I'm quickly realizing the Telecaster is the most versatile guitar ever. People need to realize you don't need humbuckers to play rock or even metal. The tele just got a reputation for a twangy sound because that was the first kind of music people played with it when it came out.
Somebody give the guy playing a raise. Great demo. So much better than the usual stuff guys play. I ordered one yesterday. I too think the price is probably too steep but… I’m a sucker for the unique look of it. Hopefully it’s worth it because I almost pumped the brakes completely and got an Orange Jaguar with a humbucker.
It's funny because that toploader bridge is the main reason I'd buy it. Absolutely love everything about the guitar except for the sparkly, pristine blue body. And blue is my favorite color, just doesn't go with the character of the guitar. I'd buy it and put a subdued color lightweight one piece body on it and use that blue flake body for a pretty guitar!
The issue most people haven’t isn’t that MIM Fenders aren’t good quality. This guitar is almost $1,500. Nickel frets, poly finish, MIM. I think it looks and sounds great and wouldn’t mind having one but you have to consider what the standards of the market are at that price point. This guitar should be $1000 max. And no it’s not because I’m “mad I can’t afford it”. The value just isn’t there and I say that as a big J fan and Fender fan.
Agreed and well stated. Nothing wrong with the guitar and I love fender; I only play fender strats but this here is way overpriced. Also wanted to get one and can afford it but comparing specs it doesn’t make sense.
i respect j from deviating from the jazzmaster association. in the most extreme cases, he does seem burdened with it, considering that’s because he does record with telecasters very often.
Have you ever watched a factory vid from the Corona or Ensenada plants? There is not any difference. The guitars coming out of Mexico have been of high quality for a very long time. I have Mexican tele from 1997 I bought new and it is the best playing tele I own out of 5 of them. I may make this one my sixth. Don't let the country of origin stop you from owning what looks to be a great telecaster.

I’ve been seeing a lot of new guitars with artificial wear and aging, and I get the appeal for that aesthetic, but I’d rather put my own wear on a new guitar. I’d only buy a worn one if it was old and and actually used.
Kinda hard to judge the guitars actual worth or usefulness with four stomp boxes on the floor in front of the signal. You might be able to get similar results with a instrument not at this price point.
Ok. I think fender needs to do a "Clarence", keith urban signature telecaster, with the three pickup pickguard, but only the bridge pickup in place....
@@calvinevans6347 it was just average. And the pg scratches up easily. It has less appeal than a Korean made squier.. the bridge single coil is way too weak for mascis like playing. For $1400! Not a chance in hell and I'm a fender guy.
I don't know why not. I bought a $1499 Fender AMERICAN Professional telecaster that I can't stand playing. Want to buy it? It's candy apple red and in mint condition. There is a Limited Edition Fender MIM Lake Placid Blue stratocaster on Reverb that I'd like to own.
I like the Blue sparkle finish, but it'll take more than that and a trashy sounding video to sell this guitar to me. Would it have killed you to let us hear what a Tele sounds like clean, for just a few seconds?

I have a J. Mascis Jazzmaster MIJ that I’d consider trading for the Tele.
The MIJ is worth more. I wouldn’t do it.
Was a Strat believer, but hit 69 yrs... and wisdom moved me to Telecaster.
Why? May I sincerely ask.
I also was a strat guy for 20 years, picked up a tele and was amazed. So many tones from two knobs and a 3 way selector switch.

Versatility and tuning stability.
Who says you can't play hard rock or metal on a Tele? Fender just proved them wrong.

What pedal was homie using? The riff from the intro was righteous
I probably turn the control plate around to put the volume in pinky swell position and it would be my dream Tele!
I dig the color; sounds killer too
Fender needs to make the iconic Jeff Buckley telecaster!
They will have to ask Matt Bellamy if they can borrow it to get all the specs.
That opening riff sounds almost like Billy Corgan.

J Mascis's favourite guitar iirc is his '58 Tele, and most importantly the majority of all leads he's ever played on any record were on that '58 Tele.
