I got one of these little heads and played live through an SVT 4x10 half
cab.My guitar player has a loud 50 watt Plexi and I kept up with him,no problem.Everyone was amazed at the tone and power. The cab.was 4 ohms so it sounded fab.
Would recommend any day,My SVT Pro head sat home that night.

Great review ,, the fact that you gigged with this twice shows what a "real life" review this is . I used Trace Elliot years ago , they were very reliable and had a signature sound . At 200 watts 4 ohms its a little underpowered for gigs by its self but with the PA it would be fine . It would also be great to have in your bag as a backup amp to your main amp just incase your main amp died during a gig .

It is remarkable how that Trace Elliott signature sound is instantly apparent. Such a great and unique sound. I'm not a bass player but I definitely want to pick one up for the home studio. My question is, Was Trace Elliott ever known for having Tube heads or were all their amps, despite their size and weight, all solid state?

Hi. You've mentioned the protection circuit. That's actually not the amp. The amp is just monitoring the movement of your speaker. When the movement becomes too noticable - protection is kicking in. Maybe you've got some problems in speaker.

I use it live with a Glockenklang Duo 8 ohm cab which I'm normaly powering with an Ampeg SVT7. If you crank up the gain beyond the compressing setting you get some really nice tube like distortion. The led flashes up orange to indicate it's distorting. I did a 60's/70's rock/blues backyard gig without PA support and it just rocks (130 Watts).
This amp has basically 3 sounds:
    - Clean and dynamic
    - clean and compressed and
    - Ampeg.
    Try it.

Nice! I have the Elf Mico Head with matching 2x8 cab and it's awesome. I doom the crap out of it with the nastiest fuzz on the planet and it delivers. Love it.

Hi Gaz, I learned from another review of this amp from Guitar Interactive that the Gain control is actually multi-functional. At lower settings, it serves as a standard input level control. As you roll up on the Gain, as I'm sure you know, the compression kicks in, and that's its second function. If you max out the Gain (presumably rolling back the volume first), it distorts and starts serving as a driver.
Just thought I'd share. I love my Elf system. I've been running the single 1x10 for a while, and I just ordered a second 1x10 to punch up to the full 200 watt, 4 ohm system.
Thanks for the review! I found the insights on live situations quite informative.

It is the problem with some class D amps of not having the true headroom.
Nice tones, though personally I would be wanting to push the bass and mids...
Might be tempted to try one.

I would like to see it mated to a BBC 112 cab. A 25lbs cab with a 1lbs head! I’m sold.

Gain control has a built-in compressor start kicking in from somewhere 9 to 1-o'clock anything passes the 1 O'clock will kicked in the overdrive

I hope you enjoy yours as much I do for mine. I recently jammed at loud volumes with a guitar buddy who was using a Blackstar 60W through a Fender Supersonic cabinet. My bass was a Tobias Killer B4, with the 2x8 cab he was astonished at how good it sounded and how it could develop good volume without going totally bonkers.

Nice one Gaz! I’m not bassist at all, but enjoyed this. What type of mic did you use/ compression/ noise gate? You’ve got rare pleasant RUclips vox audio here. Surprisingly big audio manufacturers with crap room sound videos could learn from this.
NB. great ‘Messias’ stage moment 🤣

    • @sonicstate

Mic used was a Countryman E6 (headset version) - a little bit of vocal compression plugin in the NLE (no treatment at all on the DI or bass cab mic), and manual ducking (in the edit) of the vocal track when playing.
Easy to hide the mic in Gaz's voluminous beard ;-]

sonicstate thanks! 👍🏻Gaz is a gem. His carisma, openness and playful attitude would’ve made a super enjoyable TV show! Imagine him traveling the world with his bass and a case full of small synths and pedals.. Meeting and jamming with street and studio musicians from Africa, Jamaica, Australia, Japan, South and North America,...Bring Chickie Reeves along and record an album as you go... 🤠
Now THAT’s something I’d love to see! Call the BBC and pitch them the idea please..I’ve already packed my Sunday best Speedos..😅
I hope you read this Gaz..

@ 6:35... with gain set at 11 o´clock (i.e. with loads of spare headroom) & full vol, any amount of clipping / distortion is likely to be determined by choice of speaker (power / impedance thresholds). As you correctly said earlier, there seems to be some kind of limiter kicking in when the gain is cranked, and that´s what would probably strangle your sound. What was your set-up that night on the gig?!

companies buy companies(well they buy company names, do as they wish with the product, and hope the publics loyalty to the brand, even if the brand is nothing but a name, doesn't waiver)every day.But I've always loved Trace and Although Peavey has purchased Trace Elliot, they have not messed with the British design of it, and why should they, they surely purchased it on it's own merits and they have their own tried and true products, no need to slap a Trace green paint job on a peavey product. It doesn't hurt that the factory is a 3 hour drive from my house if I ever needed my equipment serviced.. I've owned an array of old school 1200's, (blacklight and weighing more than the bass cabs i used, and currently using a 600 modern peavey era. I've logged more time "demoing " these elf's the guy's that own them so is I guess I should buy one(the marked down floor model preferably) I think it's just a bit small to gig with is my hold back.I wish there was a 400 model or thereabouts.
