Thanks for having me at the shop. I'm still waking up in the middle of night from horrible ABC nightmares!
Nightmares bad.
The Wizard making a RUclips channel was the best idea ever. I watch him more than Hoovie these days honestly.
What’s your point or reason
@@welshrarebit9238 I think he means that car wizard has much more informative content than entertainment content
Hoovie seems to have cut back on videos the last year or so and the Wizard puts out twice as many so, yeah, I suppose you do watch more of his than Hoovie's.
I find myself skipping hoovie vidios anymore, but I never miss Car Wizard
Me too !
Alex is a RUclips legend .one of my favorite channels
I agree. He is cool. And into a cool topic (Mercedes & keeping them running.) all these people have associations with hoofy, & I can’t stand that.
I met him at a car show once, and yeah, super cool dude
I respect the hell out of Alex. Truly started with nothing. The dream is possible if you're willing to work. Really hard.
Alex has taught me a lot. If you ever read this Alex thank you
He's a good dude
Love Alex's reaction to kick starting the Citroen and watching the suspension go up and down.
Wizard´s suttle impression to Alex´s reaction is allso pricless. That is exactly what i had when i got to show Citroens party tricks to someone, who never seen anything that wild. :)
Yeah, can't wait for Wizard to fix up the DS and get to enjoy the car and showing the fantastic features of it. Hopefully Alex (and Tyler) get to ride in it then.
I have a feeling his biggest reaction was when he saw how easy the heater core was to service....
Yeah that was classic too. I think this might have been the smartest cat purchase Car Wizard has made. He got it cheap, found a Citroen guru who can get him parts and help him fix it and in great condition they are are worth a lot more than it cost him and investment in making it perfect. Average asking price seems to be around $50k. And it can't be bad in getting him channel views :)
Do you think placing the toilet bowl in front of the Citroen was intentional or just a happy coincidence?
I love the reactions of people who’ve never been exposed to Citroens before. So completely unconventional, utterly brilliant, and able to surprise knowledgeable car guys - and it’s 54 years old!
I heard of them before but never actually seen one aside from this video and yes they are very odd to me . Interesting car all the same
My late father had a Citroen DS Super 5 in the beginning of the 70's in Morocco.
Regarding Mercedes ABC problems - I bought my SL600 fully aware of potential ABC issues. I did a fluid flush/filter change when I bought it, but decided I wouldn't put another dime into that system if - make that when - it failed. I made it two years. Pump sprang a big leak. So I converted it to coilovers and added sway bars, very happy with the result. Sure, there's nothing like the ride of a properly working ABC system, but it's really nice to go out for a long drive and not even think about a suspension failure. The ride with coilovers is just what you'd expect from a sporty GT with a conventional suspension.
Hello from down under in Australia. I have watched the Wizard over the last few years working on American iron and expensive European cars that we rarely see down here.
Today's episode is strange in that I have a 1965 Mini Coopers S with "hydrolastic" fluid suspension; like the Citroen and Merc, but without the power pumps. The front fluid "bags" are connected with pipes to the same side back "bag". This allows a "softness" when the front or rear wheel goes over a bump but no sideways lean at all, no matter what speed the corner is taken. This is why they were so successful in rally racing in the 60's.
The bags, like in the Merc, were only made for a few years and are now so rare that people fit the "standard" Mini rubber or coil springs when the inevitable leaks occur. Dave D.
I can't believe my two favorite RUclips shops are collaborating.
You have to... you're looking right at it...
Always good vids but i chuckled at this part -> "There are none of those available, they're unobtanium" half a second later "I actually found one ..." 😂😂
Wizard needs a Citroen SM with the Maserati V6.
One of the better Car Wizard videos.
Always cool watching two talented mechanics talk with each other.
What an awesome episode guys! Both of you are extremely talented technicians, it’s great to see y’all do another episode! Thank you!
The Euro spec Citroens had headlights that turned with the steering. The US spec ones lacked that feature, but could be easily converted with parts from Citroen.
Agreed, the conversion should be relativly easy. A bit of the pannel work supporting the light cluster would need replacing, but other than that, the DS is already configured to accept all the brackets and leavers to link up the head lights.
There is another seperate system that pivots the 2 outer lamps up and down, connected with linkeges to both axle hights.
If the car dives, headlamps stay parallel to the road. Simple but effective system.
Except this is an ID19, not a DS.
@@trespire There are a LOT of parts that need to be replaced (the whole headlamp assembly), and a LOT of parts that need to be bought to do the conversion. It's a lot of work, but definitely possible, if you REALLY want turning and leveling headlights. simes888, you can do it on an ID19; it's really the same car as a DS, just without all the fancy trim and luxury goodies.
@@simes888 It's clearly a DS. ID's don't have the hydropneomatic suspention.
@@trespire
If you watch Hoovie’s channel where he bought this car, there is a clue there:
“Buying this weird 1969 Citroen ID 19 was a total disaster. I am so DUMB!”
Its very easy to add a sway bar to the coil spring kits. All you have to do is order the sway bar, sway bar links, and lower control arms from a W220 that had coil springs or airmatic from the factory. Works for W220 and W/C215 cars where ABC has been deleted.
I was going to say.....Didn't the non ABC cars come with sway bars?
The standard S500 & S430 came with "Airmatic" suspension that has sway bars, you are spot on regarding the front, but the rear is where the pain is as you have to drop the subframe to fish in the sway bar. however; it's still not gonna ride as the ABC does cause the replacement coilovers on the market are poor quality and ride horribly regardless the funky ride height. I'm glad that my ABC worked flawlessly until I sold the car ;).
The expensive part about adding swaybars is not the parts, but the labor as it requires dropping the front and rear subframes. Someone needs to invent a swaybar kit that doesn't require dropping the subframe. Perhaps a swaybar that unbolts into various sections?
@@realestateeric The rear does have to be dropped but the front does not. Everything is accessible with it in place.
@@danielhurley7018 What about the R230 SL55? That requires a front subframe drop though right?
Seeing a car guy experience a DS for the first time never gets old. :)
Love the cross over episodes, love the Wizard, Alex and Peter!
That Citroen continues to not disappoint 👍
I love the parts where modern mechanics marvel at the Citröen and it's quirks. They should end up in some compilation.
Like having to unbolt the rear wing to change a wheel, but not having to use a jack because the suspension will lift the wheel for you!
Remember seeing an Citroën sitting on a rocking ferry trying it's best staying level! :)
Back in the day, my uncle bought an1970 Citroen SM. He was a very well to do lawyer, and could afford to keep it running, but he finally sold it in favor of a Porsche. Citroen had purchased Maserati, so it had a Maserati 170 HP V-6. It also sported a very bold Maserati name plate on the trunk lid. As I recall, he was very proud of it.
Scott at Cold War Motors has one, and a couple of DSs.
SM is a iconic car ... perharps 20 or 30 years in advance on her time
I actually started watching LSC from a Wizard episode a long time ago, when Hoovie sold the CL65 to Alex. Wizard and LSC have become my favorite automotive guys.
You can just see him falling in love with the Citroen
"I definitely wanted to show you the Citroën" said the Wizard. "I definitely want to see that Citroen", said Alex. "Ok, lets go see that Jaguar." Great episode and am already and have been subscribed to both of you for over a year now. (When I have to try so hard to find anything to comment on , then you know how excellent the show is.)
Wizard, your videos are better than ever and just great having Alex visit the Omega Auto Clinic. You should hit 1 million subscribers soon.
Wizard. You should have shown Alex how to change a tire on the Citroen (LOL!!) and then driving off with 3 wheels!!. That DS21 is hilarious.
Too funny, Wizard is still getting great use / value from his auction bid / win of AV carts!
Wait, wait, wait - you're telling you me you can change the heater core without ripping up the dashboard?? MADNESS!! Madness I tell you!!
Awesome collaboration! I love learning how to upgrade and maintain my AMG, and Alex's videos are the absolute best! Not too many detailed videos out there specific to AMG maintenance & upgrades.
Thanks Car Wizard! Your channel is a godsend on RUclips!
I watch both channels. Great to see you both together! Also a good change from Alex's videos with Samcrac. ;)
It is great that the really nice guys in the youtube car world are somehow connected and do stuff together. 😁😁👍
Love the Citroen. Wizard will be like a 70s Harvard Professor driving in that LOL
As an ex-Mercedes-Benz dealer tech, the smell of Pentosin CHS11S hydraulic fluid brings back bad memories of servicing those ABC systems. 🥴
Once again the Citroen steals the show.
For many years in the UK, the people who took cine film of horse races to check on infractions of the riding rules, would drive along a cinder track on the inside of the rails of the main course ahead of the horses, used the estate safari versions of the DS, with the 35mm cine cameraman on the roof. Following that they used the also hydraulically suspended CX Safari. My wife had a carbureted CX saloon, which we had endless troubles with, after a fill of really dirty fuel.
That's too bad about the dirty fuel in the CX.
I have 2 now., 1975 CX2000 (club), and 1987 CX25 GTI.
Alex got a once in a lifetime crank start on a Citroen! How cool is that! Thanks for bringing Alex on your channel.
You cannot give us enough on the Citroen DS seeing that you can kick-start a car was just mind-blowing
Alex as a Mercedes consultant is completely different guy from his channel with his and Peter antics ! Hands folded, looks like he's in Church !
Hope you guys can cross pollinate and pickup some subscribers ! I'm already there !
Awesome! I love crossover videos and Alex from LSC is one of the best.
These Citroens are much admired in Europe, with good reason. The first of this type was mid 50s I think ; so advanced the and it looks to me like it wears well.
I love LegitStreetCars, got to meet him in Chicagoland at a cars and coffee and got to take a photo of our Benz' together... Love to see both your success
Awesome content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Great to see your personalities complement and reflect on each other. Great approachable technical conversation
I must say , i’m a old Citroën lover , i like those cars but i Just can’t afford them , but they are so cool ! Love it that you bought this care !
Dude, I loved this episode. Glad to see both of you go through these great cars. Tons of automotive knowledge at work. Keep it up!
Great to see you guys collaborating. Car guys love to see that! It’s a community of brothers and some sisters!!!! Love your channels
STELLAR COLLAB WIZARD. THE CHEMISTRY YOU TWO HAVE IS VERY NOTICEABLE AS IS THE ENTHUSIASM YOU BOTH BRING DURING YOUR CONVERSATIONS! PURE RUclips GOLD!
That's the beauty of the Citroen! Here in Europe and Mozambique we can still see this babies running in the streets. Nice video👌. Cheers from Portugal! ✌️🇵🇹🇲🇿😎
Wizard needs a daily partner to exchange thoughts and plans. Much better show when there is another person expert to work with.
LOVED this collaboration!! Two of my favorite and most educational people on RUclips. Thank you both for the content and knowledge!
Citroën hydraulics are bullet proof, litrally ( remember De Gaules assasination attempt ! ).
Out of all the fancy overly complex mercedes engineering, or any other suspension manufacturer, non even come close to Citroën system.
The DS is car of the century for a very good reason.
Tell him about driving on 3 wheels!
Great episode with both you and Alex , Wizard!
It's always a good day when two of your favorite RUclipsrs get together for a video! Especially when they are both gifted mechanics and are so good at explaining what they are doing, and they both have a good sense of humour!
Truly a great collaboration , on a valuable topic for the many MB owners.
What a great idea to do the walk around and talk shop!
Great content. Good to see 2 good channels and people come together
Great meeting! Congrats to both for your videos! About the DS headlights euro spec as of Sept'67 had directional headlights.!!!
😯
2 great mechanics, 2 great channels. 1 great collaboration! Thanks for the content guys! Fun stuff.
Now come on guys. My two favorite channels together!!!
Great video guys. Great collaboration 👌
I am working in automotive development, in different product groups along the years. You can not learn from +100 years of experience, because all the experience is a human thing. Employees are coming an going. There is no experience passing over. Unfortunately the DTC are a regular rule in industry. (Design To Cost) Most of the colleagues of mine don't even care about quality of the final product as long thay are passing the validation tests.
It now become a fine art to desighn something to fail just out of warranty. It's a tactic to increase parts sales revenue for the company.
@@trespire Planned obsolescence. First said in 1932.
Just like appliances.
So satisfying watching this!!! I was just commenting a few days ago about what I thought was Alex’s most challenging task/rebuild, his CL65 and here are you two, talking about another nightmare, an old school S65!! AWESOMESAUCE!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Love the reaction to this car, Iconic now in Europe, almost occult following, and much respected.
My 2 favorite mechanics on RUclips in one video !
I never miss any of their videos and it’s a rare treat to see these 2 guys together. Both of these men are always full of insight on automobiles and can make us understand how and why we need to keep our vehicles maintained. Thanks to both of you gentlemen for your honesty and sharing your expertise with all of us on RUclips 😊 !
Thanks for the video. I remember growing up in NYC seeing Citroens
Great video, funny to watch reaction from an experienced mechanic.
Great channel from the uk. Thumbs up. Very honest and non biased
Mercedes ABC, the suspension nobody asked for, nobody needed and nobody wanted
And nobody wants to repair.
Wiz. Great vid. LOve your channel and Legit's. YOu seem so much more relaxed with Alex, not so stiff. ANYWAY, the Citroen is an amazing trick, keep on !
Two of my favorite Ytubers coming together! This is great content!
Love you wizard, as an aspiring tech I learn a lot from you and your character.
Starting that Citroën is one of the best things I have seen. Awesome!
A friend of mine's father had a Citroen DS 23 Pallas. It was the ultimate DS Citroen. It had a 5 speed gearbox as well. It was the smoothest car ever to ride in. Jay Leno is correct. An amazing car
The ultimate DS was the 23efi, with fuel injection. If I'm not mistaken, it has 138 bhp. A 5 speed box if a must for long drives.
Man did I enjoy this!! Two of my favorite car guys!
Two awesome people in one video. I really enjoy both channels.
This was one of your EPIC videos as far as teaching the ABC's about M.B. w/Alex!👍
If this was a Rock video it would be the collaboration equivalent to the likes of TOOL & GODSMACK!✌🌟✌
Great video. That Citreon is the gift that keeps on giving.
Love, love, love the co-lab! Two of my favourite people. I knew Alex was down there, knew he visited and I know he bought the red wagon!!!@
The fact they can do the Citroen review with straight faces with a toilet in the background is priceless. Like every mechanic shop has a random toilet on the floor in the work area…I know it’s for the bus but the fact it was not there as a gag and they just press on made me smile that much harder.
Name a better crossover event for car repair knowledge; I’ll wait.
I agree with the Citroen being too cool to not own 😆👍 Every dream collection needs a weird car. Thank you for the videos 👍
Great to see *Alex* in the shop !
Great to see Alex and David together!
Citroën had the gearbox ahead of the engine since 1934...... and hydropneumatic appeared first on the rear suspention in 1954. For us, it's very common.....
The hydropneumatic system first appeared on the rear axle only of late production Traction Avant, as you stated just prior to 1955. The Traction Avant is another ground braking car. Has great handling for getting away from the Gistapo in Paris' tight winding streets !!
This was a cool colab. I think they both learned something from eachother and that in itself is a good day.
Cool to see this collaboration!! Chi-town!
Try the CX Pallas, that is soooo comfy to drive and more modern but still as nice!
The CX has the best ride and handling. But you need the correct tires.
Doug Demuro really needs to review the Citroen when its fixed
I noticed the loo behind the guys at around 18:30 and was surprised to find that I wasn't surprised by that. I love this channel.
The hydraulic system in the DS is insane. And I believe they sold it to both Mercedes and Rolls-Royce. And you`ll find the same system in the CX and XM models.
It's so cool of Alex to help out these small youtubers
Driving on three wheels was used by Citroen in one of their ads, abo9ut three cars in unison!
Alex and the LSC channel are the best! I think Wizard, Alex, and Jared should team up Car Trek style. Do some questionable builds together or build offs against each other
I’d watch!
About the citroen, here in Europe it's called the Goddess
The hydraulic systeem is anazing, except when it's broken, it's terrible. Using lhm
The gearbox in front of the engine is weird to most eyes but in France from the 60s to the 80s everybody did it, not just Citroën, but Renault and Peugeot also built cars this way.
Legit Wizard! 2 great techs from 2 great channels!
super cool video. Love the fact they wrote the "é" correctly
Alex's videos on his C65 were understandibly a nightmare for him but today are among his best material, I followed it with keen interest.
What an awesome colab!!
With that beautiful suspension it's no wonder the Citroen DS won a few Monte Carlo rallies back in the day. They also made convertible and wagon versions too.
