    I watched this video in the year 11 summer after finishing GCSEs. I was excited to start sixth form and really do well in my A levels. I'm writing this during my A level exam season. I have many regrets. I remember on the first few days of year 12, I really started to get into the academic swing of things, but then it changed when I got arrogant due to finding stuff easy, and boasting my GCSE grades to myself. I had great friends during my time at sixth form, I'm grateful for the people I've met, but sometimes you have to put yourself first. Don't be as arrogant as I was. from then on out, I didn't try in lessons, I didn't do homework, I didn't try on any exams and I completely forgot the advice in this video. I didn't do as well as I liked in my UCAS exams, meaning I wasn't able to apply to the universities I wanted to. I'm sitting here, at the end of year 13, regretting the decisions I made in the past two years. I'm scrambling to get any good grades I can, as I do Maths, Physics and Computer Science, arguably difficult subjects. I hope that I can start fresh in university and try this advice again. Make sure to keep on top of your homework, try in every lesson and such. I prioritised my social life instead of balancing it out and seeing the merit in sixth form. It will be the final years of your somewhat mandatory school life, so make the most of it.

      Thank you for this comment I’m starting sixth form September 2024 and although I plan on doing subjects I excel at during gcses I don’t want to be too arrogant and believe it will be the same as A level. Of course, it will be harder and I need to try my best

    • @mahamedsharif126
      @mahamedsharif126 10 дней назад

      @antonia_boo yeah it seems you have the correct mindset. When people told me there was a massive jump to A level, I saw it as cringe in my arrogance. Really just keep onto of your homework and priorize your two years at sixth form, value every minute of every lesson. If you're sick, ask the teacher to send you notes from the lessons you missed. It might sound dumb and nerdy, and people might laugh at that, but you will walk into your school on results say and will be smiling from ear to ear, being greatful for the work you put in the last two years. You can still have fun at sixth form, but please prioritise yourself. Use your free periods wisely. I just scrolled tiktok and played football in them. I'm awaiting results day rn, not feeling confident, but I wish all the best for you! You can do it, you can get those 3 A*s or more if you so choose. But for now let's get those gcse grades and be proud. I believe in you!

      Honestly the best piece of unsolicited advice I can give you is this: you know how you’re nervous? Stressing? Thinking everybody is judging you? Guess what: everybody is thinking the same thing. Everybody is the centre of their own world and are way too focused on themselves to worry about what you’re doing. I say this with full certainty, go out there tomorrow at your new school and be open minded, you owe it to yourself. Don’t go in with a negative mindset because that will affect how your day goes. And lastly, good luck, you’ll do great!

      Since we were in lockdown most of the time we had to learn most of the new content ourselves which was a lot tougher. I found that online lessons were not enough to fully understand the content so had regular sessions with friends online to try and learn/revise together. Great video and advice. I've been struggling to decide between my school's sixth form and a college that's a bit further away. Part of me wants to stay at my sixth form cause my friends are there and I don't want to grow distant from people. But part of me wants to go to a new college to meet new people and face a new challenge. I don't want to just be stuck inside my own bubble I guess.

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  3 года назад +8

      Thank you! That sounds like a tough problem. I would say that even if you stay where you are, you would still meet so many new people like I did whilst keeping your close friends. But even if you go to another college, you could still keep contact with your friends although it would be harder.
      It depends what you want the most and what you are looking for since sixth form is only 2 years. Do you want to mostly meet new people and face new challenges or do you want to maintain your current circle of people?
      I would write out a list of pros and cons for each side and then maybe try to discuss it with teachers and other people if you need more opinions.
      Hope this has helped a bit! Goodluck in your decision, I'm sure both options are great.👍

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  2 года назад +1

      Hi! I try to look at most comments! Yes, so I would look up active recall and spaced repetition in studying but I might make a video like this! Taking notes for most people doesn't retain information, you need to first understand the content and then try and learn/memorise it.
      Testing yourself is a great way to do this, using things like past papers, flashcards and other methods of recall are useful.
      To make sure it is retained, you need to do this over a long period of time, it will be different for each person but this is an example: go over content/test yourself 1 day after you learn it, 3 days after, 1 week after, 3 weeks after etc.
      Hope this has helped a bit although you may find other methods of revision more useful!

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  2 года назад +2

      Hi, if you already know which course you want to do then I would look at the university requirements for the subjects required and that may help you to decide. Otherwise I think everyone will experience different subjects differently but I would ask yourself why you are not sure about continuing chemistry and want to start maths. You could always talk to your teachers for their opinions but these are early days for sixth form so another alternative is that you wait a little while longer to see if anything changes.

      @JadenYee  2 года назад +4

      EPQ's are extended project qualifications. Most schools use them as a replacement to an A level so you might do 3 a levels and 1 epq. They are a project where you research a topic of interest and write an essay about it as a final product. Some schools probably won't offer them so I would see if your school does first. Not sure when every school starts it but we started it near the mid end of year 12.
