Men are supposed to marry women younger than them because young women are easier to edify. You obviously picked the wrong man but relationships are reflective, were you the perfect wife? I think people need to stop blaming others for their misfortunes and start being more introspective.

Very good and informative documentary. Another side of this is the Gambian women, many are abandoned by their husbands for a European older woman. And it is a disaster for a woman with children in such a poor country. I've tried to find the documentary I have seen on this issue to link here, but I can't find it. I want to thank the journalist for the way he meets people.
Do y’all actually believe that those men abandon their women they get that money from those white women and share it with their families they just lying saying that they are not
This is not true, I am Gambian and I can tell you that they not abandon there Gambian wife’s, the men have several relationships at the same time, and most of the time the Gambian woman knows about the white women, they are glad that the chance of money exists, besides that can Muslim men have up to four wives.
Thanks for the information. I'm glad to hear that. I saw a documentary about that many men leaving their wives for older European women and that's the only reference I have. I have been trying to find the documentary but it has been impossible so far.
Or I wonder how many men try to keep their original family as a "side" family after connecting with a European. Devastating, as you said, for the original family.
This kind of thing doesn't just happen in The Gambia it happens here also and it really doesn't matter how old you are I was in my thirties and my husband was 10 years older than me and he left me for a younger woman it happens all over it's the times we're living in
I really wish they had included the perspective of local Gambian women. Do they feel like the dating pool has been severely restricted or do they feel lucky that it now excludes a very specific type of man that they may not be interested in? In what other ways does this phenomenon impact the local dating pool? So interesting.
The women are benefitting. These dudes probably have a wife or two and a passel of children…children are such and important part of the culture. few if any Gambian men will forgo children to marry a post menopausal, overweight, lonely crone…but I guess everyone is getting what he or she is seeking.
I would imagine all the younger good looking ones are probably out looking for sugar mommas rather than date a broke local woman like that one guy said in the intro.

Every relationship is "transactional" we are just so egocentric to admit it but it is what it is. We rely on each other and thats facts. I love the documentary, the host is amazing
A transaction happens from abundance, that's the problem here. The transaction is happening from scarcity so its not genuine, it borders on exploitation.
So the 85-year-old woman who is footing the money to build his dream home, will not live too many years to enjoy the house, and as he said, she will die in his arms, from old age. Then he can continue his life as he wants to because he is much younger.
Do you want him to die with her? Alternatively, she could take her money and give it to the one of those places for the old and live a depressed life but eitherway she would leave her wealth behind. Didn't you hear her say she is living a second life?
As long as she's happy alternatively many elderly die unhappy in nursing homes & donate their money to corporate charities.... its the same thing here she's making a difference in another person's life however she wants .
IDIOTS like all AFRICA OLD WHITE WOMEN are recruiting BLACK MEN and ther BLACK SISTERS to Inter-Marry with their own SONS&DAUGHTERS in the future. This is a very fascinating documentary. I witnessed my MIL at 78 years old, lonely, get scammed from romance scammers for over $50k. It was heartbreaking to know she thought a real person was going to marry her. Shows how desperate people are for love 😢
I’m 61 just lost my husband. In my opinion I don’t see myself going for a younger man there are loads of things I could do to get myself busy like playing golf and meeting new people my age with the same thinking.
Met a 30 year old Gambian while in Texas. I asked him what his occupation was & he said he had 4 older British ladies taking care of him, why would he work. He was visiting his 20 year old girlfriend in Houston. I thought he was full of it. Gosh he was probably telling the truth.
I actually think he began with a fifty-year-old middle-aged Gambian men and a 58 year-old middle-aged British white woman just to shake it up so that one wouldn't put on moral glasses, not that one shouldn't but he wanted to be able to begin this documentary without initiating a bias from the get-go due to age disparity. I think it was achieved this by showing us two middle-aged people who loved each other & who got married and their families were involved in the marriage, the family of the man who lived in that country was involved which is usually what they say marriage is about, although with older people it is less so.
To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The British exploited Gambia and left it impoverished, today we have young Gambian men seizing the opportunity to exploit British women to realize their dreams.
Great documentary...thank you. It is important to see both sides to the story. I came from a poor country, the Dominican Republican and I know, life can be very tough.
Everyone seems older in these relationships, which seems fine to me. Grown adults making decisions. We have seen way worse when older people go after really young people barely becoming adults. That's when it's completely wrong.
Very thought provoking. Excellently done. I'd definitely say this is prostitution and having said that, it clarifies boundaries. But the complications are enormous. Would be nice to see a part two.
I don't see it as prostitution. Many of those older women have been dumped by their husbands for younger women, leaving them heartbroken with low self esteem. Yet nobody blinks an eye when a rich older man takes up with much younger women. And many of these ladies are looking for love and they help the man and his extended family and his village and community in turn. If everybody is happy and don't feel exploited ........
Extreme poverty in Gambia and extreme loneliness in the UK

They are just as creepy to me. No PC way to put it.
@@11eve For sure. Both examples of predatory behaviour. That older woman literally licking her lips at her NYE was gross.

Astounding, but, you're right. These men do not need to be judged, they need to be helped. They need education, training...jobs that foster dignity and self-worth or is that to much to ask for Africans who are yes, being exploited for their equipment !

Six of one and half dozen of the other.
You mean a 10 year old! That’s what they’re looking for in Thailand.
A 12-year difference is nothing - he is 48; she is 56; I see that as OK! However, the 30-year-old with the 85-year-old girlfriend, well..as long as the lady knows and accepts what type of relationship it is, then no harm done. We have a saying "fair exchange is no robbery!!
Update: The woman is 68, not 85!
Her husband or boyfriend just said she's 85 ..

This kind of thing doesn't just happen in The Gambia it happens here also and it really doesn't matter how old you are I was in my thirties and my husband was 10 years older than me and he left me for a younger woman it happens all over it's the times we're living in
Interesting documentary! Thank you!

I really wish they had included the perspective of local Gambian women. Do they feel like the dating pool has been severely restricted or do they feel lucky that it now excludes a very specific type of man that they may not be interested in? In what other ways does this phenomenon impact the local dating pool?
So interesting.
Gina how are you
They probably accept that that is how their husbands & boyfriend earn money to support them. Some must also feel resentment.
The women are benefitting. These dudes probably have a wife or two and a passel of children…children are such and important part of the culture. few if any Gambian men will forgo children to marry a post menopausal, overweight, lonely crone…but I guess everyone is getting what he or she is seeking.
they are probably the second wife and also benefit from it
I would imagine all the younger good looking ones are probably out looking for sugar mommas rather than date a broke local woman like that one guy said in the intro.

We love our grandparents when we are kids, they do not look too good, its possible all of these people differ....

@@vrunner6793 you must be fun at parties
Oh you are young. You could pay for another 30+ years instead of only 10 lets say. Have you thought of that.
😂😂😂😂
To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The British exploited Gambia and left it impoverished, today we have young Gambian men seizing the opportunity to exploit British women to realize their dreams.
Right. Oh, how the tables inevitably turn.
The Gambians are still slaves in this situation. That’s the true 😢
