Jesse was ahead of his time. Everybody hated him because he didn't win in the traditional way. But he completely smoked his opponents. They could not stop the funk. One tough dude. I'm sure his creativity is paying dividends in his current career.
Also a great way to tear.an opponents acl/mcl just really tear their knee up. Performing this at high school or middle school level where lower body strength still being developed
Great stuff, the recent danger rules will definitely alter this technique. Was a shame Delgado was so banged up his senior year, could have been a 3-timer.
Gantry Zettler far ankle scrambling is already taking over and far more effective. Delgado was fun to watch, he adapted to the no reaction time rule well I’m sure he could have innovated some stuff with the new danger rule. Would have been cool to see.
Where was this RUclips video when I needed it?! Oh yeah, I’m 62 years old and there was no RUclips back in the day. Anyway you are an excellent instructor!

U just move faster than them. U mirror or follow them. Put your face into their torso . . They’ve put themselves on their back, although if you’ve done nothing if you don’t push up or turn their torso while you follow them you’re on your back. I suppose you have to let go of their leg or move it behind their thigh or back.
Please breakdown Yianni Daliemekis adaptation of funk rolling for Freestyle? I imagine you watched his extremely impressive use of this at best the streets vs a murderers row of competitors.
Phil - the funk roll is definitely a move to experiment with in practice before ever attempting it in a match. Even if it's not a move for you, it is worthwhile to understand the mechanics in the event your opponent does it to you.
I'm not a big scrambler but I once I learned the funk roll it helped me get out of a lot of bad situations. I don't really use a lot of granby rolls but I use the funk roll all the time. I learned it from Jerry Abas at a wrestling camp. In fact I think some people actually call this move the Abas roll because Abas invented it. Most people call it the funk roll though.
Your literally better off using the funk roll in high school cuz there is no neutral danger zone. In college wrestling in the years since Jesse Delgado graduated you can't be on your back from the neutral position for more than 3 seconds or else your opponent will get the takedown points and start getting backs. There is no risk in high school other than pinning yourself l
3:40 - excuse my ignorance but how many points did delgado concede in this sequence? It seems he was nearly pinned but i didn't notice the score change for back exposure?
@@markotocrossento5679 absolutely but few guys are alot more comfortable in uncomfortable positions than good scramblers..Not everybody can do it well for that reason. A good wrestler that is tall lanky also can be frustrating to wrestle because it's like wrestling an octupus.. They throw in legs from anywhere, can hit a cradle from anywhere and on your feet where you got the advantage they can lock in the crotch or grab a leg from anywhere.. You must finish quickly or you're gonna keep ending up in stalemates
what do you do if the opponent just lets go and doesn’t even try to scramble? i have a hard time figuring it out. i can get to the funk roll and a lot of time when i elevate their foot the just stand straight up instead of trying to rescramble. any help would be appreciated
Get to your knees, try a counter shot high crotch finish .. or when wrestlers keep standing up.? Stay low and take thier hips in a body lock to throw or shoot .. standing isn't such a great tactic . Unless u have both wrists and are sitting out during an escape.
Btw .. if buddie who shoots jumps over and takes a head an arm or crossface he done line dinner .. I looked into it and personally it's a lazY last line of defence in my opinion . Watch Carey kolat dunk thw funk video . It's a joke
You can argue it is lazy, but it is certainly effective at even the highest levels. Even if you don't personally employ funk defense, you'll need to understand how it works when your opponent does it to you.
Jump over it's over . If your know how to sprawl properly/ head on mat it won't be needed but I have no problems finishing my shots but it's is very urself setting up a knee bar in bjj or when u are up against joke comp .. I did wrestling judo kempo and BJJ and have never ever had my opp screw me like that . Repeatedly over and over again🤣
But your totally right. if u don't know the offense it's impossible to find the defense. Just like don't shoot a head down double against Dake .. u will fly.. especially if you can't grapevine his legs when they "throw from the back" .

Strong work mate! This is something I have been looking to add to my grappling game for a while now. Great job!
Thanks, Sonny. Would be interesting to see how this movement could be combined with the modern leglock game.
Well done with the text, use of graphics, slow motion, and commentary. This is a text-book study on how to make a high-quality educational video.
Thanks for the feedback.

@@PNW_4runner No doubt that he would have adjusted, agree completely.

Probably everyone he did his funk roll on

That's as good as the funk gets with Jesse
Moreso intended for a BJJ heel hook/ankle/knee submission.. great entry into a reverse knee bar lol
Never been here so early....
Peek a boo yall
God, there is a tornado sweep over there.
Great video
Time to get funky

Can you upload a video of how to establish inside tie “inside control” during a hard handfighting match? Please
Keep fighting. maybe 2 on 1 ?? Take the hand instead of the wrist ? Try two hands pull on oops one?? This question is confusing and somewhat rookie e
idk about this one man seems super risky. You think this would work in a high school level? I will probably at least try it in practice.

This is literally part of all good wrestler's movesets and mat feel.

thankyou

Ahh yes! go Illinois!!!
Hey Dan, have you thought about finishing head hunters or doing another bjj breakdown?
Do you think you could do one of Desantos dumps/fireman’s carry?
Nothing is more frustrating than wrestling a really good scrambler
All though that can be true, nothing will make you feel more accomplished than coming out on top of a good scramble.

How can this be used without risking you own leg for a leg lock in bjj or catch?
It's pretty hard to finish a leg lock if you're controlling your oppenets leg
This makes wrestling look more like bjj
So uhh pull guard
