Ah yes. The 2001 draft. From Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Pau Gasol, J Rich, Tony Parker. This draft had some really great players. Jason Richardson could drop buckets on you. Tony Parker. One of the best international players along with Gasol. But one of my all time favorite players was from this draft and it was Z Bo. Zach Randolph. He was a paint beast. Multiple seasons of 20 and 10, that run with the Jail Blazers, and then becoming a really good piece for the grizzlies in his later years.
I maintain that in a redraft Kwame still goes in the lottery, small hands be damned he was still a good backup center and acceptable starter when used right
In a redraft I got him going 10th.. not in any order I got Z Bo, Chandler, Arenas, Parker, Joe Johnson, battier, gasol , Jefferson and Richardson. 10th puts him in Boston maybe he has a better career there .. who really knows
The Elton Brand for Tyson chandler trade doesn’t get brought up enough in the worst trade convos. Bulls were doing pretty good in drafting post jordan until that.
Love these Draft recaps! It's a trip down the memory lane and they're really cool to watch and remember all these great players from the 90's and 00's. Nice work!
This was the 1st Memphis Grizzlies draft. The Grizzlies took Shane Battier and traded for Pau Gasol(he was originally drafted by ATL). When Shane(and eventually Pau) put their hats on, it said Grizzlies because the NBA hadn't voted for the move from Vancouver yet(the board of governors approved the move a few weeks later).
I remember in a interview Kwame did, he stated that the original plan was for him to be traded to the Bulls for Elton Brand, but Abe Polin - the wizards owner, nixed it because he felt Jordan had made too many trades at that point.
ahh another video regarding the 2001 NBA Draft, but yes this was really the year of the high school, man so many high schoolers came into the league and it was just crazy
You should do a video of all the other high schoolers who failed in the NBA that they had to make that 2006 rule. Also I remember there was a time when NBA teams went Euro crazy where they drafted a lot of foreign players that year.
Kwame is a good guy. Give him credit for sticking in the league , Jordan was super competitive and hard on Kwame....would been fine as late first rounder
I’m a Cavs fan and I remember DeSegonia Diop. I remember going to a game at then Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio and Diop got a technical foul for checking into the game with his jersey untucked. I’m never going to forget that rule now. 😅😅
I'm probably lowkey Tyson Chandler's biggest fan in europe. I LOVED how he carried himself and the Defense in 2011, he was a shining symbol of gentleman off and beasting on the court, dressed awesome, smiling, humble...and than BANGING with the big guys down low, i was amazed as a somewhat new live viewer
Funny enough, Gerald Wallace ended up injuring Arenas on a layup (Wallace scored and landed falling down into Arenas' knee), and from there Gilbert Arenas was never the same.
I can't recall..what *did* happen to Eddy Curry for him to just suddenly fall off the face of the NBA landscape? He was pretty good in 2006-2007 with a lot of 20+ point games, and even dropped 43 on the Bucks. Just a few years later and it's as if he didn't even exist anymore.
Apparantly Scab (Brian scalabrini) is actually one of the best one on one players in the world....he used to beat KG, Paul Pierce, etc on a daily basis and smashed people in the big 3 during practice and exhibition playing 1 v 1 so even though you were joking about him, dude can freakin hoop
Great video but a correction, Tyson Chandler did show promise as a defensive anchor in New Orleans and then his one year in Charlotte, yes he came off the bench but helped hold Dwight Howard under 10 points points per game in their first round matchup the year before he helped the Mavs win the championship. The Magic still swept the Bobcats but Tyson Chandler did play the most minutes out of all centers while Dwight Howard was hardly effective at all.
Today's draft with all the one and done is basically the extreme version of the 2001 draft. It wasn't skills that forced the NBA to implement the new rule in 2006, it was the maturation of these kids.
Also baggy clothes were just really popular in the 2000s for some reason, remember people wore shorts that were basically pants because they were so big
They start drafting centers during that time because that was the time when Shaq was dominating the center position. These 4 high schoolers are all center.
Hey Sir Andy, im a BIG fan of yours. I like all of your videos and how you make them. I just have one request if you may, Can you make a video regarding to my all time fave team, Lakers, esp the roster year after Kobe retires. The roster consists of young core of lakers like Jordan Clarkson, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, D’Angelo Russell, Josh Hart and others I just wonder if the Lakers Organization stick to that Roster, will they get NBA Championship? Or will they improve or grow more if they’re not traded because all of them if im not mistaken was originally drafted from Lakers Thanks sir Andy! All the best
I wouldn't totally call Kwame Brown a bust, he was pretty servicable, especially when he was with the Lakers. Chandler was a Great Big Man on D. Pau was a Great Big Man for Memphis and was Great Partner for Kobe, J Rich was a Decent Scorer too, Shane Battier was a Great Insurance Policy for Lebron, Wade and Bosh, and Joe Johnson was a Great Iso Man. And Richard Jefferson was a Decent Player for New Jersey and A Great Player with JKidd, and ZBo was the Best in Memphis
shane battier started over 700 NBA games he is not just a "role player" dude was a solid starter for well over a decade. a role player is someone like steve novak or reggie evans. can do 1 thing well and doesnt play big minutes
I think how it is now is good with players being able to enter the G-League right out of high school, college isn't a bad option either since they can get paid now (which might have more players not wanting to leave college and milk that college experience while being rich)
I was supposed to be in this draft. I was a point guard. Just killin it that year. Agents calling my house. Every college offering me to go to their schools. It was an insane time. I was receiving cars. Money. Women. Etc. I never signed a letter on intent. I end up tearing both knees mid season. All the colleges went ghost. Agents went ghost. I never picked up a ball ever again. Worked out for me. Got 3 degrees. Successful businessman. Now running for public office.
To my knowledge on what he pointed out, jordan and doug trained him hard before games they played him out least minuate, he was a good role player etc, also but him in garbage minutes not a superstar like he thinks.
I don't see what the "problem" is with players in HS going straight to the NBA. They have us fooled, since it's not the NBA- it's the NBA Players Union that excludes high schoolers in their collective bargaining agreements in order to protect veteran roster spots. If it were up to the specific NBA teams, they wouldn't pick players from high school if they believe they won't pan out- so the whole "high school players are immature so we wont pick them" argument is absurd.
I might be wrong, i thought MJ drafted Kwame because he wanted to trade him to Chicago for Elton Brand however the bulls ended up trading with clippers for Chandler.
I don't hold it against a guy because he was scouted highly in high school or college. Kwame Brown had a solid NBA career if you don't consider his draft position. Not his fault everyone overrated him as a youngster and drafted him #1.
brian scalabrine absolutely carried this draft class to easily a top 5 draft of all time, it’s not everyday you draft the GOAT
Based 🗣
MJ probably agrees. probably
He's called Air Scalabrine for a reason
It’s not everyday you get the white mamba
@@AlexKr. I don't know that guy. BUT...I do know the White Mamba.

You trippin on Kwame being a good player
You listing Kwame Brown like he's as good as these other guys you mentioned. Stop the crap. Lol he's still a bust no matter how long he played.
@@themambaman7845 lmao he really snuck Kwame in their like we wouldn’t notice 😂
Z Bo was the ultimate skilled bully
Gerald Wallace's defense and hustle
I remember this. In NBA 2k2 the highest rated rookie was Shane Battier at 81
I maintain that in a redraft Kwame still goes in the lottery, small hands be damned he was still a good backup center and acceptable starter when used right
And if MJ didn't destroy his morale he could have been even better
Absolutely... Playing with Jordan killed his career
In a redraft I got him going 10th.. not in any order I got Z Bo, Chandler, Arenas, Parker, Joe Johnson, battier, gasol , Jefferson and Richardson. 10th puts him in Boston maybe he has a better career there .. who really knows
although his hands weren't small his wrist wasn't right after he injured it pre-draft during a bar brawl which he never reported to the wizards
@@wobbafett2464 that “not in any order” statement is there you know
The Elton Brand for Tyson chandler trade doesn’t get brought up enough in the worst trade convos. Bulls were doing pretty good in drafting post jordan until that.
Yeah they have the right piece for a rebuild like Brand and Artest.
Drafting Marcus fizer was a mistake the moment they did it
What a hell are you saying. Marcus Fizer is one of worst top5 in history!
@@atsk3281 that's what I literally said
That's Jerry Krause for you!

Don't lie, the only time you've seen DeSagana Diop is that airball free throw.
That was the greatest free throw of all time; also, What up NiTringo
I remember seeing that free throw in a Shaqtin-A-Fool video 😂
I remember him in NBA Live 2002? because he was like 300 lb, easy to trade for, and had a high strength rating so I could put him on Shaq to stop him.
@@samnangchea5025remember this too
Bro I love these draft class videos. Glad you're staying consistent you inspire me to step my game up and post more!
Gilbert Arenas was a great player, despite injuries, and one of the best players from the Washington Wizards!

I think the problem with highschooler's going into the draft, they are either immature or high ego
That iso joe cross on Paul pierce is so underrated.
I like the way you introduced The White Mamba. No need to mention His accolades or achievements. We know it already.
ahh i remember the time when Kwame Brown and Kobe Bryant combined for 84points to crush the raptors
I remember in a interview Kwame did, he stated that the original plan was for him to be traded to the Bulls for Elton Brand, but Abe Polin - the wizards owner, nixed it because he felt Jordan had made too many trades at that point.

5:35 that's Tyler Hansbrough, one of my favorite college basketball players out of North Carolina. You should do a video on him.
9:56 Andy stuttered wit the script😭I’m suprised nobody’s caught it
I thought I was the only one that pointed it out LOL
We caught it. Just chose not to point out his mistake.
@@AmiriHipHop hn, I just wanted to point it out since I’ve been a supporter for so long, and I ain’t used to that😂

Brian Scalabrine is definitely a Hall of Famer. He torched my Lakers in 08

Already the greatest draft class of all time just because of the GOAT, Brian Scalabrine.
The underdog actual Goat 🐐
Him and Caruso.
Who is that wich team he played for😊
To this day, I still question why the Bulls traded Elton Brand for Tyson Chandler. Also, don't forget Richard Jefferson is a ref, too.

And the NCAA can't make money off them if they draft them out of High school
@@Bigedub101 I don't really think the NBA gives a damn about the NCAA. The NBA is more worried about their own pockets.
Those baggy suits will never get old!! Them early 2000s boys weren’t getting anything tailor made!! 😂😂😂😂😂

Absolutely ISO Joe gonna be a HOF'er.
A quiet 20k points, but dude was just lethal for so long that I don't see how he don't make it.

10:40 Andy getting that AK-47 name drop in!
Thank you for the White Mamba shoutout! 🐍🏀
I've called Chandler and Curry "C+C Hoop Factory" and was expecting both to carry the Bulls. It didn't work out

Nobody is a Bust if you make it to the NBA 😆
Gerald Wallace is very underrated.

what a hilarious way to end this video with the White Mamba Brian Scalibrine
Jaylen Brown next video Andy Hoops 🙏🙏🙏
No, the NBA made that rule because the NCAA was afraid they would lose their cash cow. Bring high schoolers back to the NBA !
Damnnnn that was a good draft
Yeah I think it’s good that high schoolers can’t get drafted anymore
The only way I see high schoolers getting drafted returning is if they’re forced to play a season in the g-league.
I think how it is now is good with players being able to enter the G-League right out of high school, college isn't a bad option either since they can get paid now (which might have more players not wanting to leave college and milk that college experience while being rich)

Gilbert Arenas is a perfect fit for the modern era also for constantly saying dumb things about NBA history.
After all was a great great draft class from 4/5 pick down
