  • My Second flight on the Niviuk Ikuma 3. This time from Poniente west take off. It was a busy day here and I thermal and ridge soar with a few others but with it still being a familiarisation flight I was wary of being too close to the ridge. I did a lot of small brake inputs and weight shift, the wing responds accurately and sensitively. It was a great flight I loved the speed of the glide down the valley and I get a couple of thermals (same thermal source I spoke about in EP 1 ) above the landing field helping me to stay away from others, I also enjoyed the landing experience, the flare was deep having very little headwind but I came to a nice stop. Those vultures are something else and I get to meet them again at El Bosque coming up.

    Hi Graham,
    Super Videos! Many thanks
    Can you share your experience of trimm speed and full speed of the Ikuma3?

      Hi thanks for the message. Its difficult for me to give exact figures but I have pulled some averages from the flights the videos belong to. Average speed has been around 28km/h and max speed attained 48.06km/h. I was often sat at 30kmh on glide, I used bar a couple of times but never full maybe half. I seen increases up to 4km/h. I don't think ridge soaring and thermalling is the best environment to gather performance data with the glider being given so much input. Id like to test on an xc flight I'm sure those figures will improve, hope this helps

    Hi Graham , nice video . I'm considering an Ikuma 3 currently flying a hook , how does it feel in the thermals . Is it pitch stable & did you have any wobbles on it or is it a pleasant transition from flying the Hook .
    Happy flights mate

      Hi Peter, The hook I was over the weight range and I loved how it was performing but going against specs it didn't sit with me. The Ikuma I'm mid weight range and I'm being honest its a concern. I've had a few wobbles but I conditioned myself to say its how I'm now in touch with the glider, it really is different. At first I explained as soft, that softness remains until you are getting thrown about, but its not a feeling you are being catapulted into your wing. Its a very weird transition from a B wing. Huge different style of inflation, everything is different. Its not a transition its a choice.

    hello , do you recommand to be on mid range weight or full range to have the best flight (no roll as possible)

    • @Graham_lee
      @Graham_lee  7 месяцев назад +1

      There is a roll for me at mid weight, the first time it happened I worried that I was too light. I tried to correct the roll with opposite brakes but it seemed to make it worse so I put my hands up. Within two rocks left to right the glider stabilised, the next time I rolled I just put my hands up and again all was good. I never worried about it again,. I think it would benefit being loaded to near top of the weight range. Being in the middle weight range any wing has the potential to be boaty. Im 98kilos all up on the 26m which has a weight range 85 -105 so I'm just passed mid point. Im going to try some ballast on my next flights and note the difference. It really is a different tech than the Hook, I told myself that so making no comparisons and just allowing myself to get familiar with the new feelings from a Low B to a High B. What weight are you?

    Having just come upon your interesting videos it would be nice to know where ever you are in the world? I have spent 5 minutes to no avail looking and found no indication of where these videos are taken or even the country they are taken in! That's if your intent is to not keep it entirely a secret or have I missed something?
