Thank you to everyone who has given us tips and advice on what to do while we are here in Australia! We have quickly discovered (especially from most of the comments), that Starbucks is NOT the place to go for a good cup of coffee 😂 but don’t worry, we have found some of the local coffee shops and restaurants, and we are impressed! But hey - we still wanted to try the differences between our Canadian McDonald’s and your Aussie Macca’s 😉 Australia is very new to us, and we are super excited to be introduced to the culture and flow of life here (with or without the Starbucks coffee 😉). Thanks again to all of you who have watched and commented on this video 🙂
and thanks for taking the Starbucks comments well, it's not like there are signs at our airports warning you against Starbucks so you weren't to know, and we're coffee snobs here in Oz so we take it so personally lol 😄 I hope you both have a GREAT time in Oz!!! 😄👍
Welcome to Australia & Brisbane! So funny to us that you got coffee from Starbucks.. as you can see from all of the other comments. Your Go card is a public transport card for greater Brisbane area.. including south to Gold Coast & north to Sunshine coast (both are beautiful beach areas) you can use it on buses, trains, ferries etc… so a great way to get around. There are top up machines at stations so you can recharge by card payment. Places to visit - Southbank parklands & lagoon, lone pine koala sanctuary, Sunny & Gold coasts, hinterland areas, Redcliffe peninsula, beach suburbs etc etc. Enjoy 😊
@@drewanthonyb I believe Australia has a 'Truth In Advertising' law. It shouldn't be too long before Starbucks is forced to stop advertising their brown water as coffee.
Before you leave Brisbane make sure you get the ferry over to Moreton Island, in particular go to Tangalooma and swim on the wrecks. You absolutely won't find a better swimming spot in greater Brisbane. If you have time also check out North Stradbroke Island.
For eleven years, I use to run the city cleansing operations in Brisbane which included the CBD, the city and Chinatown malls and the road infrastructure spreading out into the suburbs of Brisbane. I also use to drive buses for 'Translink' and there's nothing prohibiting you from recording or taking photos on public transport in SE Queensland. Some people are just paranoid about cameras. If you're still in Brisbane, a few hours at 'Southbank' is never wasted. A beach in the middle of the city!
It's so weird to see my city in a RUclips video. Thanks for giving us such a good review ❤ The thing that makes the Aussie Angus burger different is the Beetroot. It's not a proper hamburger in Oz if there's no Beetroot. The Angus part is just a gimmick, they market Angus Beef as a premium, when in fact almost all the beef we eat here is Angus beef anyway. Welcome to Brisbane! 😁
G’day and welcome to Aus. Great video! Couple of handy hints: don’t bother with Starbucks - it largely failed here. You’ll want an espresso type coffee from pretty much any cafe. Flat white is the most common (coffee with milk). The further south you go, the more seriously we take our coffee. Sydney is good but Melbourne reigns supreme. @@drewanthonyb - nice one mate! 👍 Glad you’re heading this way. Time & budget dependent: 1. Get an Opal card at any 7/11 or convenience store. That gives you all public transport… but don’t worry - in Sydney you can tap on and off with your Visa/Mastercard - saves the purchase of a card - unless you want a souvenir. Works for buses, trains, trams & ferries. 2. Love Asian food? Get lost around the Chinatown area and see how amazing the Japanese, Korean, and Thai food is too. Top class and too many choices. Try the food court at Market Place above Paddy’s Market (also worth a visit for ridiculous tourist knick-knacks). 3. Definitely recommend a ferry to Manly, and/or a ferry to Cockatoo Island; or for a simple quick tour - walk across the Bridge (visiting the pylon lookout en route) and then walk down to Luna Park and catch the ferry back to Circular Quay. 4. Don’t miss the Botanical Gardens and that Instagram famous shot from Mrs Macquarie’s chair. Easy walk from Circular Quay. 5. Every tourist seems to head to Bondi, which I think is over-rated; but definitely do at least part of the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk if you have the time. 6. Angus is just a breed of cow from Scotland they referring to Aussie Angus just means the cow was bred in Australia fun fact there is a cross breed of Angus and Japanese wagyu right here in Australia too.
An Angus burger is made from Angus beef which comes from a breed of cattle that makes for juicier meat when cooked. And yes, the swooping bird sign is about the magpie, which swoops down and attacks you. There are many magpies in that area. An Australian native bird that when in breeding season (usually Spring/Summer) the nesting magpies get very territorial and will swoop down and peck your head, which can cause injury, which is why you see people on bikes wear zip ties protruding from their stack hats (helmets) to deter the magpies from attacking you. It’s especially worse when you’re travelling fast on a bike, or moped etc. It wasn’t long ago that kids used to wear ice cream containers/buckets with eyes drawn on them to scare of the birds. I think the reason you’re not allowed to film on public transport, is so passengers can feel at ease, when using the public transport system, without fear of being filmed. People still pull out their phones and film when there’s a racist attack (usually some drunk bogan giving an Asian a hard time)or some kind of nasty thing going on, or a fight, which they then post on social media. It doesn’t happen much, but it can. I think the $10 go-card is a rip-off, and you should only be paying for the fair but I guess Brisbane City Council has to make their revenue somehow, to pay for the clean streets, and such. Thank you for visiting. It’s not only older people who will be friendly. Brisbane is well known for its warm friendly and inviting people/environment. It’s often refereed to “still a small country town”. Hope that won’t change as our city infrastructure gets bigger, with new builds and projects under way, preparing for the Olympics next decade.
Hey There - just discovered your channel - love it. I love the quality of the picture in your videos - would you mind listing the camera gear you are using in this video ? Many Thanks

First big mistake. Most of Starbucks around Australia went broke because their coffee is trash. Melbourne is the coffee capital of Australia, and down there everybody was horrified with Starbucks. I have no doubt that there will be some good coffee shops in Brisbane, so go and find them and stop drinking that garbage.

It’s too late now but there is a free boat that goes up and down the river. It’s very slow and always full. Lol 😂 I did find that out from my parents.
Don’t miss New Farm park
Hey There - just discovered your channel - love it. I love the quality of the picture in your videos - would you mind listing the camera gear you are using in this video ? Many Thanks
Great video! GO cards are awesome. Basically one card for all public transport.
I don’t eat Maccas but I would assume an Aussie Angus would have either beetroot or fried egg on it because they’re common on hamburgers here.
OMG! Starbucks. Who drinks coffee at Starbucks. We have so many amazing places to geta coffee.
The $10 for a ‘go’ card is a deposit. You can fill out a form on the website to get your money back :)
Good to know, thank you!
Some roads/bridges are toll roads and when we hired a car and used Google maps we ended up having to purchase a toll pas s from a 7/11. If you do hire a car, make sure your car hire company gets a copy of that receipt as our car hire company tried to make up pay a $40 penalty.
Can't believe you went to Starbucks, this is Australia mate, best coffee in the world,Starbucks is shit
We’ve found this to be true! 😂
Welcome
Thank you :)
Welcome to Brisbane.
There’s a hidden treasure near Brisbane called Woodridge. Nicest people in Australia and possibly the safest place
Welcome to Bris-vagas 🤩
Beautiful one day - Perfect the next !
Next time your in town, I’ll show you around Glasshouse Mts (1hr north of Brisbane) Natures Perfection 🤩
welcome to brisbane!!
thank you!
Try to visit the hinterland of Brisbane
Aussie Angus ( the beef is from the Angus cow, very tasty) and the burger has the Aussie additions (missing the egg) with a good brioche bun... Try Hungry Jack's known as Burger King in Canada.
Thanks for the info!
Aussie Angus is a burger with a bovine called Angus. A rich tender beef
Starbucks went broke in Australia because we are such coffee snobs.
We have quickly grown to appreciate the local coffee here far more than the “big brands” 🙂
No!! City hopper is free, goes up and down river, just not as far or fast as city cat :)
I've been in Brisbane for the last 63 years.
Not me trying to look out for the places I’ve been absolutely shit faced 😂😂
Please try better coffee than starbucks while in australia
Hahaha, I was waiting for that comment. No Aussie wants to see any tourist in a Starbucks lol
Noted! We have 😂 we’ve learned quickly that your coffee is better than Starbucks!
@@drewanthonyb If you ever do a "Things to know when visiting Oz" kind of list. Just make sure that you add, drinking in Starbucks is fine, just ensure that you are never seen by a local or video yourself committing the crime lol.
You'll be saving more tourists from ravaging coffee-loving Aussies than you can possibly know lol
Mate they found a bull shark in the Mississippi River bull sharks are everywhere but also more deadly then a white pointer
You get your go card deposit back before you leave 👍🏼
Ozzie burgers have "Beetroot" in them
If you come to Sydney, you can use a normal credit card to tap on and off public transport
looking good Roo Roo and Bride 😀
"What are they gonna swoop at, our heads" ?
Yep. In particular, your eyes. Be careful!
For coffee you should go to John Mills Himself in Brisbane CBD
Angus is a cow breed. 🐄 p.s welcome, hope you both love it here.
Anyone visiting Brisbane for even a few days should get over the Stradbroke Island. Easy to do by public transport/Ferry - Point Lookout. The Gorge Walk is very special and you'll see a myriad of wild life and sea creatures including Whales if it's the right time of year.
Find a Burger Fuel, they are rare but leave Maccas in the dust.
because the angus cow was born and raised in Australia and if there is a chance to name some Australian we take it
Angus is the beef an Australian cattle feed on grass
Starbucks… Brisbane ….. not a thing. That might be the last Starbucks here. Thanks for your beautiful review!
You missed appreation of Brisbanes trees!
Starbucks failed in Aus, and has reopened in high tourist areas where people dont know any better,
We have since found better 😉
them: 'What are they gonna swoop at? Our heads?'
Me: Yes-
Also tip for when you are here again make sure that you wear some sort of sun protection, even in winter, QLD is the cancer capital of the world! Also when you order from Hungry Jacks(Burger King) when you say Whopper, don't pronounce the 'er', say it as whoppa, seen a few people struggle with it lol! You can also tour old Parliament house and see the old room parliament was held in, it was super interesting and I highly recommend I got to go there during 6th grade!
Thanks for your comment! If you have further questions or enquiries about our tiny homes, please visit our website at www.drewanthony.ca and we'll be happy to help!
I definitely say Strauss is the best.....I may be bias because my son owns it
You can get a refund on any unused go card travel credit and the deposit, minus any outstanding fares, fees and charges.
you guys need some hats, the sun will cook you, when you are walking around
You’re absolutely right! The sun hits different here lol!
Watch out for the magpies bruz
Streets are clean...thats because we have garbage collectors collecting the trash from bins etc. They come quite often here. Seems weird that wouldn't happen in Canada - maybe the influence of your neighbour at work there lol
And then ya went to Maccas? Hahaha, welcome to Aust.
Coffee - Starbucks.....WTF
There is no regulation prohibiting filming in a public place like in public transport. Tell transport employees to go jump in the river.
Good to know! It’s difficult to know what’s acceptable when we arrive in a new country 🙂
All the way to Oz and you go to a Starbucks? Any cafe will serve better coffee than the dross they serve up.
We gravitate to what’s familiar lol! Fortunately we have found the local coffee shops and absolutely LOVE them! 🙂
@@drewanthonyb Good to hear. Hope you enjoyed my home town.
your go card lets you get on trains so you can even come down to the gold coast-welcome
Beetroot makes it Aussie!😂
Starbucks is the worst coffee in Australia.
We quickly found out the local coffee shops are incredible!
@@drewanthonyb 👍
Not Starbucks. Yuk
an "Aussie angus" is simply a normal burger but just made from australian beef
Shocked that you’d drink Starbucks in Australia “the coffee capital of the world”. Points off bro!
I’m not subbing until you get your head in the right place. Gees!
Don't worry... video coming soon ;)
@@drewanthonyb Thank Buddha! It’s a Karmic miracle. 🙏
Starbucks, Seriously!!
All the way to Australia and you have Starbucks. 🤔🤔
Don't worry, we have lots of time to explore the local coffee spots :)
