I can't fathom how so many brits have a diet based on takeout food when they have such a filling and delicious traditional cuisine. I'll definitely try this recipe one of these days!
A home tip from me (I'm not a chef) use sparkling water instead of beer...and then with the 2nd Yorshire (without the sausage) you can have for pudding with golden syrup and cream and or Icecream :D (also leave out the rosemary in the pudding.dessert one"!)
just finished making this for the whole family but swapped out the beer option for sparkling water and it still worked out fine. Went down a storm!! thank you Jamie, the whole gang went in for seconds including the missus that's how well it went! ☺
I have a book of traditional English cooking from close on 60 years ago that includes a recipe for Toad in the Hole with onion gravy and here is Jamie doing up the recipe in another century. This to me is the quintessential English dish for the working man, the hearty eater. Well done, Jamie.
How weird is this... I actually googled this recipe of yours yesterday.... as my daughter is bringing uni mates home tonight for dinner and studying, so making proper winter homemade food! Never thought about an extra giant Yorkie but defo doing this! Thanks Jamie x
Jamie , this Toad in a hole looks absolutely, totally delicious! l have seen your programs since you were very young, back in the ‘80s..and working your magic from a basement! You and Gennaro are my ever very favorite chefs.Period!
I love the idea of making a pan of just Yorkshire pudding. I made toad in the hole for my kids last week and their biggest complaint was that there wasn't enough pudding. I'll make sure to make extra

When I first skimmed the title I thought it said "Turds in the Hole," making me wonder exactly how far Britain has slipped over the past many decades. Then I watched the video and realized the error in my perception. It really looks quite yummy. Carry on, Dr. Oliver!
I love toad in the hole!!! But it's funny how my fiance toad in the hole is an egg in the middle of toast but my mom being from England this is what I know as toad in the hole. Lol
i think Jamie is good at keeping his kitchen clean. The 1 time I watch Nigella cooked, she used 4 pans/ measuring cups etc to cook 2 eggs! and tossed the egg shells into the kitchen sink
Grew up on this kind of food. No fancy food especially since even in thebearly 50s we were still trying to recover from ww2. I am going to have to try it. I have never had any luck with my Yorkshires over here.
I just made it. Had to mix that with the Yorkshire Pudding recipe. Used Carlsberg instead of milk. We're a bit low on some ingredients. But Jamie. I got the Matt Preston knock on the table. So thank you for that
Just made this bit not with 2 a spare yorkie just 1 egg for me in my small baking tray and tweaked the measurements to go with mu 1 egg lol ❤ thank Jamie that was inspiring x
Here in Australia, "Toad in the hole" is not made like that at all :P Our "Toad in the hole" is made with a slice of bread and an egg cooked in a frying pan, which apparently is called 'egg in the basket' elsewhere in the world.
@@MisterHarleyRider Well guess what you lot from the Colonies are missing a lot. Try the British way and you might get educated! That's how I make 'toad in the hole' but not 14 eggs just 3 or 4, depends how big they are!
My father used to make "winkies" for the kids ,he would cut a yolk size circle from the bread ,get the kid to wink through the hole for luck before he'd fry it and the egg together in lots of butter,,pretty good breakfast for a kid ,not too bad now.
I love toad in the hole. Here in Canada, Lawblaws branded stores usually carry the in house packed English Bangers. They are delicious and work perfectly in this recipe. That gravy is wonderful too. I add some mushrooms and chopped garlic to the pan while I brown the onions and sausage meat. Even better.

Because we are basically lazy and can't be bothered to cook.
I don’t think most Brits live in takeaways

I just love how he gets so excited lol. Since I saw his first yorkshire pudding recipe I haven't used anything else.
My impoverished childhood growing up in post war England all those memories in one dish. You can also make this with Pork chops. Thanks Jamie!
And then put jam on the left over pudding'..yum.yum.'.that was our cake as a child..

Next time my Supermarket has no eggs, I know why. Looks awesome.
2:01 Did you say FOURTEEN eggs??? 14? OMG, you are so my cooking hero!
Jamie used Hoegaarden, that’s the wheat beer he referred to.
هو عوض خميرة بخمر يمكن استعمال خميرةحلوى و بعض سكر و ماءدافئ لتنشيط خميرة
Hoegaarden - the only bear I will drink
Making it right now!! The gravy!!! OMG! 15 mins left 😊

Egg fried in a slice of bread is called a Toad in a Hole in the US also.

Currently making! Made the speedy quiche the other day - awesome! We made the cashew butter chicken last night 😋
Did he just say 14 eggs! I’m gonna need to buy a bigger bowl!!
I think everyone was amazed by the number of eggs. But. He had a huge bowl of eggs and he put them all in.
So I guess it is. 14 eggs.
😂... That's way too many eggs, surely..?
We make "Corn-dogs" the same way in cornbread mix with chili over the top.
Yes! Chilly is missing in this dish! 😉😊

Thank you so much for sharing
The kale is really looking like an imposter on that plate!
looks great
I'm thinking he meant four eggs. For that much flour I'd use three, so fourteen does seem bonkers!
What temperature does he have the oven? Does anyone know please?
Lovely, thanks
That’s my all time favourite meal on Sundays!
That looks so inviting.
oh oui oui oui !!!!!! I like it so so much !
