    Stunning conversion. The only addition I’d have is, blinds or curtains on the back windows next to the bed and the side window for privacy and to avoid folk seeing in at nights when lighting is on inside the van.

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  Год назад +1

      Yeah we have window covers that are suckered on to all the windows which work well. Just ordered some new magnetic ones. Also have since put a curtain across the doors at the back which makes a huge difference.

    We have a 6 meter van with the European layout ( fixed bed with garage underneath ) as we needed space for stuff that the Uk models with rear lounge don’t offer. Your rear lounge and pull out bed would have been perfect for us as it is really easy to set the bed up. We are happy with our set up but it would have been nice to have the option to sit at the rear and just pull the other half of bed out when required. Ours is obviously not a self build but I can’t seen why the big companies don’t adopt this layout as it is genius . If this layout was available off the shelf we would have bought it. All credit to you , lovely van. 👍

    Thinking changing my Renault trafic 2019 lwb premier edition that I've converted
    To one same as yours. Layout I think would be ideal for me. But not sure about bed size. As I would want to put my ebike under the bed. Suppose I could store it width ways though.
    Imagine you shower then at campsites. Which is what I would do. And same with toilet. Only use porta Potti for emergency.
    Have a pee bottle for nighttime

      Thanks for your comments and glad you like the build. We love the ducato and it’s a pleasure to drive. The H2 hasn’t been much of an issue at all other than in busy town centres where you get some height barrier but to be honest those car parks are usually very tight for a 5.5m van!

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  2 года назад

      Hi Dave, if it’s the webasto diesel heater then there’s a little oval shaped control panel to the right of the steering wheel on the dash. There’s a little flame button bottom left. If you press that it starts up. You can change how long it’s on for, default 30 mins.

    What a lovely build! I am currently working in my own Fiat Ducato 2006 van and I am STRUGGELING with the electrical system
    You mentioned having a 200ah lithium battery, and it could serve you 4-5 days without solar panels. According to my calculations (which are probably very wrong) I need a way heavier battery for a same appliances setup.
    My question is, is the refrigerator on gas or 12V?

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you. Glad you like the build. Our fridge is 12v. It’s probably nearer 4 days with fan going, fridge on level 3 of 4, bit of inverter to charge laptops, usb phone charging and heating on and off. Don’t forget things like the fridge only draw current for a proportion of every hour they’re on. So if it draws 6A it’s probably nearer 2AH worth of draw.

    We went with the same sink as you guys. Did yours come with a plug ? If not did you manage to find one that fits ? Our van is just about finished. Your videos have been invaluable so thank you 👍🏻

      Thanks and glad you found the videos helpful. Yeah we got it from Amazon and it came with a plug. It’s not great as the thread size doesn’t match any of the UK plumbing! So going to try a B&Q plug hole but not sure it’ll fit perfectly.

    I am in the process of buying an exactly similar van and converting it during this summer. However, I have not got a rough estimate on how much it would cost. May I kindly ask - if not too personal- how much it would cost for a similar sort of conversion please ? thanks

    Love the tour. We’re doing an l2h2 and you absolutely have to be smart with space. This is one of the better layouts I’ve seen and your finishing is spot on. Where did you get the electromagnetically, that’s such a clever idea. I’m not that far yet but have bought regular catches like your loo one. Loving the idea of electromagnets though if you don’t mind sharing more about that.

      Thank you, pleased you like our layout. It works really well for us so no regrets. The electromagnets are linked on our shopping list at www.ourvanplan.com/products hope that helps 👍🏻

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  2 месяца назад +1

      Mainly to fit on our drive but also for cost as it was a lot cheaper and for usability. Glad we did as it’s worked out well.

      They’re working really well. They were difficult to install as they need to be perfectly aligned when the drawers are shut. But they’ve served us well and keep everything safety locked closed.

    Hi, just watched all your build and I'm absolutely in love with the van. I have a couple of questions as I'm thinking of something similar.
    Do you think the conversion you did would fit in the shorter version at all? The reason I would prefer the short wheelbase is that I'm thinking of living in it full time for a while, so it would be my everyday vehicle. I really want to fit in most normal-sized spaces. Does your van fit in most spaces?
    Another question, do you think what you did would be possible to have done without a driveway? I live in a block of flats and don't have anywhere to potentially park and do it.
    Any tips would be absolutely appreciated. Sending good vibes :)

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the lovely comment. Glad our build has inspired you. Yeah our van fits in most spaces eg supermarket. Bit of an overhang but never has a problem. It’s 5.4m long and is an L2. Most conversations are the L3 which is 6m long. Not sure they do the L1 with a high roof though?
      I think it would have been really difficult to do it without a driveway and garage. I know people have done it in your situation but the sheer amount of stuff needed, tools, the ability to cut huge sheets somewhere outside that’s flat next to the van. I think it’d be a challenge. Maybe there’s somewhere you could rent some space to do it or something like that? Also depends on the build you want to do as I’m sure it can be done in a simpler way than we did. Good luck with it though, it’s a great experience.

      Not worried about it really as we drain the system for winter and either don’t use the van or just time it right/take bottled water.

    Great video. Some questions please - they may sound ignorant but I'm new to this!
    1. Do you only get access to mobile data? How could you get WiFi on these vans? Surely to operate cameras you need more then tethering from your phone?
    2. I've seen some videos with motor homes that have TVs in them. How do they work? Can you get Sky on them?
    Thanks!

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  2 года назад

      Thanks. So the van has a 4G antenna on the roof that connects to a netgear router which gives us wifi in the van powered by the 4G signal. Really reliable and great for cameras or working. I know you can get motorhome 12v TVs but we just use a rechargeable projector which works well. Not sure about sky, I’ve seen some big motorhome with satellite dish but think you’d need full mains hookup to make that work.

    I am a year late to this, so I may never get a response, but can I ask, pls?
    Did you measure the width of the van where your bed is, from the metal sheets where windows would be across? The widest distance?
    I realize it is narrower now with the build done...
    Thank you and many happy miles in your rig

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the message. I can’t recall the full width metal to metal, maybe 2m, but with the walls in place our bed is 1.9m long. I’m 180cm tall and can lay straight across widthways.

    Love your van ! - the end result is amazing you must be very proud of it. Thanks for the extremely detailed videos - they have really helped me. I am planning my own L2 build and like you I’ve been through many different floor plans. I wonder if you could help me answer something that is bugging me? The load dimensions of the L2 are supposed to be 312cm but I’m worried that you don’t actually get that length. If I look at your videos I estimate from where the bulkhead would be to the other side of your kitchen is 150cm plus say 144cm for your bed and frame makes 294cm which means I’ve lost about 18cm! Which is crucial on a van of this size. Any clue to where I’m going wrong would be much appreciated.

    Hi, I've seen few Ducato conversions where the rear springs have been uprated from single leaf to double leaf or swapping the bump stops for air assisted ones. Did you feel the need to do this? Ron

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  Год назад +1

      Hi Ron, yeah we tried sumo springs initially (beefier bump stops) but while they stabilised the ride they didn’t help with the smoothness of the ride. So in the end we upgraded to dual leaf rear springs and they make a huge deal of difference. Very glad we invested in those.

    • @RonChestnut
      @RonChestnut Год назад

      Hi again and thanks for taking the time to answer.
      What made you think to upgrade the suspension in the first place. Was it for a smoother ride or was it that the rear end was sagging a bit?
      I'll probably do one or the other but I'm trying to find out in advance what the benefit is and which one is best for us. Ron@@OurVanPlan

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  Год назад +1

      Yeah basically the factory ones were flat so there was no bounce to smooth out the bumpy roads. This means the van was noisy inside when driving and wasn’t good longer term. Now we have clearance and a much smoother ride. We have quite a heavy build so if you went super light you probably wouldn’t need it. Think ours is around 3 tons.

    Well done lads that's an impressive conversion. I'm particularly interested in the Votronic battery to battery charger as I hadn't heard of that before. Did you fit that yourself? was it straightforward and does the cable run inside the van or outside underneath? I am just planning on a fridge, 2 lights and 2 usb's and never using hook up and was wondering if this would work for me instead of solar. How has it worked for you? Sorry for all the questions!!!

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  Год назад

      Yeah it’s a great bit of kit. I installed myself. Relatively easy but we did have the converter socket on our van in the driver door pillar. This gives access to 12v feed from van battery plus the D+ signal which you use to determine when the ignition is on. I then ran the wiring inside the van under the kitchen to the Votronic box. It’s a 30 amp charger so does reasonably well. An hour of driving gives 30AH obviously and that’s good to keep it topped up. We normally move on quite a lot so haven’t missed solar at all. Only issue might be if you do 2 weeks on a site in one place without electric.

  • @RonChestnut

    Hi,
    Very good conversion and you've explained it well. We're just starting out converting a Ducato MH2 so your videos are a great help and inspiration.
    One question, I see that you have swapped the 15" wheels for 16" ones.
    Does this affect the speedo reading much, the vehicle gearing and did you have to register this with the DVLA.
    Cheers Ron

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  Год назад

      Thanks for your message. The wheels didn’t require any calibration of the Speedo nor impacted gearing. The Speedo is now spot on so you have to remember that - 50 is 50 now! Otherwise no issues and nothing with DVLA.

    Hi, lovely van build and great attention to detail. It looks solid internally, but I must ask the question. What is the total Payload of the van, to include full tank of fuel, water, partner and all accessories. I know MWB vans have less payload and the amount of heavy timber used for supports, it may be worth going to a weigh bridge. Otherwise great build! 👍

    • @OurVanPlan
      @OurVanPlan  Год назад +1

      Thanks Dean. It’s the same as the L3 version and we did take it to a weigh bridge and it’s just under 3 tons. So heavy but not scraping the top end of the max.
