I was on the edge and I think I’ll just get a steam deck oled, I use my ps5 for main gaming and just really want something to play indies from steam and older games, cheaper and such
Out of all of them I think the Steam Deck is going to be the better investment. Valve pushes so many updates and even goes out of their way to fix games that aren’t playing correctly. It’s also an easy entry point and cheaper for console players that want to get their feet wet. It was my own gateway into PC gaming. I have all 3 and each one has their advantages, but I still find myself going back to the deck when I want to get in and get out fast on lunch or work breaks. Oh yeah, I also found it funny that the Legion Go feels more comfy with the joycons removed. I just wish I didn’t feel like I was going to break something putting them on and taking them off lol😂. Anyways, another great video as always! Take care.
Yeah I'd be worried about long term support. Valve has a long term interest in SD since they make money off you buying games. Lenovo and Asus don't really have much incentive to provide long term support since they really only make money when you buy a new device. I really like the screen size on the Legion go, but I will wait to see how much support the software and drivers get first.
I always felt like my steam deck is a bit laggy and just not snappy in the menus. Does the ally and/or Go feel snappier outside of games? Even my deck powering on from sleep seemed like it took 3-5 seconds.
Valve also sits on their hardware for a reeeeeal long time. Oled sd was the exception, not the norm. Look at the steam controller and valve index, still the same product.
Just got mine, love it. Battery could be a lot better. But it’s got a fast charge time. All and all great experience. Can whip out gta on the train or at work etc. great feeling
I had a steam deck for a year… ditched it for an Ally and not looked back since… all I keep hearing is that the go doesn’t have VRR - can someone explain how much of a difference it’s makes NOT having VRR, as I love the screen size of the go but don’t want a downgraded experience.. thanks
Okay so what variable refresh rate does is when the frame rate is lower than the max and higher than the minimum that vrr allow it would take the refresh rate and drop it down to match the frame rate so it's not waiting for a frame from the computer and it's not just wasting refresh cycles in causing the game to feel studdery and vrr helps smooth out gameplay more then having a high refresh rate does at these lower fps targets, yea 144 hrzt screen is nicer then 120 but you won't be hitting those fps is many games and the smoother around 60 experience the Allies vrr screen allows feels much better for a hand held!
I have both an yes the games feel a lot smoother on the ally and at lower tdp higher settings On the ally I can play a game at high settings at unstable 48fps but it doesn’t matter because it feels smoother On the go I have to lower all settings and turn up the tdp to get a stable 60 and with the low resolution everything looks and feels horrible on AAA games. The big screen on go is perfect for indie games for now until they fix it, also the speakers are TRASH.
Seeing how big the performance gap is compared to the switch, I'm scared the switch 2 won't deliver. Especially if they use another Nvidia chip instead of AMD.
You can swap the menu / function keys in legion space, it is a toggle switch. FX Sound adds too much latency. You can just use the Realtek Audio Console and achieve the same volume with 0 latency and clearer sound while also saving the battery by not having FX sound processing auidio.
As an owner of the first gen SD I personally think the OLED is great but the Deck was already starting to show its age with newer double and triple As in performance. I was loving it until act 3 of BG3 where performance tanked. I would love something with an OLED but with much better sustained performance. I'm keeping my eyes on the Go since many reviewers have said it has the a terrific screen for being LCD but Best Buy's sale for the Alley is also got my attention.
Well said and thought out - I'm getting the Go on top of my SD. Some of my friends cannot wait and went with Ally and most of them are regretting this choice. Most of the problems with Go are software related which can be fixed later (Lenovo, you better!) - even the speakers!
Not going to lie, the launch was pretty atrocious and getting to work properly was a pain. But once you run windows update and manually update the AMD drivers, it runs like a dream. The only isssue I have is the dead area with the joysticks, but that's hopefully going to be fixed soon.
I have all 3 mainstream handhelds none of them feel as good as the Steam Deck. But, I like the optimization on the Rog Ally sound stage, and VRR display games just feel smoother. The large screen on my Go is also pretty nice few more major patches I might make it my daily driver but, at the moment that goes to the Ally.
Just as another option you can play a gaming laptop with a controller. It's the same laid back experience with much improved fps and since it has to be plugged in the portability is nearly the same.
I would be interested in seeing a comparison (joycons / controllers on and off the Lenovo) between the Lenovo Legion Go and an iPad Pro 11 inch. Yes, the Lenovo is a handheld gaming machine, but could it replace my iPad in uses like, emails, web-browsing, Clash of Clans, Photo and Video editing, Social Media browsing, and other uses that I have for my iPad Pro? This thought came to me when I saw you browsing the internet on the Lenovo without the controllers attached. My iPad Pro cost more than the Lenovo Legion Go, so could I swap them or am I too sold on IOS and the way my iPad just works? I’m certain the iPad’s battery life will smash the Lenovo.
I had two Lenovo Yoga laptops before and both are dead. So that kinda sways me from any Lenovo products. But the Go seems cool. I think I may get a Rog Z1Extreme though
YOOO i had the same issue when i had my legion i7 RTX 3060, and in my country, lenovo is a well-known and reputable company, nonetheless they couldn’t do anything for my laptop because they couldn’t get the spare parts which they should’ve had:)
@@nolifezay4636 well that not an easy choice, I like the screen, battery and weight of the SD Oled (I had a classic SD before) and I’m mostly playing Indy / rogue like games But I like the fps mode and the perf of the legion
Ha, yeah ! I mention it at 5:47. Because the pad is still so surprisingly responsive with it on, I let it be for now. Hoping to find a textured protective skin (as with the Deck) before I remove it.
The screen size and being detachable will really extend sessions for pure comfort alone. My switch light gets a lot less play time then my OG switch because I have a less options. Looks like the best of the bunch in its current state 👍👍
The three rings on the power button could be done like. First third flashes when filling solid 133 percent full than second one flashes while charging and solid 66 % full ect. For uploads it could just do a rotating pattern add a different color from the charging colors
4:56 slight misinformation there... both buttons on top on steam deck are start buttons and brings you to the in game main menu ... the bottom buttons are only for steam OS features.
ROG Ally seems superior for me still on the go. This Lenovo is too big for me -- mostly I game on the Ally when I travel out of town or need a break from the room my desktop is in for a change of scenery, otherwise I'd just game on my desktop PC. Weight, size and not being too cumbersome are important for me and at this Lenovo Go size and price I'd rather consider gaming laptops instead.
It's ironic how everyone is bashing any handled with bugs, but SteamOS is is full of bugs. It's better now ,but man wad SteamOS/Linux a mess at launch.
For the speaker issue . I use a neckband Bluetooth speaker (sony sn7) awsome experience. That way ypu dont always have to have something in or on ypur ear to get some proper sound
Wished legion go had Rog ally’s D-pad. That would’ve been sweet. After a few months once Lenovo gets their shit together legion go should be much better.
I’m not even remotely interested in the OLED SD because it’s the same aging GPU and the SAME screen resolution under a pretty dress up refresh. It cannot come close to playing new games the way the Go can, cannot be a do it all windows pc, so it is useless for my needs. The Ally with it’s 50 cent rinky dinky plastic “kickstand” and no carrying case also is a huge turn off. They are incompetent at designing their own device! The sd disaster is proof of this. It can’t be fixed because it’s the chip thing that’s too close to the heat sink, so people have to keep sending it back. That is embarrassing and ridiculous!! No thanks!! The Go is the only one I’m interested in!!
Too many handhelds!! Great content, btw. Having so many, do you see enough difference between one Windows handheld and the other to justify the average Joe buying more than one? The Deck, The Switch, and one Windows device I can see. But I'm curious about your experience with the multiple Windows devices.
Switch is mostly limited to nintendo IP. It can’t also run games with higher graphics SD doesn’t run games outside of steam unless modded. There are also steam games that are not compatible to SD. Windows devices feels more like a portable PC than a gaming console because of the UI.
The removable controls makes the legeon go the most compelling product out of the 3 to me. I would be very salty spending 500 to 700 dollars for a mobile gaming pc just to pick up stick drift.
Lenovo will sell you specs and gimmicks but won't optimise any further... kinda sad at the lost potential of this device. If it had better software optimizations(bare-bones legion go and better cpu voltage curve), VRR and better trackpad it would be a great alterntive
@@nolifezay4636 For now im maining the Ally, maybe in the future the Legion. Mainly because the speakers on the Legion suck and sometimes games feel significantly smoother on the Ally (maybe because of VRR? not entirely sure why). Definitely prefer the legion over the steamdeck though.
Thanks for the video man! For me, I’m a dad and so far only played on Xbox , I want to play MW3 (and maybe games like God of war, red dead redemption) but not use our TV so I can still sit with my wife and kid So if I don’t bother much about playing on the go or playing certain other games, would you recommend the Lenovo or the Steam deck OLED for that purpose? I just ordered the Steam deck 1TB OLED but after understanding that it might be an issue to play MW3 On the Steam deck due to anti cheat , I’m thinking about getting the Lenovo instead Any input is highly appreciated
It literally just launched and you expect a finished product? The SD was a hot mess when it was new and so was the Ally but many many, MANY updates later, they are so much more improved! New tech needs time to improve, people have short memories.
as long as lenovo wont release significant updates for software as ally already have its not good idea to use. rog ally pulls ahead with better software while steam still have best one except linux and more or less console only. but lenovo had actually released their handheld too soon. at this moment its not ready. i do believe that in 3 months or so lenovo can go neck to neck with rog ally if they actually start working on it, but for now its kinda sorta cyberpunk 2077 version 1.01 even after few small fixes that already came.
I don’t like the Go because of it’s size, weight and it’s very bad software and also nor VRR but I like detachable controllers and 2 USB-C 4 which should works fine with eGPU. I have the Ally and I will keep it till the next version APUs comes out and more new handheld from other companies comes out to the market and then I will decide what I will get next.

@@gulfcoaster210 lmfao yep and no vrr but its only a big deal when its Lenovo because they sniff gabbens asshole
Performance is useless it will hardly able to last hour and none of them have ideal gaming experience For demanding games compared to laptops anyways@@gulfcoaster210
That APU is garbage at 1.2 TeraFlops.... piss water performance
I wish they sold joycons with separate button placement
I love your review, just subbed. You do an amazing job and one aspect on your review that you do top notch is when discussing any particular issue, you seem to have done enough research to inform your audience of possible workarounds until Lenovo possibly looks to patch things up in the future. Looking forward to watching other content you posted and do post in the future!
I was on the edge and I think I’ll just get a steam deck oled, I use my ps5 for main gaming and just really want something to play indies from steam and older games, cheaper and such
Next year's Ally and Go are gonna be so damn awesome when they get OLED. I'm this -->
Out of all of them I think the Steam Deck is going to be the better investment.
5 seconds in and the game you choose to show footage of us Maximum Carnage? You’re a fucking boss.
Time for MS to develop windows game edition an ARM version, a game console like this with an equivalent of an Apple M3 chip would be wild
I had a steam deck for a year… ditched it for an Ally and not looked back since… all I keep hearing is that the go doesn’t have VRR - can someone explain how much of a difference it’s makes NOT having VRR, as I love the screen size of the go but don’t want a downgraded experience.. thanks
Yea I was wondering the same thing. Some people make it seem critical. Would be nice to know from a user experience if it really matters that much
Agreed
I have both an yes the games feel a lot smoother on the ally and at lower tdp higher settings
On the ally I can play a game at high settings at unstable 48fps but it doesn’t matter because it feels smoother
On the go I have to lower all settings and turn up the tdp to get a stable 60 and with the low resolution everything looks and feels horrible on AAA games.
The big screen on go is perfect for indie games for now until they fix it, also the speakers are TRASH.
@@somerandomhuman8405 do you think the OLED Stem deck will do any better?? Emulating that is
Seeing how big the performance gap is compared to the switch, I'm scared the switch 2 won't deliver. Especially if they use another Nvidia chip instead of AMD.
with the prices of gpus the last couple years, i can see handheld pcs being the go to system for many many people
You can swap the menu / function keys in legion space, it is a toggle switch.
That game never should have been verified.
Well said and thought out - I'm getting the Go on top of my SD. Some of my friends cannot wait and went with Ally and most of them are regretting this choice. Most of the problems with Go are software related which can be fixed later (Lenovo, you better!) - even the speakers!
Display isn't great 800p looks choppy and blurry
@@redrag0n_the legion go has QHD 16:10 display
Wow, that was such a sincere sponsor introduction
Not going to lie, the launch was pretty atrocious and getting to work properly was a pain. But once you run windows update and manually update the AMD drivers, it runs like a dream. The only isssue I have is the dead area with the joysticks, but that's hopefully going to be fixed soon.
Fix your dead zone within steam, unfortunately cant do that with xbox app
After market custom joycons would be sweet
I have all 3 mainstream handhelds none of them feel as good as the Steam Deck. But, I like the optimization on the Rog Ally sound stage, and VRR display games just feel smoother. The large screen on my Go is also pretty nice few more major patches I might make it my daily driver but, at the moment that goes to the Ally.
The majority of rog players do not even have VRR/freesync turned on in adrenalin. Moot
@@SiliconDrifter wat
Great video man, may pull the trigger on a handheld soon. And fantastic quality on your vids
So did you end up getting one?
@@eternalfaeri1415 I got a gaming PC instead but this is still on the radar lol

@@jimmyharrison5411 damn, that’s pretty sweet! Enjoy it!
You know what's funny. I went from steam deck to ally to lenovo, but keeping my switch.
Just as another option you can play a gaming laptop with a controller. It's the same laid back experience with much improved fps and since it has to be plugged in the portability is nearly the same.
I just tried the Ally yesterday at Best Buy and man that thing is huge! I can only imagine the Legion Go lol. Might be too big for me.
I had a rog (died) for 3 months but it made me miss my steam deck now I have a lg I would never go back.
Great review. Great voice. Subscribed.
*What is the best* ???🔥
It’s really hard to chose between legion go and steamdeck Oled for me
Legion go right?
@@nolifezay4636 well that not an easy choice, I like the screen, battery and weight of the SD Oled (I had a classic SD before) and I’m mostly playing Indy / rogue like games
But I like the fps mode and the perf of the legion
800p for newer games with fsr seems to do well for this device and maybe on some older games 1440p ultra could be achieved
Great vid! But it looks like you haven't taken off the protective sticker from your trackpad 😅
Ha, yeah ! I mention it at 5:47. Because the pad is still so surprisingly responsive with it on, I let it be for now. Hoping to find a textured protective skin (as with the Deck) before I remove it.
All I gotta say after watching you talk about the grip on the legion Go is that your hands are huge.
I really don't understand anybody who reviews these handhelds don't cover the most important factor... BATTERY LIFE?????
What thumbgrips are you using here? are they the skull & co for xbox or steamdeck? Thanks!
Thanks for a great review m8! Like & subscribe, go on!
You know the ergonomics are horrible when a reviewer gives you instructions on how to hold the device
these are interesting times, love it
The screen size and being detachable will really extend sessions for pure comfort alone. My switch light gets a lot less play time then my OG switch because I have a less options. Looks like the best of the bunch in its current state 👍👍
do you play the switch a lot detached though?
The three rings on the power button could be done like. First third flashes when filling solid 133 percent full than second one flashes while charging and solid 66 % full ect. For uploads it could just do a rotating pattern add a different color from the charging colors
4:56 slight misinformation there... both buttons on top on steam deck are start buttons and brings you to the in game main menu ... the bottom buttons are only for steam OS features.
Ima wait for V2. I feel like they could improve lots of small things
You have a very soothing voice, lol. Good video.
Yeah I'm not holding a device a certain way so my hand doesn't go numb. If I can't just grab it and use it.. it's a bad design.
Agree on fx sound. Almost double the sound with fx sound.
Clicked for the info, stayed for the big brained explanations of the details.
Nice. I'll check that out. Thanks.
Ok. 299 euros. Dam lol
@joeyxl3456 yeah have to get it on sale.
I share the same sentiment
*Laughs in non burned out Ally SD Card SLOT*
I hope they see this video or the feedback because some of these software exemptions are baffling
It can’t also run games with higher graphics
SD doesn’t run games outside of steam unless modded.
The trackpad has right click, just keep pressing for 3 seconds.
I really don’t know I will probably just keep my steam deck LCD and that’s it
Lenovo will sell you specs and gimmicks but won't optimise any further... kinda sad at the lost potential of this device.
If it had better software optimizations(bare-bones legion go and better cpu voltage curve), VRR and better trackpad it would be a great alterntive
Software will mature, look at rog ally. No one really cared or even turned on VRR/freesync in adrenalin except the hardcore
Revelations 😂 Im also an owner of all 3 no big deal. The Legions screen is the big deal and wins hands down.
So legion go ftw?
@@nolifezay4636 For now im maining the Ally, maybe in the future the Legion. Mainly because the speakers on the Legion suck and sometimes games feel significantly smoother on the Ally (maybe because of VRR? not entirely sure why). Definitely prefer the legion over the steamdeck though.
Thanks for the video man!
For me, I’m a dad and so far only played on Xbox , I want to play MW3 (and maybe games like God of war, red dead redemption) but not use our TV so I can still sit with my wife and kid
So if I don’t bother much about playing on the go or playing certain other games, would you recommend the Lenovo or the Steam deck OLED for that purpose?
I just ordered the Steam deck 1TB OLED but after understanding that it might be an issue to play MW3 On the Steam deck due to anti cheat , I’m thinking about getting the Lenovo instead
Any input is highly appreciated
It looks to me like you still have the sticker on your touchpad.
Ridiculous we shouldn’t need a tutorial on how to hold a handheld, the more I watch this war of handhelds the more I see the SD is the best
Battery life and noise is the most important thing!
which is noisier? Between the 3?
@@TheLoneViper Havent tested the Legion yet on noise but the Ally is quieter than the Deck.
I had the Rog ally I've sent it back and getting the lenovo legion go .. my Rog after 10 mins my ally was absolutely red hot and fried a SD card
Anybody put Retrobat on their GO? How is the performance? Hope to install soon….
It literally just launched and you expect a finished product? The SD was a hot mess when it was new and so was the Ally but many many, MANY updates later, they are so much more improved! New tech needs time to improve, people have short memories.
I am looking for GPD win mini with better hand grips. Steam deck or Legion go + screen protecting case are too big to carry.
as long as lenovo wont release significant updates for software as ally already have its not good idea to use. rog ally pulls ahead with better software while steam still have best one except linux and more or less console only. but lenovo had actually released their handheld too soon. at this moment its not ready. i do believe that in 3 months or so lenovo can go neck to neck with rog ally if they actually start working on it, but for now its kinda sorta cyberpunk 2077 version 1.01 even after few small fixes that already came.
I just got one but my games are so laggy I have Spider-Man miles morales and it’s choppy do you have a video or teach me how to optimize it?
I don’t like the Go because of it’s size, weight and it’s very bad software and also nor VRR but I like detachable controllers and 2 USB-C 4 which should works fine with eGPU. I have the Ally and I will keep it till the next version APUs comes out and more new handheld from other companies comes out to the market and then I will decide what I will get next.
I had mine for 24 hours and I still have not played a game on it before all the issues
I want to see this exceed a lot to own it for a windows handheld!
how is the rumble motor in the legion go?
i own a Rog ally and they feel and sound a bit wierd than what i am used to curious if its same like the legion go
They should offer a Steam Deck layed out joycon alternative
Sounds like the ergonomics suck if you need a tutorial on how to hold the thing 😭
So do you have to download games to the device if I want to play ps5 games? And I have to be on WiFi? Like can I play this on the go?
My gripe is still the battery life… apart from that it is awesome
