    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
    Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
    Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
    With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
    Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
    On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
    A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
    DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
    Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
    Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
    Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
    Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

    My favorite thing about your channel, aside from how you always find interesting places, is that you're so smooth with the camera. Other channels just have the camera whipping all over the place, which makes it nearly impossible to watch.

      Well, it was still pretty exciting just going into the old mines even if there wasn’t all that much to see. Going down the rock slide heading down to the old drifts was pretty crazy. How long did it take you to get back up the main road? Me and a friend when we were 13 hiked down a mule trail “skiing” all the way to the floor of the trail. No problem. Getting out took me about 4 hours to get out! I thought I was going to die. I know what you mean about how big a mountain trail and far down it is. Found that out in the San Gabriel mountains up at East fork. Say a flat spot up in the hill side from where we were sluicing. We could see tailing piles and thought oh yeah we could take that road where there’s that cement tunnel that leads to nowhere. Baaahaha! We got up above the the old working were and we were like holy moly! 10 foot cliffs were actually 100 foot cliffs. We drove back around and went back to where we were sluicing never making it to the old workings. Dang Gly, you da man!! Can’t wait till next week! Tom.

    love the intro.... great info on the Geology of the ancient calderas that barely started off on the Northern Nevada Border and creating some fantastic Bonanza class ore .....all one needs to do is to core drill the outer edges of the collapsed calderas to check for rich deposits ....next time bring sample bags for those lenses ....they looked good ...sample at the red flags and on the outer lens of red before it turns black ... can't wait for ya to get ropes too ...be safe out there and keep them coming cause me and Slim are a loving them

    Never mind gly that you could not reach your objective in the open pit ,i did think sliding down was a bit unwise just in case you started an avalanche by disturbing the immediate surrounding area below you, and then above you rocks wanting to fill the you created sliding on your butt. Me myself i would have sent a drone to video,or photograph,everything.. because it's a scramble back up. This was a great 4 part video gly glad you had a laugh or two and i dare say you put a load of time in doing the editing in this 4 part video for all your subscribers who do appreciate all you do to bring us exactly what you see on your adventures....

    • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  3 года назад +4

      “Gly”: I’m glad you said that about starting a avalanche. That did happen to me back in the 80’s when I started a rock slide scrambling across the same type of material only to have a bunch more come down to fill in the void. I did fly the drone down in there to get a better look at those drifts but even with the drone it still looked doable without rope assist. That’s ok... I enjoyed the challenge.

    Sliding down that reminded me of hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in February of 1977 while in High School. At Granite Rapids there were several 200' tall plus sand drifts against the Canyon walls we would climb up then bound down and slide down what a gas. One was about 500 feet tall. We would leap out as far as we could land in an explosion of sand then bound out and down all in one fluid action. It was snowing on the rim and near 100 at the river. Best trip I ever took!!!!

    Core drilling has not completely replaced exploration drifts. The mining district I'm involved with has some areas where gold and silver values are found in pyrrhotite nodules. One nodule that we assayed came back around $50,000/ton, but it was only a few inches wide and hosted in barren quartz. Core drilling will either miss the nodule and show no/trace values, or hit the nodule and hugely exaggerate grades. I've taken on-vein samples a few feet away from each other where one sample ran maybe $200 and the other ran $800. An exploration drift gives a much more complete picture in a variable deposit.

    • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  3 года назад +4

      “Gly”: You are very correct and I’ve had this same conversation with many people regarding core drilling vs drift exploration. A core drill only needs to miss an area by inches of what could potentially be some very high grade ore.

    WOW!!! That was fantastic. The whole series of the last month has been great.Can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos. I'm in my 70s and handicapped so it would be impossible for me otherwise. So much beauty I would never see, and glad you had fun doing it. Thank you!

    After I started watching your channel, my ability to describe dungeons and caves for the D&D games I run has greatly improved.
    I thoroughly appreciate your attention to details I would otherwise miss when looking at cave walls. Plus, all the various dangers that you point out have come handy when making the caves more dangerous for the players to explore. Already had 1 of the player characters fall victim to an unmarked winze, and another to trusting a plank of doom.

    Oooo, "the velvet rope". Very impressive looking mineral on the walls. Colors galore!! I want a sample. Will you be putting some specimens in your store? (Mine#3...I wouldn't want to hear any creaking while you two walked thru that gobbing of boulders area. (open pit....so dangerous, like a quarry. Never know what type of movement could cause a slide. When I toured some quarries with a partner, they allowed us in but cautioned us NOT to climb up any of the tapered walls. That loose material can start moving by disturbing it. So glad that you had to stop when you did, but thanks for the excitment of your "slide". (was like doing it with you from your camera angle). Again, and again, you offer some interesting and well filmed videos. Thank you.

    Thank you Gly for the effort you go to to show us these mines, and the huge effort you went to in the open pit. Good news on the rope stuff 👍👍 Pete Australia

    20:00 That little extra brace made me so happy. that's the kind of trace we should be leaving. just that little thing to help keep this open for everyone to enjoy. without that kind person's effort, this mine might be closed

    Glad I found your channel. Your videos are the best. Super expiations of mining operations and especially the geology. We watch you descend, crawl, and explore in eager anticipation of what’s around that next bend. We wish you could mention, while in a mining work area, just how many people you estimate would be in that mine working at one time. Thanks for your expertise and video talent.!!

    That slide you went down looked sketchy . I'm thinking a drone view would have saved you a trip down.
    I'll just bet that was real fun going back up ! Stay safe.

    Have you ever heard of the Mcckacken mine? It was worked into the 1980’s since the 1880s in Mohave country @ 40 miles due south of Kingman Az in Mohave County.? It’s a huge mine! An entire mountain is Swiss cheese. It’s close to the ghost town of Signal on the big Sandy river as well as Alamo lake. There are dozens of mines in the surrounding hills. I would be happy to help you locate them. It’s close to you and we’ll worth your time!
