► Struggle is a Pokemon move thats been in every game since gen 1.No Pokemon Learns it by level up, TM, HM or anything special - instead its a move that you can only use in a last resort situation, once you're all out of Power Points (PP). But since struggle is a normal type move, what would happen if you used it on a Ghost type Pokemon? Lets find out!
I'll also be testing out fun scenarios, like can Struggle Hit Shedinja?
I remember hearing this question asked a couple months ago from a RUclips video (I want to say it was from MightyKeef, but I'm not sure) and today, we now have the answer!

Every subsequent generation, Struggle is a typeless move.

@@accadueoaccadueo945 maybe a reference to how in gen 1 when missingo attacks it automatically used a move called type cool trainer, like how when a pokemon uses all lf the PP in all their attacks is used up they automatically use struggle?

This video was pretty weak ngl. He could have at least mentioned how the recoil damage varies by generation.

I always thought that Struggle was typeless and not Normal type. Like when a Pokemon hits themselves in confusion.

It's typeless, but it's labeled as a normal type move since the typeless type is called ??? Type. It'd be weird seeing ??? in the move type area.
Part of the reason Struggle is typeless is not to have a 0 PP Ghost type vs 0 PP Ghost type scenario which while very rare can happen. Not sure why struggle hits Rocks and Steels neutrally though.
@@ShursGarden lol, I guess thats why "??? Plating" Arceus was not released, it would be weird fighting a typeless Pokemon, no weakness, but can use moves that are super effective against other pokemon. Sure, Eelektross exists, but all you need is a Pokemon with mold breaker, also, I doubt Eelektross can compare to Arceus, who can learn multiple types of moves.

Don’t make a joke ever
I actually discovered that you can use STAB Struggle by using an Arcanine with Burn Up. After you use the move Arcanine becomes typeless and can use Struggle with a 1.5x boost. This also works with Typhlosion.

Exactly from what I've heard it only doesn't hurt Ghost types in gen 1 Gen 2 onwards it isn't normal type

This was actually very helpful! Especially that Rock and Steel now don't resist Struggle and that you can hit a Shedinja with it!
Actually gen 1 is the only game where struggle is a normal type move. Gen 2 and past struggle is actually typeless, like if an Arcanine used Burn Up. That’s why it has no resistance or stab

Here is another fun fact: For whatever reason in Red/Blue when battling someone in Fushia City with a Ditto that has no PP, instead of using Struggle the game will just say _No PP left for this move!_ and it won't attack
Edit: also when the opponent uses Disable on the PP-less Ditto, the game will Freeze

Hey PokeTips, happy to see another video of ours. Intresting news! So for Pokémon Sheild I hosted a Max Raid battle, no one joined me so I went alone with the handy trainers that always let me down. I brought with me a Glaceon and this support trainer had a Wobbuffet. The Wobbuffet used Safe Guard and I had my Glaceon use Max Mindstorm. And the the opposing Dynamax Pokémon attacked next turn... something strange happened. I didn't quite get to read what it said but I'm sure it was saying something like this, "The physical battle field is protecting you from all attacks!" I think that because nobody took any more damage. But I want you to have a look for yourself. If it's okay, can you test this in a raid battle and show me if you have the chance??

I had already done it against a ghost type in the same game you showed at the beginning and got myself through the elite four
My answer to the title: It still hits, except for In Gen 1 before Struggle was typeless.
This is really funny timing cause I sort of found out how gen 5 does it last night when a wild Litwick used imprison on my own I had just caught and I ended up losing use of all my moves lol.

I found this out the hard way a few days ago...
Currently playing a randomised soul link of heart gold soul silver with my brother and my encounter was an azelf. I sent out my shedinja after I checked it had no moves that were super effective, and it used struggle and killed it.
That was the first and last time I sent out shedinja, only had it on the team so my brother could have arcanine. Felt so bad but had no idea as I assumed it was normal type.
Two ghost type pokemon using struggle and not doing anything is the equivalent of two metapods fighting

In dimond I had a Togepi and fought a Gastly. It used the move where you can't run away and I didn't have a move with damage. The Gastly cursed me but didn't had an damaging move ether. I had to use all my tail wimp, growl and another move because we couldn't damage each other. This fight took ages until I won.

Struggle is used when the enemy taunts you and you don't have any attacks or if it torments you and you don't have more than one move.

While ev training in Black 2 and without knowing my Level 100 Arceus was out of PP I found a shiny litwick, I accidentally clicked attack and arceus (normal type) killed the shiny litwick. I haven’t ev trained since.
