I honestly just about forgot how I stumbled across your channel just a couple of minutes ago, but I definitely enjoy your content. I can tell that you don't have the best of audio, or a background environment, but the fact that you were still able to keep me as well as many, many other people entertained through your personality and editing skills has earned you a sub, and a long term viewer. Keep it up man, I mean it.
When I used to write business software on an Apple II (yes it was a very long time ago) we put a rubber washer under the reset key to prevent accidentally pressing it. So for that purpose a very heavy key spring makes sense.
Here's the funny thing: for me at least I prefer to use Reds for typing over other supposedly more "typist-oriented" switches, like Blues or even Browns. In fact I'm using a Gateron Red Switch keyboard right now, even though I don't game on my computer a lot. If you typed on an old-school, early-20th century typewriter, you will realise that their feel is more akin to a Red or Black switch than Blue or Brown. In fact I could describe them as rather heavy Reds or Blacks, that only actuate when fully bottomed-out.
eXAKR I personally hate typing on linear switches, but gaming on them is pretty nice. I use tactile switches because they’re way better for typing for me and they’re good enough for gaming (not as nice as linears, but they get the job done and don’t feel like they’re making me worse at the game). Clicky switches can fuck off, I don’t need my whole neighbourhood knowing I have an essay due in 3 hours
@@EonityLuna yeah same, to me tactile switches have always sort of felt like nicer membrane switches with more travel, whereas the completely smooth feeling of linears is something i absolutely love while typing.

@@Glarses As for the smoothness getting better, It's just like how tactiles are way more tactile at lower weights. Something to do with coefficient of friction increasing/decreasing as the force goes higher/lower

This is the superb content on mechanical keyboards that I have been waiting for, looking to build my first custom and these videos are really educational in the -addicting- nature of the hobby. btw just discovered your channel a few minutes ago, loving it
About to switch out my 78g zealious v2 with 150g springs and I've never been this excited! Love the channel dude, your brand of humor is top tier I tell you, keep up the awesome work man!
I think that the Idea behind the original Super Blacks was to make a keyboard that would feel natural to people who were used to using old school typewriters, where every actuation had to move a rather complex and heavy mechanism.
when playing fps games, I would usually use all of my five fingers to move in-game. So that would be around 600g of sustained weight on my hands. That would really make my hands really chonky with all those muscles building up.
Just added 150g springs to my Keychron K8 aluminum frame kb with Gateron Browns. I guess they’re “super browns” now? They’re stiff as all get-out but feels great in use! It’s nearly impossible to type a letter by mistake. You can rest your fingers on the keys without actuating the key which is surprisingly reassuring. It reminds me of typing on an old school mechanical typewriter. The Keychron has a high quality & solid “thock” sound when typing. Also I put Gateron blacks on the Mac Command Key and left shift key because when I press a two key combo like “CMD-C” it’s a little difficult when both keys are so heavy. I found it makes it much better to have a couple of keys with a normal spring and the rest with heavy ones. A true custom keyboard!
Bro... When I started looking at mechanical keyboards I thought I was going down a rabbit hole, a dark, lonely rabbit hole. Then I started looking at keyboard reviews and came across your channel. *Ahh, yes... my favorite type of switch... with that ohh, so distinctive Clack sound... the "Mr. Krabs Keyboard"... it LITERALLY sounds like Mr. Krabs walking...*
If you use a more powerful spring when the switch slides up, a louder knock is heard because the spring pushes the switch with more force. But at the same time, the sound of the shock becomes quieter, because the spring is elastic. And if you use a weaker spring, then when the switch slides up, a quieter knock is heard, because the spring pushes the switch weaker up. But at the same time, the impact sound becomes louder because the spring is less elastic (and to remove the impact sound, it is necessary to put rubber rings on the keycap).
I was also thinking about trying this just for fun when I saw 150G springs available. I've actually been really liking light springs, though. I always liked the gateron clears, and have been putting 35g springs into a few other switches to try them out, and they're great. I'm currently typing this on a board I made last night with some gateron silent blacks that I swapped to 35g springs. It's pretty great. I think the main thing you might run into going _super_ light is that at some point, the stabilized keys might start giving you trouble. On one of my boards with clears, I over-lubed the stabilizers a little, and some grease got on the PCB, and it's enough that the flat bottom of the stabilizer sticks well enough to hold the key down for a second after you release it. Removing it and wiping the excess away fixed it, but I could see some lower quality stabilizers potentially adding enough drag to make the keys stick.

If you use a more powerful spring when the switch slides up, a louder knock is heard because the spring pushes the switch with more force. But at the same time, the sound of the shock becomes quieter, because the spring is elastic.

But at the same time, the impact sound becomes louder because the spring is less elastic (and to remove the impact sound, it is necessary to put rubber rings on the keycap).
