    This is good advice - a small matter that's often overlooked by people who think they have a bigger issue. My car door has been making this exact same noise. I just googled this video and then went out to my car door, and tightened up the screw. Instantly my car door is 99% quieter while opening/shutting it. Wasn't the check strap or anything else... just literally a loose screw/pin.

    My wife's car does this all the time, only when I started to question why I noticed when she opens the door (we live on a steep drive) she throws the door open putting massive strain on the check arm and fixing. £10 socket and a word in her ear and all fixed however I feel like this will only happen again as remember her having same issue on other cars and passenger side on mine. Usually this is because it has worked free but remember just sometimes it is down to driver error! :)

    Last week this cracking sound started on my Citroen Cactus and first thoughts were of faults inside the door and some internet searches said the same. Fortunately, I found your video on YT. My bolts to the A pillar were solid but the 2 nuts recessed in the door frame were over a turn loose. They are recessed and not easy to see but a 10 mm socket fed in easily. A 2 minute job - I am so pleased! Thank You.

      Hi Ray, yes indeed. I actually loosened the screws to engineer this problem, but you are quite correct, check all the doors while you're at it. It's a common problem on loads of cars and I have actually known people strip their doors down to change check arms when this was the problem.

    In my mustang, it was the door hinge bushing, a cylindrical part that's around the pivot on the bottom hinge that kept making a loud creak. From what I understand, it's supposed to rotate freely, when brand new, but over time it may become stuck, and the hinge starts filing away at its side. I was troubleshooting something completely different and sprayed all the hinges with silicon spray. It loosened that bushing! And since it's worn and no longer round, it now catches and makes a horrible sound! I put some thick grease around it, and it sort of helps, but it needs to be replaced. So there you go! SN 95 mustang.

  • @wvXvxvXvw
    @wvXvxvXvw 4 месяца назад

    I wish this fixed mine :( Mine is the strap. It's made of steel and has developed a ledge that catches and pops. As far as I can tell, it has to be replaced. Only problem is Isuzu hasn't made my vehicle in 20 years and there are no replacement parts. Every one of these vehicles door straps pop in the front. It does appear that they used the same straps in the front and back, and a lot of the back doors don't pop on these. I'm going to try to put back straps in the front, then I'll let you know if it works. The simplest and cheapest option if to unpin the strap, push it inside the door and then use a piece of nylon band(like a piece of a ratchet strap cord) to attach the door to the pillar. You lose the intermediate catches but at least the pillar won't twist if the door opens too hard. Jeep used this method for decades on the Wrangler.

    What needs to be addressed is the poor design of the friction surface in these check stays. I had a dealer that sold me a ACR30R Previa whose driver's stay failed and I pressed for him to replace it under warranty. The new stay lasted exactly twelve months. Money spinner!
    This design has been around since at least the 1950s and has ALWAYS been cheap-and-cheerful (actually, shocking), and I have owned half-a-dozen cars with it. I put golden syrup on mine for stickness (my stays are tight) rather than spend a fortune replacing them. If the stay makes a cracking noise in the sun, I know the syrup is working. If not, more syrup, lol.
