I Broke Down and bought my Dream Ferrari, a 360 Modena. It looked to be really nice, with just a bit of cosmetic wear! But within 20 seconds of it's arrival, I found out that I had been scammed...

Yes, disclosure is important. YOU should DISCLOSE the name of the auction house that screwed you over so the rest of us don’t make the same mistake.
Copart
Excellent. Now, we know what to do and spread the message.
It’s copart
Everything at a salvage auction is sold as is and the only thing they are liable for is to get you a negotiable title. If you overpaid, put on your bigboy pants and get over it, otherwise, stay away from salvage cars.@@sccarguy8242
lol nothing new from copart, they're notorious for sus sales like this@@AlfaKenyBody
I really wish you'd publish the auction house's name. That might wake them up. Without any backlash it's going to be status quo for the auction house.
Its Copart. He said he's worked with them and has filmed at their locations before. Super shitty to do this to someone you pay to represent you.
Yes copart u can see lot number at 1:28
it's def copart. and from my research most cars at copart are a scam anyway. not sure why he bought the car there.
He's lucked out on a few.. Plus he has the parts in the money to fix these things@@tomzphone
The seller/previous owner should get the backlash not the auction house... Unless they knew.
NAME THE AUCTION HOUSE. It's a civic responsibility to hold these places accountable and warn others.
Copart.
Copart duh
Sam thank you for sending me the details on this auction vendor. I have cancelled all future bids that we had pending with them. We have put them on our permanent blacklist. We will not do business with these people who are dishonest.
Nice try 😂
Sure you did😂😅😅
All your pending bids 😂😂😂😂😂 right
8:20 “how do you know it’s not supposed to sound like that?” …..”because my other 360s don’t sound like it”
Maybe its something wrong with other one?
@@xiukn8 Good point
Because he has like 4 of them and none of them sound like that also that’s not normal for any car plus he drained the fluid and it was totally mixed and messed up.
I can't believe he didn't argue that. He literally had two other Ferraris of the same generation 🤦
How many Ferrari’s does it take to actually break Sam? One of the great mysteries of the universe, we may never know 😂
He has put me off Ferraris for life!
It took me one more than this one. Seriously I'm kinda stuck though because I like mid engine Italian cars and the Lamborghinis are all too expensive now
Appears the number must be larger than the number of busted Land Rover & Range Rovers he has purchased over the years.
@@Samcrac Just buy a classic Fiat 500, a mid engined Italian car.
He just turns them out to pasture like the other vehicles...
One other thing, I'm tiring of RUclipsrs who buy a garbaged supercars super cheap because of some problem only to find out it only needed new plugs and a wax job. The percentage of these guys who claim this is suspect. You are giving us the truth of the mess buying cars like this can be. Thanks for that.
Selling any Ferrari is never a bad decision Sam. Thanks to you I have no interest in ever owning one! Love the videos though!!
Too bad. They really are nice cars. Never had any real problems with my 360, just general maintenance items.
Like a boat, two good days of ownership-day it arrives and day it goes.
Keep the hood emblem and put it on a Honda. Add Gas and drive.;0)
I'm not sure how good the money is from "Unnamed Car Auction"(I know who it is), but I'd stop working with them after they treated you like this. Especially if it was a pilot program to see if letting sellers do their own thing would work out. It's 100% their responsibility to admit when their own ideas to save a buck fail to represent their company properly.
After this happened I stopped buying cars from them. Long story but I did end up getting 2 cars from them last year through a convoluted deal. But in that time I've probably bought something like 20-30 cars and it was all through other auction outlets.
I would want to have every car with owner disclosures flagged before bidding (yea, it’s probably done, or should be). I’d love it if they started seeing lower hammer prices due to such foolishness. Just another trick to save their time and money and shift any blame back on the seller.
also if he keeps working with them it only encourages them to scam his viewers
Sam also explained the value of filming new content in their yards is worth it for -him- his viewers to get ripped off, and he doesn't want to lose that opportunity.
You should consider legal action against the auction house. The car comes with a bad engine AND transmission.
They have disclaimers all over their website saying they aren't liable for any misrepresentation. Nothing you can do except don't buy from them.
Lol it was years ago
@@OnyxCobra Sometimes disclaimers are not even readable in tiny little fine print during a smiley conversation with a gregarious sales agent that seems to be your new best friend at the time at least. But if they roll back odometers or turn a blind eye to those who do, the dignity just isnt there. Take the trillionaire tax exempt pope for example and his enablers. Those hypersonic missiles dont just make themselve$.
King Chuck's court.
But is the juice worth the squeeze? Sometimes, the best thing to do is to learn from it and walk away.
Here's what I learned today. This EHEM.. "unnamed" auction company won't stand behind anything no matter how obvious, even for a loyal and repeat customer.
Unfortunately, the auction house is at the behest of the seller. They're just a 3rd party that helps with the listing and transaction. They don't have the time, resources, or knowledge to do a thorough inspection of every vehicle. They have disclaimers all over the site detailing such. The sellers should be made public so they can be banned after shady auctions.
@@erickorff1919 the auction house in this case should be acting as a mediator for foolishness such as this. the car was misrepresented.. ie: the seller lied. did CP ban this seller? demand they re-run the auction with a proper disclosure? nope. so why pay the premiums at a place like this when you are better off just buying off of facebook marketplace? you can get screwed for a lot less money there. same reason i buy from amazon now instead of ebay. ebay wont back anything and hold sellers accountable. but hey, if CP wants to get a name for not doing anything about scammers who use their service to rip people off, then so be it.
Yeah, don't offer a seller-controlled verification system if you aren't going to enforce it when they misrepresent. That's supposed to be the whole point of that phony program!@@funkyzero
Sam, give up these Italian junkers, after working with this type of stuff in Orlando for several years I never seen a good one. You’re a better man then I to take it in the back door on this one. Keep in mind I just bought an amg with a no start for fuel that after a new pump needed an engine…..much cheaper repair though and I’m still way ahead on the value thankfully.
"How do you know it's not supposed to sound like that?" wow. Did he also ask "how do you know the transmission is not supposed to be full of gravy?"
To be honest I got a bit mouthy when he said this
@@Samcracgood, sounds like it’s a scummy auction company
I love how Sam explains things while also showing working on it,with side shots of things being open or taken apart, the car wizard just talks about the cars issues he has in his shop, never shows him actually working
I stopped watching his channel because of that, I don’t want to hear you just talk about what’s wrong with the cars I want to see them being worked on too but nope just talks about them
That's why I unsubsidized from the wizard
He doesn’t work on them, they are repaired by magic! He is the car wizard after all 🙈
@@robgraham9234 weeeezardd
@@wurly164 I'm about to do the same thing
Smart choice, I enjoy how you explain the full process and glad you only had a small loss. Really enjoying your channel
Great video. You are so great at explaining what you are doing and why I wish you would make more videos of a process like this, explaining the things you aren't showing. You are a good teacher and I would like to see more detail. But I''ll still happily watch. Thanks.
20:02 You cut your losses. The right move! Unless you did the LS swap
You made the right decision, a full engine AND transmission overhaul plus whatever else along the way would have easily busted the bank!
I think you did the right thing, I see myself in you with the current car situation I'm in and I'm glad I got to learn about your journey through a similar issue
You're the man Sam, I've seen you rebuild stuff and fix issues I just couldn't even dream of tackling because of the soul crushing weight of the disappointment lol. I know you're burned out on this car, but I also know if you choose to pick it up in time and make it run and drive that'll be an inspiration to us all. Honestly I do my own mechanic work but would never own a car like this, I watch the videos because of your admirable attitude when it comes to practically fixing things that're broken beyond reasonable repair. If you sell it on that's cool, I would do the same lol... but also like I said, you are the master of forcing these things back to life on a budget.
This is what I assumed all auction cars were like with the OCCASIONAL gem slipping through.
You were right not to let your heart bet your pocket book. Nostalgia can be a deep money pit.
From a former 360 owner: That's the notorious HEAT EXHANGER failure, not a "cooler". As it both cools AND warms up the gearbox oil. When it fails its gonna be huge $$$ but its also PITA (expensive) to change for "preventive maintenance" -> many owners overlook this and rest is ... well ... what Sam is experiencing. Will ruin your gearbox, even rear diff as they share the same .... how to say it, "oil space" or "housing" or such.
Even though this project was a lost, i always enjoyed watching you documenting your process and it's always a pleasure to watch you trouble shoot/problem solve. I work as engineer and when i'm stuck i always find your videos motivating they truly help me rethink my approach. Good luck on your future builds!
2:49 🤣🤣🤣 Classic! I love it! Where is Stevon???
Most people probably have dreams of owning a Ferrari.
This channel has literally given me nightmares of owning one.
Always look forward to your videos!
Heck of a story Sam. Thanks for sharing.
The burned car was a far better deal, because not only was it a better looking car, but the repair was more rewarding than just replacing a worn expensive part. You were right to get out of it when you did for as little of a loss as possible.
I bet that repair cost a fortune. But yeah, nice car.
You did the right thing, Sammy. Stepmom would agree too. You cut your losses before getting in deeeep. Pretty shitty that Copart would do you dirty like that. I mean that's pretty much the main auction house you work with. 1+1=Copart.
That's not his stepmother. and they are probably not his sister either.
I think The Samuel, is lying about that. He seems nice, she seems nice, but they are both lying liars that lie, acting in concert. They are not ripping off Copart though, they are both way more honest than that. Copart on the other hand though, created a storefront opportunity for marginalizers to enact live auctions on products that are not inspected yet they do things such as cause people such as The Samuel to end up being ripped off and wanting to go public about it in a way that he can't be sued by a wealthy billionaire that seems to own the entire mall.
That's the nature of auctions it's where dealers screw over other dealers
Now Sam and Stepmom have more in common. They can both take it hard up the @** with a smile!
Great video, really enjoy your 360 content.
It's hard to say if you did the right or wrong thing. Especially when you're collecting cars because of your passion. If you were making a commercial decision then the obvious answer would be an obvious one but as a guy that is in this as a hobby then the right decision is the decision you make. Love watching you bring life back into some of these vehicles and love your videos, cheers!
Thanks Cxxxxxx. I recently purchased a Ford Escape from Cxxxxx, supposedly only had hail damage. Took it off the trailer, put it in gear and the transmission light lit up. Transmission was ruined. I got the same reaction from Cxxxxx that Sam did, essentially, "stick it in your ear." . I sent it back to the auction to get rid of it and they listed it with mechanical issues. I lost $2,000. About 50% of what I paid for it. Buyer beware.
Your first mistake was buying a Ford...You second mistake was buying it from rip off xxpart who charges absurd fees as well as BS subscription fees and will still sell you garbage intentionally but that's just my opinion....
Your first mistake was buying a ford escape.
Hey, that rhymes!
Somewhat…
As the great Maxwell Smart would say... "The ol' gravy in the gearbox trick. I should have known."
Hey Sam, I think you did the right thing with the latest 360. It was hard to hear not only transmission failure thanks to the cooler, but worn piston rings, as well. Ugh.
Are you still working on the green 360 Spyder? I remember the top hydraulics were a problem. I’d love to see you driving around in one completed 360! You deserve it.
Watching your experience makes me rethink my future purchases, thank you!
Sam, a good general knows when to fight and when not to. Pick your battles. Take the W’s when they come and the L’s. Just minimize risk and maximize reward when you can. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. Your step mom is always there to soothe the savage beast.😊
The LS swapped 360 sounds amazing. This is a great info share for other buyers.
So glad to have a video again. It was a loooooong 4 weeks. Best wishes Samcrac all the way from Belfast!
Thanks! You too!
By copart standards it was run and drive and would not have been mechanical… mechanical only gets posted if it’s obviously misfiring, smoking, knocking etc… this car at a copart yard would have been listed the same way.
Ferarri 360s and Range/Land rovers are the worst but Sam sure does loves 'em.
Good work Samcrac you have done well.
Yes, you did the right thing. I had the same problem with a BMW mini Cooper that I bought. It spent more time being broken then being actually driven so I did the smart moved it on.
Glad to see you back, Sam. Yeah, I think you were right to just sell it on and cut your loses, although it's a beautiful car and would've been great to see it drive properly.
With how much they charge in fees, you would guess they would be much better about arbitration in a situation like this. Nothing besides them making money hand over fist here. You handled it well and got a friend out of it!
I honestly think you could’ve just kept it and dropped an LS with a Whipple. Would’ve been more powerful and reliable
That would take time, money, and fabrication. Not worth it
@@Afentiko smiles per gallon bud. You said this was your dream car but yet you sounded like you were going to sell it regardless. So maybe you just shouldn’t buy from auctions sight unseen.
If you want a toy. You build it. Have fun with it.
If it means putting a better power plant into it then go for it.
Or just stick to being boring and making boring content about you complaining about how you made a poor financial decision when you could of made a cool video out of it
Me too pal just like Adam
That's why we call him Sam Crackhead , he's cheap dishonest and lovable . Did I leave outllazy
It's Barret Jackson I bet , that's why he can't say or something similar like mecum or one of the many others out there
Great video Sam.
Yep, it's not good that they get away with fraud. You have a platform to help people, and letting us know who to avoid will help many not have the same thing happen to them.
Exactly what I expect an old F-car to be like. What a shitbox!
I think you should made a lawsuit against them. They need to understamd that is not good. People are getting scam
Sorry to hear that happened to you, it sounds like you had all the pieces, the skills, and the tools to put it together an make it a really nice car and bring it back from the brink of death. Hopefully whoever you sold it to can enjoy the project. You did 90% of the work, I think it would have been better to just install the new engine, new trans, and enjoy the car or sell it for more money. But you know your situation better and you have to be happy with the decisions you made because they are justified by your personal experience.
I think that you should have taken legal advice and pursued it with the auction….. whilst you are in a position to minimise loss and absorb some loss, others aren’t. As a home gh profile RUclipsr you should set an example, if only to safeguard others falling in to the same problem. It also may fall under fraud laws and need to be progressed within the police arena. The key is intent to defraud.
What happened to the DBS and the 599? Some people aren’t on IG. We look forward to your RUclips videos.
Water under the bridge....but would have made a good candidate for LS swap...however....too much money to throw away engine/trans. Thanks for sharing. Great Video.
This is why I like sam. He might have an addiction with salvage cars in his ranch but he knows when to say Stop. I think we got enough content from that car and what to avoid but all was done to educate us more to know the red flags.
Thanks for this video, Sam. You reminded me that it's been about four years since I changed the coolant in my 360. Probably time to do it again. Don't want to run into that problem.
I got a McLaren for wayyyy too cheap too, haven't warmed it up to temp. Hoping it isn't this situation 😬
If it's a MP4-12c then it probably is 🤪
@@SamcracI think it’s a 600lt , he’s got a pretty good channel. I like what I’ve watched so far
Yeah I think you did good moving it on. Honestly, at that point, it would make more sense just to buy a nice example rather than replacing the engine, trans, and then spending more to fix other small things on it. On top of that, it wasn't even a gated manual.
I know I’m late to this video. However, I would like to say that I have just received my very first auction car and would like to thank you for alleviating any stress I had with going for any Copart vehicle. You really have shown me that looking up auction cars and bidding isn’t so bad as long as you’re willing to fix some problems. I’m not taking anywhere near as much risk as you are as I’m messing with making a Honda fit a reasonable daily, whereas you’re fixed lots of cars. I wish to get where you’re at and making a living off of fixing cars the right way and keep one now and the for myself cause why not.
Yes, you made the right decision! It would have been a money pit. Once you got it all sorted, you would have been further upside-down on it.
The person selling the car 'creating ' their own disclosure. What could go wrong 😅
Right, shockingly enough, the fox proved to be a poor guard for the hen house
8:19 how do you not speak with an attorney or contact the state's consumer protection bureau?
I find it so funny that the cooler looks very similar to the cooler on my 99 F250 7.3 turbo diesel. That LS swap was incredible! It sounded amazing and the power was incredible!
Any fix is simple…as long as you throw enough $$$ at it!
I thought SamCrac died of alcohol poisoning
You’re the man Sam! You did the right thing for sure.
I have been watching your videos for a while. First video I watched, I was like “I know this guy but don’t remember from where” now I know. God bless you, my friend. My name is Daniel Gagné from Boca Raton. Love your content. I hope I’ll be able to talk to you one of these days soon.
i would have made a stink at the auction and demanded they do something about it or i would have complained to, well in the uk we have trading standards to help get our money back, and they usually win. i get why you didnt make more of this but there are lots of car auction sites in the US, so would it have been all that bad?
Most of North America has consumer protection acts you could write on the back of a stamp. It's a continent of scams and rip offs and when it happens to you, you're usually boned.
You did the right thing in getting rid of the Ferrari, based on the facts as described. If you didn't have the passion for the car any longer then it makes no sense to expend money or effort to make it right. The one exception to all this for me is, having seen Andrew's LS swap Ferrari, I might have wanted to duplicate that as a long-term driver. I'm not a purist when it comes to foreign cars (not a collector), so I would rather maintain an LS Ferrari that ruins than a finicky all-original Ferrari with problems just waiting to show their expensive faces. Having watched you deal with your other Ferraris, it seems clear that you base your decisions more on $$ than on personal feelings about a car, since for you, there will always be another interesting/exciting car coming down the pike.
I think you're right to get out of it how you did, just dont give up on getting the car you want!
Really glad we got to see the story on this one at last, Sam.
Sorry you got burned on it though - real shame, because it looked like a nice car (and it is a lovely colour).
You did the right thing getting out of it I'm sure and pleased that you didn't lose too much money in the end.
I do think the auction house should not be getting off scot-free on this one though
speaking of full disclosure, where is your step-mother these days?
So what auction was it? So they dont burn us….
Welcome to a new episode of Just rolled in..
10:46 quick restart like a pro 😂
I'm getting worried over your repeated Ferrari debacles Sam. Should we stage an intervention?
I need a longer video on that LS swapped Ferrari. That thing seems nice
Have you seen Lasersterling? He 3D printed his own Aventador. LS power.
Now he's doing a McLaren with the new C8 Corvette powerplant. LT2?
I like how you did the Rich rebuilds with the "where's Stephen" address on the stamps ad!
10:58 LOL Great video, Sam! Sorry about the Ferrari.
You were bound to strike out, things have been going too good.
Clicking on Sam's videos to support his addiction
you always try to be so dramatic for the sake of attention? Are you an 11 year old girl?
Weak battery aka slow turnover will effect your numbers sometimes, as well as Throttle not open wide. Maybe its diff on a Ferrari but in most cases you have to have the throttle plates open full and a FULL battery turning fast to get good numbers from your test.
That was an awesome dig at Rich rebuilds. " 4200 where's Stephen Drive". Lol
You made the right decision Sam. This would have just gotten lost in the sea of other Ferrari projects that have no updates. (599 rebuild, aftermarket gated transmission swap, etc)
Thank you for the lesson ❤
great channel,, very thorough,,,,,,,,,,,
Great video
Hi Sam. That's terrible what the Auction did. But as you said the Auction is your Bread and Butter so you didn't want to annoy them. Would Ratarossa not buy it off you??. Anyway you did the only thing you could do was to get the Hell out from under it. Well done bro. It's Great to see you again. More video's please. 😅 🇨🇮
Stunningly beautiful looking line's on this ferrari, looks amazing on thumbnail 😍
You made the right decision. I, on the other hand, would have been stupid enough to rebuild the original engine, spend tons of frustrating hours tinkering, maybe getting it to run right, and try to enjoy it knowing I’d never get my money back out of that car. I’d also make a modification to the trans cooler. No more oil to water cooler. I’d switch it to an oil to air cooler with it’s own fan.
You have helped me so much to never have any interest in a car from an auction and to never want a luxury vehicle. Too much money for a potential problem vehicle and parts are ridiculous in price.
I realize an LS is very reliable and makes lots of power and there is aftermarket parts everywhere for them but part of the Ferrari experience is the look and sound of that engine. While I would still love the car I would still be disappointed if I didn’t have that Ferrari engine in mine. But since I couldn’t even afford the wheels off one I doubt I ever have to worry about this.
I think you did right to get rid of it. Sometimes, its better to cut your loses quickly than extended and they can get out of control. You got lucky the market went upside down and used cars were more expensive for a short period. So you did catch a break there.
What I don’t get usually when you buy a car from the auction you can take a look at before you even buy, when I as a kid I used to go with my dad to the auctions “clean title auctions not copart “ and we could even go days before to check out the car etc
Glad to see it go. You have more fun projects. I would like to see more Corvette content.
I purchased a vehicle online from a very high end car dealership up north almost two years ago. Such a beautiful vehicle that looked perfect, battery died on first day, crack in lower windshield, badly smashed body panel near jack point, several scratches in paint and one large gouge, clutch is weak, oil filter & sticker said 2011 and the OEM chrome wheels are pealing.
Swap it with something crazy lol these chassis are so light and it looks like a lot of stuff could fit in there. Nice little go kart platform for something cool.
Good question @RichRebuilds - WHERE IS STEVEN? Love how you slipped that one in
Sam, we're always worried about your sanity. Letting go of a pit for a livable loss sounds like a good decision.
I'm sitting on a similar scenario with salvage auction car.
There's lots of possible "mechanics specials" on FB that could make at least make use of the engine, but I have serious doubts about the cars on FB marketplace. My gut says they're often scams of some sort. So I may just sell the salvage car for a significant loss just to get my garage space back.
Definitely, you were right to get rid of it, though a bit late in the process, with a rebuild engine purchased. But, with a dream car, you always tend to spend more than the car is worth because it is not all about the money then.
