Even though I wasn't a big fan of this record, congratulations to the band for debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top 200. Boarding House Reach did as well, if I remember correctly. I think it's really nice that every once in awhile, even if it's not something I'm personally that into, a rock record or experimental rock record will get some true attention. Was surprised to see Raconteurs appear at #1 but they deserve it! Nice to see you review it. :)
Jack White is notorious for having a very strict recording process, which is why I think this album kinda fails. From what is gathered through interviews, it seems like recording this album was a very laid back process. They recorded enough songs to release several albums which means they probably weren't putting much care into each individual track.

Your eloquence and amazing music knowledge I think is a deterrence. Your knowledge becomes its own speed bump and its ability to think how the common listener would listen to music. Of course you're right almost all the time in a way that only a music review expert or expert in music can understand. I don't think or I think you think that you're able to appreciate common people's listening to music and the fact that they don't think of things quite as deeply or if they do they don't catch the nuances and because of that you blow things apart in this particular album I could care less about but I can understand why somebody would absolutely love it.

I get what you mean about “Now that you’re gone” sounding pathetic, but I think that’s kind of the point. It’s a genuinely open and honest, heartbroken reaction to a break up. “Where you gonna go, not that I care” and then turning around and saying “never known such unhappiness”. If you’ve been dumped, you’ve probably been there. I don’t think it comes from a place of insecurity, that’s just the way people are.
