@@ThisIsOurRetirement We've been on the ferry to Tassie. The day we went the attendant said that when they berthed the ferry was the color of vomit green (literally) from the very rough seas on the trip over ! Both times on the ferry have been very smooth sailing.
Sounds like you were shocked by a lot of things in Australia🙂I used to live there before moving back to Scandinavia and I loved every second of the 18 years living on the Gold Coast. Interesting to hear about your experiences when visiting Australia. Hopefully at the end, it was a great visit and maybe you'll be back when this pandemic is over.🙂👍
Thanks for the info, our budget airline from Sydney to Brisbane was late arriving in Brisbane and they don’t forward luggage, so we had to wait to pick up our luggage at the carousel. We needed the fastest way to get to the International terminal as our Canada flight was boarding.
We emigrated to Australia in 1988 and have never looked back. Best country in the world 🌍 What you said about the spraying on the plane they did when come but it’s no longer used . Hi Norm & Tina! Thank you for sharing us your retirement experiences travel. We are also a retired couple, Leo and Lulu from the Philippines and retired both at 50yo. Then, migrated to NZ and now living in Melbourne, Au. We shared also some of our travel in Europe and in US/Canada in our Pinoy Lololola Channel. I know you’re already a subs and we thank you so much for it. We will continue watching your video since it gives us also some things that we could also do when everything get normal after pandemic. Always keep safe and healthy. Enjoy our retirement life and God bless.
You guys are so lovely. Me and my daughter maybe going to Canada when it opens. It was very beautiful there in Australia. I love to visit Australia one day.
Ahh, you're a Victorian! Woolworths has been in Australia a very very long time. Like 1924. Safeway was primarily a Victorian thing, although they did have branches elsewhere. they were actually an American brand who still exist over there but sold up to Woolworths (Australia) in 1985. For reasons of brand recognition they continued to trade under Safeway in Victoria for many years after that, even though they were basically Woolworths stores carrying Woolworths products.
I’m a new subscriber in New Zealand. We’re similar age, my husband of 42 years retired in February at 67, I am almost 64, planning to retire at Christmas. Travel off the agenda for now but fortunately we have done a lot of travel. It’s living in the house together which has been a big adjustment! A work in progress and how I found your channel. Great work on your channel and your videos are just the right length Thank you so much.

Yes we had a great time , we were hearing about another lockdown in Sydney guess it’s happening everywhere we are in Stage two recovery in Canada Cheers 🇦🇺 🍷🇨🇦🍺
One of our best cruises was Sydney to NZ. Do not be afraid of crossing "the ditch", we had smooth sailings in December/January. Make sure to allow time in Australia. Sydney is an easy city to navigate with light rail trains and ferries in the harbor area. Tours from Sydney to the Blue Mountains and animal parks (no platypuses there) were great. NZ has such a variety of geological and scenic places to see. NZ was expecting quite an increase to their cruise traffic, preCovid and I am sure there will be after, when things settle down. Brilliant videos and looking forward to videos from your vacation lake front trailer life.
Hi guys! Appreciate your videos! I subscribe to a vlogger who is Australian and saw snow there in July. I was "shocked" to find out that their winter is June, July, and August
@ThisIsOurRetirement I guess I'm really stupid or you're really smart! I actually did well in school. Primary and advanced. But for some reason that never clicked. Whoa is me!
Woolworths in Australia is a totally unrelated and different company. The owner was being cheeky and was originally going to call the business "Wallworths" but decided to try Woolworths (which already existed elsewhere) and the trademark was allowed so he took it.
It’s only relatively recently that Woolworths supermarkets became Woollies…at least in Victoria. They were always Safeway here, but may have been Woollies in other states. The two big chains,Coles and Woollies, really only became what they are today in the 70s. Coles was a department store that (in the 50s) had nothing over 2/6. Everything was just small groceries.
@@pauldobson2529 Woolworths started in the 1920's and has been in all states since the 1940's. Safeway was an American company that bought out a store called Pratt's in the 1960's and spread mainly in Victoria, but also some stores in NSW and QLD...but Woolworths bought them out in 85. I'm from Adelaide and had never heard of Safeway until I went to Mildura back in the 90's...wondering why this Safeway had the same branding as Woolworths (the fresh food people). Then I also saw Safeway mentioned in movies in the US.
@@stevenbalekic5683 I just don’t recall many chain supermarkets before the 70s. Certainly around me (West St Kilda), everything was small groceries…even Foodland, which seems to thrive just in SA. We used to have Bi-Lo, Franklins but they got absorbed by the chains 20+ years ago. IGA (independent grocers) pretty much fill the gaps in regional towns. We only have one IGA in Port Fairy, but in Warrnambool, there are 3 Coles, 3 Woollies, 2 Aldi and an IGA.
@@pauldobson2529 I think there were more local independent stores everywhere...the growth of the chains is what killed the others because they can't compete when negotiating from farmers and suppliers for better deals. I was born in the 80's so I always only knew Woolworths, Woolworths Variety, Coles New World, Bi-Lo, Franklins and Foodland...also I remember there being Super Kmart.
You're not the only one caught out by Brissy airport. We once had a friend stopping at Brisbane for a 4 hourn transit stop between Somoa and Cyprus. So we decided to pay him a visit for a couple of hours, flying up from Sydney. Our flight was cancelled so we had to take a 2 hour later flight. I got a call from him as we landed asking for our ETA. We were disembarking so I told him 15 minutes. He said he was having a coffee at Michelle's (I think) cafe at the terminal. We rocked up there and he wasn't there of course. Another phone call didn't heip the confusion. It took a while before we realised we needed to catch a shuttle bus to the international terminal. What a day... two one hour flights for a one hour get together. I also had a bad experiance arriving in LA many years ago. Had a 4 hour layover before connection to San Francisco. I was stuck in a second customs line for an extra 2 hours because I couldn't give them the name of the hotel I was going to be staying at. (Rookie mistake) Result... a panic run to my connection.
Standard price (April 2023) of Johnny Walker Red label is $41.90 (700ml) and $59.90 (1 litre) at our major nationwide discount bottle shop. So A$60 a litre, which is US$40, C$54, €36 or £32. It isn't $87 per litre of whiskey in tax, it's taxed by weight of alcohol included within the product. So probably a tax of about $32 on that $60 one litre bottle. On the upside, this means you're better off buying something better than Johnny Walker Red, since regardless which whiskey you buy, $32 a litre is tax. The gap between the cheaper products and something a bit better quality is smaller than it is elsewhere.
Had a good laugh at your comments about Australia as it’s our home. We’re from Sydney…if you ever make your way back I have a bottle of Red Johnny Walker Scotch you’re welcome to have, we don’t drink it 😂 and yes our alcohol is expensive but hey doesn’t stop us Aussies we do like a drink or two. The spraying in the plane, we don’t even batter an eye as I guess we’re used to it. Haha Christmas in Summer in Australia with no snow…oh a white Christmas is on our bucket list. It’s always way too hot here on Christmas Day 🥵 good fun video guys thank you ❤
The terminals are 4 kilometres apart, there is a bus transfer that takes 10 minutes after you have waited for it. You did here we were late arriving into the domestic terminal for an international flight. Hey don’t take our word for it, www.bne.com.au/passenger/passenger-information/transferring-between-flights

Woolworths {with an s} in Australia is a totally different Australian owned company to Woolworth [without the s] outside Australia [except NZ]. It is our largest supermarket chain in Australia.
The writer and critic Phillip Tench writing a short piece in the 'Time Out', wrote that the scuptures by Rayner Hoff there of the dead are the most moving of any war memorial he has ever seen. ..........The Aussie Spurs Fan.
As an Aussie I loved this. Yup, Welcome to Australia by way of fumigation hahaha I had forgotten that we do that on flights until my last trip home from the USA. Oh my yes Woollies is huge here! Canada is our first destination as soon as we can travel again! Can’t wait.
That’s great, thank you for your positive comment, we loved our trip to Australia and New Zealand. We hope you have a great trip to Canada. We too are hoping for future travels when it is safe to do so.
I love the nonchalant way the proses is done. Spray cans at the ready - let’s kill these suckers! God knows what is in those cans because I have been hit countless times!🤪🤣 PS I love Canada though I have never been east of Calgary. By coincidence my dentist and optician are both Canadians from Calgary. My dentist’s wife has just had a baby and her mothers’ group has another lady from Edmonton. Small world.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement ok well that might be their policy because I’ve been flying with qantas for most of my international flights the past ten years and it’s never happened on over 30 flights. My trip to Austria on Air France had us sprayed at our stopover in Kuala Lumpur but that was back in 2003. Didn’t realise it was still a thing.
Talking about how 'it is good to see how Woolworths are still in business and successful'...as an Aussie that hits differently lol. They, along with another company 'Coles' have the monopoly on groceries here and we are currently very much going through a living crisis with food prices being at an insane expense for families who are really struggling atm to get by.
It is the same in Canada, with three companies controlling the supermarket business and food inflation making it difficult for many Canadians to buy necessary food. We were just reminiscing about seeing Woolworths as we grew up with British Woolworths. We know Australian Woolworths is not related, just a memory trigger for us. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Woolworths in Australia is a completely different company to Woolworths in the UK. When the founders of the supermarket chain began in Australia they decided to use the same name because it was so well known in the UK and abroad. Although they did this the Woolworths company in Australia never saw any legal action from Woolworths UK.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Indeed, when Woolworths started operation here, it was not a supermarket, but a variety store selling a whole range of inexpensive clothes, household items and the like. No self serve, of course, shop assistants to attend to you. Each store had a small section near a door onto the street (remember shopping streets?) where you could buy soft-serve ice-creams and soft drinks.
Enjoyed! My husband and I had a Celebrity Cruise booked last November for New Zealand and Australia, of course all was cancelled. We're hoping to rebook for nexted year! Fingers crossed 🤞☺️
Do not know if you are now aware - but Woolworths in Australia has absolutly no connection with the U.S.A. or UK woolworths. it was an Australian businessman who liked the name and used it for his australin venture- you should add it is a food out let unlike the variety store outlets overseas. you commented at the high price of whiskey but failed to mention the low price of wine and also they drive on the correct side as it dates back to the middle ages when horse riderd passed on the left hand side leaving their sword arm free in case it was not a frendly encounter.
Thanks for sharing yes we did know we were just having a bit of fun 🤩 as it was the same name , actually didn’t think the wine price was cheap Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Hey Tina and Norm! Nice hat Norm! So cool to see this video on what shocked you about Australia. Butters has been there before and said she really loved spending time there. That's wild they were spraying all your luggage with air freshener. Very odd! LOL.. Why did they do that with people on the plane? Very toxic for the lungs. Interesting to hear how expensive the alcohol was there. Crazy to hear the sea's were so rough down there on the ship. The skipping dinner totally makes sense that night LOL. The views you got a night were stunning. We can imagine you have some great photos from that trip. Nice they had a mailbox to Santa.. Great video and love you guys to the moon! As an Australian who NOW does not smoke or drink, I find it is great my fellow Australians pay all that tax for me that I would otherwise have to pay. And I can go to functions without the fear that I might get breathalysed on the way home. Temperence (yes I do still drink lots of strong coffee in spite of a heart condition, though not quite the 7 or 8 a day prior to retirement) has its benefits.
Here in South Africa a bottle of Johnny Walker Red costs around 300 South African Rands, - equivalent to about 26 Canadian dollars. Our wine is excellent as we have many vineyards, so expensive wines are very good but even the cheaper ones are good (around 5 or 6 Canadian dollars). For 10 dollars you would get a truly fantastic wine here. We also have Woolworths in SA, and our Woolworths Holdings owns Country Road and David Jones in Australia, but nothing to do with Woolworths Australia. Woolworths here is an upmarket supermarket/store, just like Marks & Spencer in the UK. We also have Christmas in summer, like Australia, no snow. I am enjoying all your videos very much, and love hearing about how different things are in other places!
Wow thanks for your insights into South Africa a country we don’t really know. When growing up in the sixties my Father would buy a liquor from SA called Van Der Hum, he loved it. In Canada we are slowly getting South African wine back. In the UK way back, South African wine was where Australian wines are now. I guess politics got in the way. Thanks for watching our videos.
Haha , sometimes we don’t know what we think we know , rough waters are not something I can tolerate 🤢 Bill has been to Australia played hockey there .I would to eat at Floria’s Bill would definitely wait outside. Great share beautiful pictures ✨🥂🍾
I left from Sydney to cruise around the South Pacific and the return into Sydney is the highlight. I’m glad you got to my home state of Tassie. Enjoying your channel. 😍
Nice to see guys! I remember Woolworth..I love going to shop there. When we came to Canada around 1973 Woolwoorth was all over the country. I actually went on labour carrying my second child while buying baby clothes. That was in Barrie, Ont. Well, nice to hear of your adventures. Keep it coming and stay healthy.
Great topic, I lived in England for 40 years before moving to Oz and I have travelled to both sides of Canada, not the middle, yet. The similarities are felt, easy going society, safe and cheerful but the arrival fumigation isn't the greatest welcome all the same. I was laughing all the way through as to Aussies, you both sounded like "whinging poms", which I have been called hundreds of times over the past few decades. It's best seen as a term of endearment and not something to complain about lol. thanks for a great video
It's Woolworths, Australia, a totally different company than the one you had. Sydney has as much diversity of food as Melbourne, if not more. Tourists very rarely seem to leave the tourist area. Chinatown, has food from at least 12 different countries and it is in the main part of the city, not far from Hyde Park. I used to have to fly out of Brisbane to travel to Taipei. I always made sure that I left plenty of time from my Sydney flight. There are buses between the terminals but obviously that wouldn't have worked for you.
Woolworths (also known a Woolies in Australia) is an Australian company and has nothing to do with the Woolworth that you probably knew in your home country.
Great video folks! 🙂 Is Woolworths Australia the same as UK? No, it's a completely different business, established and incorporated in Australia in 1924. “Woolworths Limited has never had any connection with FW Woolworth either in the US or the UK,” said Mr Ward. “The only conflict we have had was when Woolworths Limited established its buying office in London in 1929 and was unable to use the name Woolworths as it was already registered in the UK. Cheers!
The comment we made about Woolworths was purely out of nostalgia because Woolworths while being a different company outside of Australia, no longer exists. Thanks for your kind polite comment we appreciate it.😀😀🇦🇺🇨🇦
Woolworths is a separate company opened in 1924 it's never been a subsidiary of a foreign company. Buying your booze at the wrong place. Spraying for insects is mandatory in Australia. There is a train that takes a couple of minutes between the terminals.
I been around a bit from Australia, and 2 of my favourite places i have been are Canada and Portugal, and i must admit it is just because of the people from there. The people there i find do not at all take themself's very seriously, and at the same time are very friendly and helpful do unde-rate how visitors see them..........The Aussie Spurs Fan.
Canada and Australians are very similar. I noticed that when I visited Canada. Re alcohol you can get a decent bottle of wine for $15 or look for clean skin bottles (of course if you visit again and drink wine that is). Great vid
G,day, watched a number of your videos, very informative. My wife and I emigrated from Derby U.K. in 1975 ( You know why!) , We live in Adelaide, South Australia, and have travelled throughout Australia over the years, its a great place! The UK unfortunately is in a rapid decline on all fronts!! But the weather will always be the same!! Like your videos, keep up the good work!! P.S. Good cheap wine in South Australia!! Merry Xmas!!
Hello David, Thanks for finding and watching our videos we appreciate it. We are glad your emigration worked out so well, we feel very lucky to be living in Canada, even though we are in the middle of a once in a lifetime winter storm that is brutal. Merry Christmas 🎄
In regards to the insect spray on arrival, there should have been a video about quarantine requirements and a cabin announcement about the spraying. I was in the aviation industry from 1973 to 2021 and up until the early 90’s every arrival in Australia was sprayed. Currently Australian and New Zealand airlines regularly with a surface spray (pyrethrum based) to kill any insects picked up outside Australia therefore not requiring a manual spray on arrival, probably not economically viable for overseas airlines to do this and provide supporting paperwork to authorities for each arrival. It is all to protect Australia’s unique ecosystems and clean agricultural exports, both could be devastated if the wrong insect or disease got in. Enjoy your travels.
Thanks for your explanation Simon, we did understand why they were spraying, as you say to protect from invasive species. Like you say if there was advance notice and an information video or seat back card it would have helped reduce the shock or surprise of spraying.
We had some fabulous Indian food in Melbourne from a place just near the station , only there one day on our cruise 🚢 but loved the place Cheers 🇦🇺 🍷🇨🇦🍺
Hi , so good to see you. I'm going through a lot at mo so its good to switch off and smile as well. Wishing you a lovely day. All love and best wishes 💖 🏴🍷🍺
They should spray after people have exited. Unless it’s for the luggage. But if the bugs are inside the luggage, I don’t see how that spray is doing much good.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement I went to Australia 8 years ago. My route was from Calgary->L.A.->Melbourne and when we arrived in Melbourne, they never did this. Spray I mean. Since this was my FIRST BIG TRIP I flew FIRST CLASS all the way. What an adventure!!
I don't know where you were shopping but a one litre bottle of Johnny Walker red is about AUD $58.00. Alcohol and cigarettes are heavily taxed in Australia, the rationale being, both can have an affect on a person's health, so the tax is supposed to discourage people from drinking and smoking.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Understood. I'm not saying the taxation policy is of any value. It may prompt some people to quit smoking or drinking, but the reality is, it's just an excuse to grab more money from the taxpayer.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Agreed, mind you, in your comment you mentioned "If it works why isn't the US and Europe using it". I will say the US government NEVER adopts anything from the rest of the world. Some examples might be, the metric system, universal healthcare, gun control, a shorter working week, paid public holidays, I could go on.

@@ThisIsOurRetirement We've been on the ferry to Tassie. The day we went the attendant said that when they berthed the ferry was the color of vomit green (literally) from the very rough seas on the trip over ! Both times on the ferry have been very smooth sailing.
Can't wait to visit Australia someday. Thanks for sharing about your experience!
We hope you get to visit it’s a great place Cheers 🇦🇺 🍺🍷
Thanks for watching
Similar to Canada very large with the population on a thin ribbon of real estate
Sounds like you were shocked by a lot of things in Australia🙂I used to live there before moving back to Scandinavia and I loved every second of the 18 years living on the Gold Coast. Interesting to hear about your experiences when visiting Australia. Hopefully at the end, it was a great visit and maybe you'll be back when this pandemic is over.🙂👍
It was a great visit, once in a lifetime

Thanks for the info, our budget airline from Sydney to Brisbane was late arriving in Brisbane and they don’t forward luggage, so we had to wait to pick up our luggage at the carousel. We needed the fastest way to get to the International terminal as our Canada flight was boarding.
Enjoyed video very much. We to are Vintage ... retired so your adventures are very informative. Thank you, Norman and Tina.
We are so glad you enjoy our videos, people pay big bucks for vintage wines and cars, so we should all be good! Thanks for watching we appreciate it.
We emigrated to Australia in 1988 and have never looked back. Best country in the world 🌍 What you said about the spraying on the plane they did when come but it’s no longer used . I live in Australia. Woolworths are actually new here. Until a few years ago they were called Safeway.
Thanks for sharing have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🇳🇿🇨🇦🍺
Not true! Woolworths have been around for decades. They may have recently taken over Safeway in your state.
They just changed name
I’m a new subscriber in New Zealand. We’re similar age, my husband of 42 years retired in February at 67, I am almost 64, planning to retire at Christmas.

So you did our cruise 🚢 in reverse we really enjoyed it hope you have a great week Cheers 🇦🇺🍺🍷🇨🇦

Thanks for sharing we did find that out Steven Cheers 🇦🇺 🍷🌺🙂🇨🇦
It’s only relatively recently that Woolworths supermarkets became Woollies…at least in Victoria. They were always Safeway here, but may have been Woollies in other states. The two big chains,Coles and Woollies, really only became what they are today in the 70s. Coles was a department store that (in the 50s) had nothing over 2/6. Everything was just small groceries.
@@pauldobson2529
Woolworths started in the 1920's and has been in all states since the 1940's.
@@pauldobson2529
I think there were more local independent stores everywhere...the growth of the chains is what killed the others because they can't compete when negotiating from farmers and suppliers for better deals.
Sounds like the fun and unknown of travelling LOL 😂😂 have a great day Cheers 🍷🇦🇺🍺🇨🇦
Thanks for sharing Andy Cheers 🥃🇦🇺🇨🇦🍷🙂

The only plane I’ve ever been sprayed on is at KL in Malaysia.
Which airline did you fly with?
Air Canada
@@ThisIsOurRetirement ok well that might be their policy because I’ve been flying with qantas for most of my international flights the past ten years and it’s never happened on over 30 flights. My trip to Austria on Air France had us sprayed at our stopover in Kuala Lumpur but that was back in 2003. Didn’t realise it was still a thing.
Australia has some countries listed that they require spraying, Canada is one...because of bugs.

Thanks for sharing.

I really enjoy your videos! Keep it up!👏🤗❤
Thank you so much 🤗
Do not know if you are now aware - but Woolworths in Australia has absolutly no connection with the U.S.A. or UK woolworths. it was an Australian businessman who liked the name and used it for his australin venture- you should add it is a food out let unlike the variety store outlets overseas. you commented at the high price of whiskey but failed to mention the low price of wine and also they drive on the correct side as it dates back to the middle ages when horse riderd passed on the left hand side leaving their sword arm free in case it was not a frendly encounter.

Wow very interesting Cheers 🍷🇦🇺🍺🇨🇦
Great topic, I lived in England for 40 years before moving to Oz and I have travelled to both sides of Canada, not the middle, yet. The similarities are felt, easy going society, safe and cheerful but the arrival fumigation isn't the greatest welcome all the same. I was laughing all the way through as to Aussies, you both sounded like "whinging poms", which I have been called hundreds of times over the past few decades. It's best seen as a term of endearment and not something to complain about lol. thanks for a great video
Yes you are right, unfortunately humour seems to be in short supply on RUclips, so yes we were winging poms 😂😂
I didn't think Woolworths here was related to the one in the UK
And, there was also another one in the USA
It's Woolworths, Australia, a totally different company than the one you had. Sydney has as much diversity of food as Melbourne, if not more. Tourists very rarely seem to leave the tourist area. Chinatown, has food from at least 12 different countries and it is in the main part of the city, not far from Hyde Park. I used to have to fly out of Brisbane to travel to Taipei. I always made sure that I left plenty of time from my Sydney flight. There are buses between the terminals but obviously that wouldn't have worked for you.
Yes, I seem to remember seeing the stores called Woolworth in Britain; no "s". Different spelling.
Wishful thinking Sydney.
Booz is not expensive when you consider our income and minimum wage
Perhaps that’s true a good point Cheers 🍷🇦🇺🌺🍺
Woolworths (also known a Woolies in Australia) is an Australian company and has nothing to do with the Woolworth that you probably knew in your home country.
Thanks Gregory yes lots of comments have mentioned it , we were just having a bit of fun Cheers 🍷🇦🇺🇨🇦🍺
Great video folks! 🙂
Is Woolworths Australia the same as UK?

Hello David, Thanks for finding and watching our videos we appreciate it. We are glad your emigration worked out so well, we feel very lucky to be living in Canada, even though we are in the middle of a once in a lifetime winter storm that is brutal. Merry Christmas 🎄
My gosh - just as well you didn't get to Toowoomba - you have have been really shocked! We don"t spray, we just dip!
That is bahhhh living 🐑🐏🐑🐏
I’ve heard that Melbourne is a foodie destination.

We do understand taxation as a deterrent (sin tax), if it works why isn’t it widely adopted in Europe and America.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Understood. I'm not saying the taxation policy is of any value. It may prompt some people to quit smoking or drinking, but the reality is, it's just an excuse to grab more money from the taxpayer.
It’s an easy target for politicians 😀😀
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Agreed, mind you, in your comment you mentioned "If it works why isn't the US and Europe using it". I will say the US government NEVER adopts anything from the rest of the world. Some examples might be, the metric system, universal healthcare, gun control, a shorter working week, paid public holidays, I could go on.
That's an excuse. The government doesn't care about your health It's an easy tax grab.Cigarette tax is implemented 4 times a year
Your such a sweet couple.still sound soooo English after all your yrs in Canada.. but then so do we after all our yrs in the Netherlands (30) . Now in Portugal.. After NL's freezing winters we simple couldn't go back to our Northern UK roots. I hate snow.and being cold.!! We realised the other day when worrying about Covid and relatives that ALL our family now live outside of the UK all around the world .. Barr one in a home ,and one up on the Scottish border. We all live on the peripheries or coasts as well. It has served us well in avoiding CV19... All your 'shocks ' have been ours at one time or another . The best however has bene how utterly wonderful it is to live in Portugal .. Sun ,sea beaches ,warmth, amazing food, not expensive , lovely people and not that far from the UK for visits. Australia was great ) my sister and her family live there ) considered it for awhile. but just too far away from Europe and all that had to offer....
Sounds like you made a great choice hope you keep happy and well during all this Covid restrictions Cheers 🍷🇵🇹🍺🇨🇦
