  • Arturo Toscanini conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra in apparently his earliest recorded performance of "LA MER" by Claude Debussy. This live performance (the audience coughing makes this obvious) was held on June 12, 1935, in the sonically splendid Queen's Hall that was later destroyed during World War II.
The analog source was digitally transferred with applied Magix audio software to enhance the sonic data without adding false reverb or artificial ambiance. The film images date from 1911 and are courtesy of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema.

Finally I hear this as intended, instead of that horrible "restored" version by
Itapirkanmaa2. Thank you so much for posting!!!!! Now I really hear the maestro.

@@briannovak-mcsweeney9109 Yes. EVERYONE with even a slight interest in music should read this book. He's also a very nice person. Toscanini has always been my preferred conductor for most things. His La Mer is all the more amazing as he was one of the first conductors who really understood the work's true greatness.
