As a Floridian who’s been through many hurricanes Ron desantis did a great job with his prep and reaction. I even thought he called a state of emergency too early but after it hit I realized it was a great decision. It’s sad to see them politicize a natural disaster and try to attack his decisions when he did a great job. Real people were affected and they just think about the polls.

The same aid? People from Sandy got the same aid as people from hurricane Ian.
Sandy happened in 2012 and the bill (HR 41) that he voted against happened in 2013. The bill was to provide extra funds for flood insurance and was use for people who didn’t have flood insurance. That bill also included other things such as money for a fishery disaster in Alaska (which I don’t think had anything to do with Sandy, but I could be completely wrong).
Same applies here…if you have flood insurance, then you should be good to go. If you don’t, I don’t believe the government should bail you out considering the option is there and you failed to properly insure your assets.
So as far as I’m aware, people of Sandy and Ian have received the same type of assistance (thus far). Is there something that I’m missing?

Born and raised in Florida. Lived in Sarasota/Charlotte counties for 40 years. Been through every storm since 1983. Stayed through them all. Every Floridian knows the score. We don't need to be told that we should leave. We know staying is a gamble. It's like smoking, nobody is ignorant to the risks.
The reason people stay is because 49 times out of 50, nothing happens. It costs money to leave for a few days. If you have kids and pets, leaving for two or three days could cost over a grand by the time you pay for gas, food, lodging, etc.
Again, when it's going to cost you $1,000 that you may not have and then 49 times out of 50, the storm shifts, veers away, weakens, etc., a lot of people roll the dice and take the calculated risk.
Even as someone who has always stayed, you know you are playing with fire and it's only a matter of time before you get burned.

They also don't understand while it is our Governor who declares a state of emergency -- -he does not order mandatory evacuations... This is done on the County level..
Also true, just because an evacuation is mandatory, large numbers of people choose not to leave, and police cannot knock down every door and physically drag people to shelters.. Along with the reasons you mentioned, a number of people refuse to leave because they are afraid to abandon their property or business.. When I was younger, we stayed for the thrill of it and had roaring Hurricane parties as we rode the weather out.
There's also been many occasions where folks in my area evacuated to Northern parts of the State because of a Hurricane's path predicted it would hit us, only to have the storm miss us and hit the area they drove up to..

As a genuinely independent Florida voter, I'm happy with his response. Yes, if you knew exactly when and how a hurricane would hit, you could do things perfectly. Yes, some people will stay in their home even if there is a mandatory evacuation, because that's how Florida is. And no, the government shouldn't be kicking down doors to drag people out of their homes.

Leave it to the Democrat Party’s Mefia Apparatchiks to dance on people’s graves from a Cat4 Hurricane by blaming Guv DeSantis for the “failed” evacuation… but the Guv ain’t no dummy, as he points out the FEMA predicted that landfall would be in the North, closer to Tampa Florida - where the entire media stationed all their assets - so IF the Washington Compost now teases that there are “growing questions” we must assume that the Media had up-to-the-minute MORE accurate forecasting and - deliberately - withheld that information to score - deadly - political points 🤔

So full of himself and his Ego, he wanted to avoid criticism by telling Floridians that he got it wrong, and it wasn't heading north, but took a hard right. Polling puts independents as right leaning over left in a 2:1 ratio. The Biden administration has not done well for the democrat reputation and even during COVID, people started polling away from democrats who would enact legislation they themselves wouldn’t follow. Desantis has handled this storm like an absolute Master. Lived in Florida all my life and I've been through a dozen storms, including Andrew in Miami.
This has BY FAR been the best response to a storm I've ever seen.
