- “Autumn in New York” is a beautiful ballad written in 1934 by Russian- born composer Vladimir Dukelsky, who, at the urging of his friend George Gershwin, changed his name to Vernon Duke. He wrote this song before returning to NYC from his Connecticut summer home. It captures a lot of my feelings about my hometown, New York. When I play it, I hear the lyrics, see Central Park, and dig into the rich harmonies and chord changes.
The harmonica I used in this video:
Hohner Bb Marine Band with Special 20 reed coverplates (customized by Joe Filisko)

Super Gorgeous! I was thinking about posting a version of Autumn in New York, and then I saw yours, and thought, "well maybe not" .... and then I thought again and thought, "Ya know what? maybe yes I will" So stay tuned!
I hope you do. I'm sure it will be great.
You are a harmonica god! I love it! Bravo!
What a masterpiece! I couldn`t imagine that this is possible with a 10 hole diatonic blues harp.
amazing! ao beautiful, thanks master!
Fantastic. I saw your workshop in Rio de Janeiro maybe 30 years ago with Maurício Einhorn. What a amazing day. And when I saw you play the piano too its terrific too. Tks for all the great things that you make in music.
A favorite song of mine, rendered beautifullly by Mr. Levy. I was in New York a few weeks ago; still love it, grit and all. Another favorite version is by Dexter Gordon, the first one I heard many moons ago.
Thanks. It's amazing, unattainable.
It is a shame that we can only give one thumbs up.
That performance creates a new level of perfection and artistry.
Superb, master Howard!! As a chromatic player, I relate to the mountains of practice and will power it takes to play at such level, with a diatonic.
So beautiful harmonica playing , Mr Howard Levy
Very nice and smooth! Thanks for sharing, Mr. Levy!
As always, such a beautiful rendition.
Soooo beautiful ... Maestry , poetry and imagination. Thank You !!!
Is it just me, or have you gotten way better since filming “New Directions for Harmonica” for Homespun?
Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece Howard. Going to be listening to it a few times.

Sir Howard, AWESOME! I have played trombone since childhood and have recently begun with Blues harp. I sure wish that I could take lessons with you! Tom Ball turned me on to you. I live in Connecticut and love to see you play in person! Thankyou for all of your hard work and sharing your gift. Ken Rogers

Simply wonderful.
I’m so glad that we are both alive 4/22/22. Howard you should label this as the “official video “
Whoever dreamed that you could take your phone and choose from millions of instructional videos from some of the most iconic artists of our time. Are we dreaming??
Howard, I never listen to music but damn you knocked this out of the park!! You are a rare gem brother. We need more people like you. This was jaw dropping brilliant!
Thank you Howard.
This is really insanely good!
Sometimes you make it sound like a real trumpet.
Outstanding!
Exquisite! Thank you Howard!
Yes, it is amazing that he can play this on a diatonic harmonica and he does the very best that can be done with bends and overblows, when necessary. Howard is the master! However, "A for effort" will not make this as sonorous as a similar performance (in the hands/mouth of a skilled player) of one such tune on a chromatic harmonica. As a player of diatonic harmonica myself, I am in awe at Howard's achievements on this instrument. Still, for certain kinds of music, among them classical and jazz, the chromatic is better suited to fill the bill, to make all the notes come alive and breathe fully.
I have always felt that way about banjo (not trad 4 string or bluegrass 5 string) or uke players (sounds great for that instrument,, but hell, just play it on a GUITAR!)
Чудове виконання!
Вітання з України!
