  • World famous Pinks Hot Dogs in Hollywood, California. Voted best hot dog in California by People Magazine.
    History
    Pink’s Hot Dogs, Inc., a Hollywood landmark since 1939, this hot dog stand serves over 2000 hot dogs and 200 hamburgers a day. Pink’s was started in 1939 by Richard’s parents, Paul and Betty Pink, with a pushcart they purchased for $50, with money they borrowed from Betty’s mother. The land on which the pushcart stood was leased by Paul and Betty for $15 per month. Hot dogs at that time were 10 cents and cokes were a nickel. Pink’s offered curb service, and was lucky to sell 100 hot dogs a day.
    In 1941, the landlord raised their rent from $15 to $25 per month, a 67% increase, and Paul and Betty were forced to either give up or find a way to acquire the property. Paul and Betty, with little collateral but lots of conviction in the potential success of their hot dog stand, convinced Bank of America to loan them $4,000 to purchase the land, which fortunately the landlord was willing to sell.
    At that time, Paul and Betty scraped together enough savings to build the small hot dog stand building that sits near the corner of La Brea and Melrose today. The location included parking for about 25 cars and eventually the indoor and patio seating expanded to accommodate 80 customers.

    Pink’s was on my list when I visited Los Angeles in 2019, but never got round to it. This video really made me want to check it out next time I’m in LA! Really good, informative review

    I have been to the Pinks in the Philippines, same great dogs, but you must pass heavily armed guards to enter the building where they are located. Pinks also has great tamales. As I was born in L.A. in 1949, I am a very lucky fellow.

      I didn't realize they expanded that far. That's awesome! Glad they can maintain consistency in the hot dogs.
      Also that's crazy about the guards. I'm thinking it's probably in an upscale neighborhood? Makati maybe?

    If a person’s initial review of the vegan dog is that “It sucks”, I don’t understand how she would like it two days later. 😎

      LOL, I think I wrote "later on...". I asked her afterwards what she really thought as she was trying to be funny. She's not big on hot dogs, so now I want to go back and try the vegan dog to get the real scoop. Looks pretty good tbf

    I am a native angeleno and Pinks is way overrated. The hot dogs are on par with Weinetschnitzel. Gross. You can get a far better hot dog at Costco for far less.
    Philllipe's is another overrated tourist trap.

    • @primetraveltime
      @primetraveltime  2 дня назад

      Probably, but I wouldn't say it's the worst hotdog in the world like someone else stated 😂 I'd say it's worth going for the experience and it's fame. The onion rings were actually pretty disappointing though.

      @MH-zg5yw 2 дня назад +1

      @@primetraveltime Good onion rings are hard to come by in LA.
      Tops in Pasadena on Walnut used to have really good onion rings.
      Habit Burger surprisingly has good onion rings

      @MH-zg5yw Habit Burger is one of the best places. Consistently ranks at the top of fast food / casual dining places in LA. Never been disappointed there
