Hi, I’m looking into becoming a COTA and hopefully will be starting school next summer. Although, I do have a question. I was required to shadow some COTA’s and one gentleman I did shadow was super negative about the career telling me how he hates it and how you can’t make a living off of this and that he was getting paid per pt he saw rather than per hour, and this was at a pediatric office. So sometimes only 3 pts will come in for the day and he’d be making little money. I know I would personally love this career, but I would also love to support my family with one job. With that said, is this true? Do offices only pay per pt rather than per hour? This is coming from Arizona
Hi! Nice video. Question, how much math would I be expected to know/use while working as a COTA(I know there's math placement tests before joining most OTA programs, just wondering how much math is actually used in the field)?
@@cotaconnection9400 Hello. Can you describe how you would be using math in the field? What math courses were you required to take before entering the 2-year associate's program and which math courses, if any, did you take as a part of the 2 year associate's program? Thanks!
Hi!I am currently in Cota program and I already hold bachelor degree in nutrition. If I want to become OTR, I can still apply to master even if I have different major?
Hi there. Thank you for making these videos. They are very helpful. Did you needed a specific amount of hours shadowing a OT when applying to the program to be accepted?
I’m 38. With 4 kids n wife and am a cota x 19 yrs exp and see the future of otr having better job security .. with pdpm oct 1st new law Companies will push in snf settings more groups and concurrents. I tried get out snf”s and go to hospital setting at least get to cont treating our pt 1 on 1 ( that is big to me ). But hospital not using cota anymore least in central ca smh ...
I know it is highly dependent on the setting, and I know it's harder to work at a hospital as a COTA (though I have 5 COTA classmates that work in hospitals in TX); however, in WA state, I see FAR less opportunities for COTAs in the hospital setting. That is a big reason I am going OTR right now; I move constantly and I know I do not want to work in a SNF. Are you considering bridging to OTR?
I'm in OT school right now, first semester. It's incredibly hard. Definitely the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Anatomy class is a full time job all on it's own, and then you have 4 other classes 😣😣. How's school going for you?
School is a bit crazy right now for me too (hence why I haven't logged in to here in forever, whoops!). In Anatomy were studying biomechanics, which is something I had no experience in (besides basic common sense biomechanics in real life). The reading work-load is so high too! You have 5 classes right now?! I only have 4.
If you consider the verbage... COTAs assist in providing skilled occupational therapy services/treatment... COTAs are not there as assistants to the therapist or to assist the therapist.. "therapist assistant" makes it sound like you're their secretary..
I love your videos! Super informative. I'm not sure if ill get a response to this but I know in one of your videos you had said you are a military wife and that you lived in Colorado Springs. My husband is getting stationed down in Colorado Springs as well. I was planning on going my last two years to UCCS and I've always wanted to become an OT but the only thing is the closeted OT school I could find in Colorado is at CSU which is almost 3 hours away. I'm not sure if I would even be able to keep up with school and drive that far every day. I saw the OTA program down in Pueblo which isn't as far of a drive but I feel like if I'm going to spend 2 years getting an OTA I should just go to OT school. At the moment it says there aren't any accredited online OT programs. Do you have any recommendations for my situation or possibly any other good majors like this one? I'm truly trying to figure out what to do. My dream is to start up my own equine therapy business. Thank you so much to anyone who reaches out

Good news! You just need basic math skills. I would say you can excel in the field without excellent math skills.
@@cotaconnection9400 That's fantastic. Thanks for you help!

Hey there ! So I read somewhere about pay being lowered either in 2021 or 2027 for cota’s( don’t remember ) is this true ?

@@cotaconnection9400 yes it's awful!!
Why is called Certified Occupational Therapy not Therapist Assistance.
Physical Therapist Assistance

If you are a certified OTR can you still apply for COTA positions??
You have to be licensed in each state, but I am sure you could if you have your COTA license. No one would stop you anyway :)
