The crew started the day rolling out of the cornfields of Iowa ready to pound some pavement following General Rick Péwé. Not knowing what was in store, they were ready for another epically long road day, a day with wheeling, fun stops, pie, and almost anything. Suddenly the group turns off the paved road onto dirt near Smithfield, Illinois. Here they found plenty of action in the form of a flowing creek and slick hill climbs at Engquist Farms. After splashing and slinging muck up the hills the group headed to another property. With more grade, more rocks, and less greasy mud, the slope known as Rock Hill gave the crew a different kind of challenge. After airing their tires back up, the second road day came to an end.

There is actually a cook book for cooking on your car engine called "Manifold Destiny". I dunno though. Seems like it would be Benzine flavored.

Its a shame Nitto obviously has a hand in this, wouldve loved to see some of these rigs running super swampers or boggers. They probably wouldve done a lot better in the last episode too.

IncogInfidel Fuel tanks aren't often a flat, even surface inside, and even if they are, I can't recall a stock tank that is designed efficiently enough to pull all the fuel, you're trying to throw the fuel into the pick up tube. I've ran out of gas a few times driving land yacht's, this can help.
Both wrong. It's because the vapor recovery system in the pump shuts off the fuel if it goes any faster than a trickle. Holding it upside down or at a wierd angle helps speed up the fow before it trips off.

Any issues with having the remote reservoirs so close to the engine at 5:27? The shocks probably aren't generating a lot of heat on this trip but I'd think on some trails that really put the suspension through its paces, they'd heat up pretty good

This really makes me want an M37, but I know to buy one and get it running well will cost in the magnitude of 20k-30k for an uncomfortable vehicle that can barely do highway speeds.

Did he keep the same engine in the CUCV (the GM 6.2L diesel V8) or did he convert it to a Cummins
The CUCV in this episode isn't the same one that Fred built. This one sounds like it has a 6BT Cummins in it, the one Fred built had a 6.2L supercharged gas motor swapped into it.

Oh my god! The old guy with a suzuki didn't know how to check engine oil quantity! You should first wipe the stick clean, then dip it and look the level. He just looked at he the stick without wiping it and said: hard to tell. Of course it is har to tell, because the stick is covered with splattered oil. P.S. You don't need to wipe the stick before putting it back.
Maybe he pulled the stick out to see if there was any metal on it, then wiped it and put the stick back in so he could check the level.......

How far wrong could you be? Well for starts, Tim made that Zuk with extra tin cans he found behind his house. Tim is a true MacGyver, he has restored and built vintage cars and has made parts from scratch that no longer exist for vintage car collections he was the care taker of. I know you do not know Tim, sometimes the camera man says, "can you do that again?" thus sometimes what you see is the second take.

Jerome Burrasca I'm just saying there is required equipment for this event. You have to have at least a 35" tall tire, front and rear locking differentials, and a winch.
Metcalf I know, it probably wouldn't hurt to have a high mount fresh air breather for the engine as well. It's a huge commitment of time and money to do this type of driving. I would just use the Wranger to get me up to Tahoe for snowboarding and camping weekend trips. Doing these kinds of mods turns every day drivers into occasional use toys. You might be better off just buying a dirt bike for this type of driving, or a small all terrain vehicle.
That isn't the point. Myself and all these people really like this sport. We covered over 1000 miles during the event and more getting there and home. I put over 3150 miles on my rig for the entire trip. These vehicles have to strike a very unique balance between road manors and off road performance.

The frame is still mostly straight-ish. The rocker guards have been bent upward over the few million miles this thing spent on the trail. It actually helps him out of the trail having the extra clearance.....

Stupid idea but an extra can of gas wouldn't be a bad thing to have.
Eventually you run out of room to take everything and have to compromise. Rick's has some issues with fuel range but it was abnormal, I think the engine was running open loop all the time or the fuel pickup may have not been getting all the fuel out of the tank....
