Diamonds can literally be mass produced in a factory, opal can not. Even the most realistic man made opal has columns of color and is clearly not natural, because real opal comes from silicic acid formed when silica dissolves in water at high temperature and pressure. This gel like acid then settles in cracks and as the the solvents evaporate, micro spheres of silica are left behind, bound together by little threads of silica that didn’t form any spheres.
@@-eternal no they don't lmao they aren't even close. they just have small pillars of color and aren't nearly as reflective as real opals. plus they're held together with resin so they feel like plastic. man made opal sucks.

Whatta pretty crappy deal with the partnership they have is with Cole, who got a fever and and sick, could’ve spent 2 months mining with the crew, then the crew strikes opal and gets rich but Cole gets nothing. That’s wrong! That’s beating your mates out of all there hard work up to date. I don’t like that agreement at all.
Zoes Dada ...your opinions are neither accurate or relevant. Perhaps you meant ‘in my personal opinion, I don’t find diamonds beautiful or think they’re rare’. Similarly, in my opinion and to my knowledge....most precious gems are considered rare because they’re formed solely by nature and only in perfect conditions. Although they can now be manufactured artificially.... the natural production of a high quality diamond (especially those of unusual colour etc) are in fact rare and uncommon in nature.
I think its funny how overpriced Australian opal is, especially when man made looks just as good, and unless you know the difference, youre not gonna know the difference, lols
The reason real opal is so expensive is because of a combination of a few factors: - real opal is much , much rarer; - the way it's formed over many, many centuries is something to be appreciated and awed by from a geological standpoint; - the danger and time involved in mining it; - for a lot of people it's tied to a spiritual or emotional connection to the outback; - you may not be able to tell the difference but anyone who actually cares about opal definitely can, and fake opals are nowhere near as good. I come from red-earth australia, though my home is gold-mining country, but it's a similar sorta thing. Owning something that was born in the same place you were over millions of years is pretty special. Not to say the precious mineral industry isn't way overblown (because it is) but your comment is like saying "why would i own a real dog when this stuffed one looks close enough". It really is not the same thing to anyone who's actually in the industry.
I surface hunt Native American arrowheads and there is a big difference in the value and sentiment connected with the real thing versus all the fakes out there. why are they always covered in flys? do they smell that bad?
