
"Morty stop digging for hidden layers and just be impressed" hints towards your kind of videos that zoom into these episodes. I love these videos so it's not a dig
I'd give more credit to that last scene between Beth and Rick. Obviously they are definitely ignoring Summer and Morty because they were both faced with some serious truth that they know they'll have to accept eventually but neither are willing to do so at all at the moment. That scene seemed to be a lot more of not knowing how to talk about what just happened and just seeing how Beth and Rick absorb it. All the same the really interesting thing that happened by the very end was a clear sign of a relationship between Beth and Rick that we have never seen before. And all that is very different from previous episodes that have gotten this profound and purposely ended with "we didn't learn anything" joke. We definitely learned something here, but the characters don't know how to handle that thus the uncomfortable silence. All the same, the slightest change in the way Rick interacts with his daughter I think says that he did take something away, and that's why I love Dr. Wong so much, because she dropped a truth Rick couldn't refute no matter how much he demeaned her professional position.
When pickle rick heals himself with the pickle slice, that actually a reference to a Sylvester stallone movie, where he has a gum wound in the SAME SPOT and puts gunpowder then burns it to cook his own meat at a healing method
He didn't turn himself into a pickle to challenge himself. He just said to convince them that there wasn't anything he could do to make it to the therapy appointment. The serum was set to turn him human again right after they left.
I'm not sure if the creators of Rick and Morty were trying to reference this, but the laser gun that Rick had may be a nod to the Spartan Laser from the halo series.
It's interesting that Rick said "I abandoned one *of my alternate* daughters..." So clearly that is not his original daughter, It's an alternate. Which means the world they destroyed wasn't C-137 and current Morty is also not from the same verse as Rick.
I think rick will stay the same until a dramatic change occurs in his family. Such as beth being so pointed out i think she's the first one to break, this season is based on ricks family
This season has DELIVERED on the hype so hard. I was expecting this to go back down to about season 1 quality (still really good, but season 2 and 3 are better besides Meeseeks and Destroy) after pickle rick and it certainly hasn't. Hope it continues to deliver
the dying on a toilet part isn't a reference to elvis/other historical figures. it's just a dumb way to die. therefore, the mega genius equivalent of dying on a toilet.
It says "Courage" on the way in her office for patients to feel brave enough to get help, and "Dedication" to motivate them to return and keep getting therapy. Both are about her getting paid (regularly). The pictures just play off her double practice/specialties.
I thought that the whole Salenya/pickleman thing that the Russians called Rick was a reference to John Wick, where the Russian mob calls John the Babayaga/boogeyman.
Actually the idea of rick being a pickle was just a random idea that Justin Roiland came up with during the writing of the episode. Like so people can see
So far I think that any of the past episodes written by men are funnier than the past two episodes written by women. I guess I thought this series was supposed to be a comedy, but after the first episode of the season it doesn't feel like it has really even tried to be funny, like at all. I was hoping for at least a masturbation joke after Morty's arm was enhanced in episode 2, but It never happened. I dunno, maybe the writer thought it was too obvious, but she was driven on writing Summer in as a bad ass that effortlessly showed up her brother who had far more experience travelling with Rick. Eating shit isn't funny either, it's just disgusting. I'm not saying episode 2 and 3 of this season were bad be any means, I just fear the creators may have made some quick PC hires instead of picking the funniest women writers, but maybe I will be pleasantly surprised by the next episode which is also written by a woman writer.
Did he take the advice? No, because Dr Wong may as well be a moron. Do I want rick to take the advice? No, because that wouldn't be the Rick I fell in love with
*the reason anyone would do this if they could, which they can't, is because they could, which they can't*
LegoMelonz15 probably my favorite line of this episode
April Martinez I also think the underrated not known line *IM PPPPIIIIICCCCKKKKLLLEEE RRRRRIIIIICCCCKKK* is a good line as well :)
LegoMelonz15 yeah, seems NOBODY heard that line. especially since thats all ive seen in the comments...
thats a reference to some animals like dogs cats and for example goats licking their own testicles because "they can"
Just because Morty wasn't hype about Pickle Rick doesn't mean the rest of the world can't be hype about Pickle Rick. Ya glip-glop.
rick turned himself into a pickle to get himself out of a pickle (family therapy) but ended up in another pickle (russian embassy) but managed to escape that pickle only to end up in the original pickle he wanted to avoid... as a pickle.
Russian?
Brilliant...

Brilliant!

When Pickle Rick is laying out in the sun and is about to die from no moisture it could be a reference to the Spongebob movie when Spongebob and Patrick are about to die from a lamp's heat.
Nah
That’s the biggest stretch I’ve ever read lol
Isn't the poop eating a reference to the Poop Eating Loser Rick, the only one that likes Jerry?
Dawson McCarthy dumb rick doesnt actually eat poop though, the people from the dimension he comes from however,do.
I thought it was a reference to the alternate reality tv channel, as the creators said Doofus Rick doesn't actually do that-- it's a rumor started by the other Ricks to further belittle him.
Dawson McCarthy, No. Just because something similar was mentioned doesn't mean they're related.
Damocles
Sleep on the couch tonight.
"dofus" rick was teased to be from a timeline where everyone eats poop, but was not clear if it was a fact or the other ricks disliking him
The piano scene happens in a different universe. How did jaguar get there? Perhaps he is now searching for a different version of his daughter.
Same universe different planet
How does Jagwire/Jaguar recognise Rick because Jagwire/jaguar only saw rick as a pickle
He probably was tracking rick.
To paraphrase the HISHE guys: "Because he's Jaguar!"
just cause
I thought this to when I first saw that scene but rick did save the world and he is famous among all galaxies and universes so I guess he looked into it and found out about rick? He is JAGUAR too
Probably there will be an episode dedicated to this
When Rick patches his wound, it's actually somewhat accurate. He gets cellulose from the tomato juice and vinegar from the mustard while patching it w a pickle which would essentially be a skin graft.
Inquisitive Cameron Too funny.
Inquisitive Cameron that is pretty smart
clearly that episode had a bunch of john wick references too.
Yeah, the Solenya lines were obviously a play on the Baba Yaga thing, sad to not hear it addressed specifically @NewRockstars
Pickle Wick!!!!!!
Yea, like when rick killed a bunch of guys with pencils.
No old boy
Miguel M Rambo 3 reference when Jaguar mends his wound
I like how Dr Wong totally owned him after he tried to discredit therapy.
And how can he is about rick

Erik is going to pull his shoulder from all that reaching!

Wasn't calling him "Solenya" in that episode a shout out to John Wick? When they call John "Baba Yaga".
John Wick didn't invent Baba Yaga
I say Rick took the advice, because when they got in the car first thing he did was apologized to Beath for trying to get out of therapy.
Did no one get that the gunpowder self healing and the mustard, tomato, pickle self healing was a Revenant reference?!?!
Rangi Sweetman I feel like I saw someone use this in like predator or terminator way back in the day.
The gunpowder healing was from Rambo. Part III I think but I'm not sure
Yeah it's definitely from Rambo.
Rangi Sweetman yea it is also in Revenant, glass used it on his shoulder
I feel like Rick did get a little something out of the very brief therapy he had. Catnip Ninja yes, I had similar thoughts while watching the episode! But will it be long term?
Ahhh c'mon... "Selenya" or however that is spelled is a clear reference to John Wick's Baba Yaga!
how.... HOW!?
I'm glad I'm not the only one that caught the John Wick references.
Baba Yaga is a 'real' thing. John Wick didn't invent it.
Its a Russian fairy tale - one of the villain type character :)
That's what i saw too...a group of thugs coming up with a name for an assassin that' sabout to kill them....sounds right to me
I think it'd be great if Summer and Morty take Dr. Wong's advice since they genuinely got something out of therapy. I hope it helps them to grow and change when Beth and Rick won't, bringing the siblings closer together and maybe in their own ways, helping Beth and Rick eventually grow too.

0xVENx0 oh shit delete this. The writers take continuity way too serious. If they notice that, they might make an entire episode explaining it.
I think that the therapy did stick even if maybe subconsciously. In season 4 Rick was the most sober he’s ever been
~Sending positive vibes~
Props on the pickle joke. Made me laugh!
I'm pickle riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccckkkkkkkkk

Pickle Rick memes aren't funny.
I didn't realize he used a pickle to patch his wound LOL love it
If it was spelled Jagwar would you have less trouble pronouncing it?
Peter Serafinowich is a brilliant impressionist. His Terry Wogan is eerily accurate...

It’s goldenfold xd

Im Australian i should know
To be in a pickle and To be pickled isn't the same thing. Just as "To be in a jam" and "To be jam" aren't the same.
Never expect an Australian to know anything

Riley Arndt more specifically it's being stuck in a difficult situation, and getting pickled is just being drunk
This was one of my favorite episodes. In fact, I’m going to rewatch it tonight! Pickle Rick!
it's not pronounced "Jag-WIRE" bruh
I'm from Jacksonville, bruh. We get to say it weird.
haha touche bruh
Rick pronounces it as Jag-Wire and like saying it that way too
Banana Fingerguns he also says concerto weird

Rick using the seatbelt is a great detail that you didn't mention. Great video anyway
