One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was the age of gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night. We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan... the spell is broken. And we live again! We are defenders of the night. WE ARE GARGOYLES! This, Batman the Animated Series and DBZ are 90s childhood.
I remember rushing home to watch this. I was genuinely surprised at the complex issues they tackled. It was a cartoon drama as opposed to stand alone episodes like we were accustomed.
@@AveryTalksAboutStuff Another Star Trek cast member, Marina Sirtis plays Demona in the series. Also Keith David considers Goliath on of his favorite roles.
I love this show. This was basically Disney saying. You know whats popular Batman The Animated Series. Let's do something like in that dark tone. And they did an awesome job with it. For 2 seasons. Great Review Avery I hope to see more
If they ever decide to do a reboot or a sequel series, they're not allowed to use any actors save those from Discovery or Picard. This is both arbitrary and iron clad.
Would love to see more videos on gargoyles! Thanks for doing them I was way too obsessed with this show, season 2 was also fantastic if you wanted to skip ahead!
@@AveryTalksAboutStuff OH MY DISNEY! YES! Goliath/Elisa are my OTP in Disney’s Gargoyles. There’s an episode in the show (season 2, I think) where you get to see two wats they can actually be together. Either she becomes a gargoyle or he becomes human. The episode is called The Mirror. There’s another episode where Goliath gets sent to a parallel world, I think, and in that world he’s human, married to Elisa, and has kids which made me very happy and made me fan girl.
I remember renting the movie on VHS as a kid, and then seeing the show on TV. Definitely a comfort watch, and Keith David in his prime is just... music to my ears.
Was so hyped for this show when I saw an acknowledgement in my magazine for it as a kid. Loved Batman before and expected that to be just as dark and epic and I wasn't let down.
Sporadically watching these after downloading them because I have horrible reception atm. Just wanted to leave the obligatory comment and to let you know I cant wait for the next one!! Keep up the hard work :)
There's a Gargoyles game on genesis that I must have. Also you probably know by now that most of the main gargoyles have names, my favs are Lexington and Broadway.
Yes! I can never quite remember except for Hudson and Goliath because I watched when I was a kid and then put it on as background noise and never pay full attention but I love that each name has a story behind how they got it.
I like how later in the season we get to see why princess Catherine was so against gargoyles in the castle after what happened to her as a girl and her father. Made it believable. Such good writing in the show.
Aside from her blaming the gargoyles for her father being poisoned, we see her father used them as a tactic to get her to behave. "Go to sleep or the gargoyles will get you."
@@AveryTalksAboutStuff Physically, yes. Though his wings remind me of a sugar glider with how they connect to his midsection instead of just the shoulders.
As a bit of a Gargoyles nerd, I can answer some of your questions on the lore. While we're not explicitly shown how gargoyles reproduce, it's some sort of sexual reproduction. Their fertility is directly in line with the seasons, their "breeding season" is in the fall. Females take about 6 months to gestate after copulation. They only lay one egg at a time, and can reproduce every twenty years, at ages 50, 70, and 90. Their lifespans are longer than humans' so it's not as old for them as it sounds. The eggs take around 10 years to hatch, and the entire clan's eggs hatch around the same time. During the 10-year period, the eggs require care such as being turned regularly. Female gargoyles do lactate and nurse their young, but otherwise, both males and females take active roles in raising the offspring.
Shame that i didn't watch Gargoyles, i know i'm terrible, gimme a break i just finished the animated Silver Brumby, Wicked Science S1, Ready For This underrated show go see watch even if you haven't watch Dance Academy (which of the producers name was apart of it and like Dance Academy & Nowhere Boys and a few others, it's a teen drama) & starting Bottersnikes & Gumbles (kids cartoon based on the book series in the 90s, the Australiam dub, not the American dub, even with this American accent even tho i was born in Sydney, also don't talk why i have it at all lol tho the show is a "Netflix original series"), Bureau of Magical Things S2 on 10 Play (so far very good tho that last ep has some good laughs), Sky Trackers both with about 6 to 12 eps left to watch. i'm still waiting for 1968 Skippy or the movie, Blinky Bill notably Yoram Gross/Flying Bark movies and tv show from the 90s to 2000s, Saddle Club, The Ferals or whatever get a shine in the spotlight, something that i'm familiar with or haven't seen as of yet, as i'm doing my own thing on Australian tv and i don't know how long i'll finish the 1st Ty game (just finish and 100% completed Ty 2), Spyro or anything video game wise i have lying around because i really like video games very much. tho i've never heard Captain Flinn & The Pirate Dinosaurs (apparently also based on a book series, also doesn't have a wiki page so i wouldn't know). so much to do with all of this. man talk about me sometimes making long comments and also going off topic.
