  • Kyle Dake, widely considered one of the greatest college wrestlers in NCAA history, is a 4x D1 National Champion (a feat only accomplished four times in the sport's history) and the 2013 Hodge Trophy winner (awarded to the most outstanding college wrestler of the year).
Part 1 of this four-part series discusses the concept of "base," and also shows how arm posts can be a useful tool for winning scrambles.

As a high school wrestler who started wrestling late and does not wrestle all year I find this video very helpful. The ankle pick video breakdown you posted was also great. I hope you keep this up and thanks for the great breakdowns of top wrestlers great, if not best, strengths

Another key to winning a scramble is to keep your feet and body on the same side. When your leg is passed and you dont jump to the same side it allows the other guy to get his head higher hence high head wins the scramble.

Fantastic work. Perfect for my son who does wrestling and jiu-jitsu. He's JUST NOW learning that its crucial to have a solid base while scrambling. "You can't wrestle from your knees or your freaking hips, kid!!" Your video series will really reinforce the concept. Thank you for your efforts, bro. Much appreciated.

When Dake got that takedown off of whizzer pressure, and an ankle pick on an opponent who'd gotten in on his leg at 1:03, that was sheer awesomeness!!!

Cool video! Id love to see you do one on snap downs and arm drags from the feet and front cover postions. Another staple in wrestling that applies to jiu jitsu.

As a former basketball player who recently became interested in combat sports. The creativity of a scramble reminds me of driving the lane in basketball.

Nobody ever though Dake would get past Burroughs. And then he falls on his sword 2nd round in Tokyo 11-0. It's hard to believe there are guys out there that much better than Dake! In 2013 Dake was a monster in folkstyle. I guess he just never made the transition to freestyle. Those guys are no joke!
