I love Ray's gunsmithing videos. Eric and Chad are good too, but there's just something about Ray's no-nonsense, almost humble delivery that appeals. Also Mark from C&Rsenal. Reminds me of when I was a kid helping my grandfather in his machine shop (shed, actually) making miniature steam locomotives. Edit to clarify that "helping" mainly consisted of making the tea and sandwiches. Well, to be fair, fetching the tea and sandwiches that Gran made.
Thanks Ray, thx iv8. This been my fav video series to watch. Really like everything about this very real, better budget build, whatever you want to call it. Except now all my favorite $200 rifle is cost now like $600.... because of you Great videos, this type of thing is my favorite subject, and I love old rifle and shotguns so much
Matthew Barlow most people are so damned attention deficit these days, they can barely wipe their ass or finish a two word conversation, let alone see what exactly it is they are “disliking”. Hard for me to believe there’s much validity in that gesture...
Some people are just contrarian dicks who'll downvote because it's the opposite of what everybody else does. Rotten tomatoes is prime example of that. Douchebags will give movies a bad rating just to keep them from having a 100% rating.
IDeO very true. There are lot of people that way. Had friends when I was young that didn’t like normalcy, hated easy going, good natured folk; felt somewhat threatened with kindness, and could only deliver a compliment with a smirk. Today, we know them as LIBERALS lol
I like to put my first bend a bit closer for the bolt body, so my top corner is nearly square, just for ascetics though , and your result looks very nice. I enjoy this projects like this. And a lot more now that I do it for fun and not for food! great video thanks.
Ray, you give great instruction. You give me the motivation and confidence to do my own projects. I have watch you fo the Saiga build and others. Great work.
Just bought a Husqvarna and i am gonna do some of the stuff you and Eric have shown in the series. I'm just wondering if there was a video made about fixing the rest of the stock. Can't find it if that's the case. Can someone link to the video if it?
I would think it would definitely take away any temper from the steel. How far the heat travels and it's temperature will determine if the bolt is weakened. I don't think I would want this done to any of my guns.
It depends on the steel (like ^ he said) but also how long you heat it for. The longer it's not, the more time the heat is to sink into the rest of the bolt. But it'll be fine. He should have had that torch screaming, heated up the bend area, hit it once to get it into place, and pull the heat off.
Exceeding the critical temperature of a given steel will alter it's grain size, and remove any heat treating that was done during production. Decarburization will also occur, which might cause a problem depending on the application. In my opinion, too much heat was applied to this part in the video, but then how much strength does the handle need.
Great series. Would a lead filled mallet lessen the deformation if you wanted to keep more of the profile? Here in Sweden some people use these rifles to shorten the barrel to minimum legal length and put a sound suppressor on it along with an aimpoint for moose and bear hunting in thick forrest, sometimes called a moose pistol.
Can you cover filling a crack that runs parallel to the stock, starting from the tang bolt and terminating in the wrist? I have a couple M39’s I want to preserve.
Ray, what was the bluing product that you used? My audio wasn't picking it up very well, and you didn't show the label. Have several firearms that I would like to re-blue, but everything that I've tried hasn't worked very well, and that stuff seemed to be great!
The title alone gave me a semi. Forging. Bolt. Handle. Husqvarna. I like all of those words. Those are all nice words. In the same title?!?!??! Ffffffffffffffffffffft
Hey Eric, if you ever want to sell that Husqvarna M46, please give me first chance to buy it!! It's a RAYS custom M46!! I really like the videos where you restore and improve historic guns by a true craftsman. Keep it up!! God Bless.
Because this is a much more elegant way of doing it. Risers are just a bandaid. (Not to mention it making your rifle less consistent between different shot distances.) Plus, the risers you'd need would be too big.
Love the channel and this was an interesting video. But a 20min video of a guy heating up and polishing a knob. May have to reconsider my life choices lol
Ray and Larry Potterfield are the Bob Ross' of Gunsmithing! I can watch them all day and never get bored.
Larry Potterfield is a slime ball.

What do you dislike about Larry Potterfield?
So true!
lol ok
I absolutely love these video's. Ray should have a TV show or his own RUclips. He's awesome to the point and easy to understand and great to follow.
I agree - he's quite skilled and has a no-nonsense presentation.
That was damn nice to watch
Who doesn't like to see a man polish his handle

You provided more help than you think Mike!
Ray is such a great asset to have access to. Great work.
I'll be damned, asmr gunsmithing
What does asmr mean
Using an O/A torch is so much fun. This was beautiful to watch.
Try brushing the piece as your forging to limit the sanding needed afterwards
also makes it look a little better.

Tell Ray he's doin a damn good job
Wow Ray!! You truly are a pro. That was explained well and the finished product was like factory made. Awesome stuff sir
I don't understand why some people automatically dislike a video.

Or maby some people don't like that he is molesting a classic mauser rifle
I don't like the fact he never used gloves when using machinery or chemicals. Bad practice when instructing people.
Loving this series. Im glad its consecutive too instead of large breaks. Let us know how well it shoots please.
Nekoda Massey agreed. It’s called viewer momentum. More content creators should take notice.
Nekoda Massey I agree, this has been EXCELLENT. And I wish I had all those tools and jigs...damn.
I just found this video because I have a similar project on a Mauser 98. Great tutorial!
Real nice work.
Ray is a pleasure to watch. Thanks.
Ray should be on the channel more,

Thank you Ray and the IV8888 team for this video and all the hard work and knowledge! True inspiration to me, thank you again!
Ray is most definitely the kind of guy that you want on your side. Dude f*cking kicks a$$.
This is a real gunsmith tech u did...
Great to see your work Ray. It is like watching an artist create a masterpiece.
This is so cool. I love videos that show what gunsmiths do behind the scenes.
Ray, you give great instruction. You give me the motivation and confidence to do my own projects. I have watch you fo the Saiga build and others.
Great work.
Superb skill and craftsmanship. It is an honour to watch a Master; thank you.
Damn Eric you aged considerably!
Awesome job 👍🏻 love these videos

Great video! Make sure to eventually show us the results of all this hard work in a glorious final video.
Really an excellent video and presentation. Well done!!!!!!
Hi Ray, I really enjoy your gun smithing videos. Very informative. Keep 'em coming!
I wish I knew you and could come spent a year watching and learning from you!!
You sir, are a freaking master. Awesome stuff.
Nice job Ray!
Would you say reshaping a bolt is easier of its already bent or if its a straight handle?
Great video Ray!
Damn good video, keep up the great work guys!
Man I love these videos. Keep em coming.
So satisfying watching that!
where is the final picture of this renovated hva m46?
Nice work, man. 👍

Watchable and informative. Thank you.
Great video.... I have an m38 Carcano that I need the bolt handle bent very similar to clear the scope...
I am taking a Gun Smith class at my local college and am going to bend the bolt handle on a m38 Carcano.. thanks for the video...
Great work. I enjoyed the video.

Very Cool and thanks for the knowledge Sir
Really like the gunsmithing videos.
Is this the last video in the series or have i missed the bedding and asembly video somehow?
I really like these videos maybe someday I will try project like this myself
Excellent video thanks gents
You can use tool makers stones. grate job, thanks you.
thats a work of art
Really like these video's. Pleasant to watch and informative, thanks!
Really cool video, thanks Ray! I like these intense ass gunsmithing videos... moarrrrrr
I hope that the beding and stock work will be the last part of this series so they can take it out and shoot it
You remind me of Norm Abrams from the, Yankee Woodshop. He also made it look sooo easy to do.
Does the heating the bolt weaken it in anyway
Depends on the steel
I would think it would definitely take away any temper from the steel. How far the heat travels and it's temperature will determine if the bolt is weakened. I don't think I would want this done to any of my guns.

Fantastic video, amazing to see the final bolt-result. You did mention this blueing is avaliable at Brownells right?
I used flapper wheels and die grinder mounted scrounges.
Would you guys consider doing a love Q&A with you,Chad and ray?
YES!!! More please.
Would a propane torch at home get it hot enough to bend a bolt?
Just propane, or oxy-propane? Former, maybe. Latter, definitely. Get a MAPP cylinder for your prop torch. That'll def do it.
Can you cover filling a crack that runs parallel to the stock, starting from the tang bolt and terminating in the wrist? I have a couple M39’s I want to preserve.
Why didn't you just chop the bolt handle off and weld on a bent replacement bolt handle?
Ray, what was the bluing product that you used? My audio wasn't picking it up very well, and you didn't show the label. Have several firearms that I would like to re-blue, but everything that I've tried hasn't worked very well, and that stuff seemed to be great!
Anyone have a link for the bolt bending block? Cant find one anywhere
Fist bumps 👊👊👊👊👊, high fives/pats on the back ✋✋✋✋✋
What is better .338 Remington ultra magnum or .338 lupua magnum?
Should I get a 270 or a 30-30
Try using a brass mallet, that way you don't have to worry any hammer marks.
Nice work.
Excellent!
Awsome Vid!
Good video, helps out.
It never fails, the phone will ALWAYS ring just as you get to the point that you can't put things down lol
Man, you're making me want to upgrade my Mosin Nagant..
Don't do it. Don't bubba that Nagant
Mosins are a dime a million. Go for it Mike!
@@Jpb6583 not really everyone has the same mindset you did and now most Mosins are going for $350 to $500
If you pay over 300 for any mosin, you are an idiot.
I paid 900 for my PU :)
Hurry with the next video!!
Can this be done on a Mosin Nagant bolt ?
No
Very neat.
Aren't you supposed to heat it EVENLY?
Outstanding thanks
Very nice video.
this was cool
Hey eric can you some time in the future try to get a Krag Jørgensen rifle and do a video about it luv your vid by the way
Why are you wasting so much heat on the ball of the bolt handle??
The title alone gave me a semi. Forging. Bolt. Handle. Husqvarna. I like all of those words. Those are all nice words. In the same title?!?!??! Ffffffffffffffffffffft
Right? Instaclick. This video healed my soul a bit.
Hey Eric, if you ever want to sell that Husqvarna M46, please give me first chance to buy it!! It's a RAYS custom M46!! I really like the videos where you restore and improve historic guns by a true craftsman. Keep it up!! God Bless.
Gunsmithing ASMR
You should've used a rosebud on the torch
Why molest the rifle instead of putting a riser block
Is it yours??
Because this is a much more elegant way of doing it. Risers are just a bandaid. (Not to mention it making your rifle less consistent between different shot distances.) Plus, the risers you'd need would be too big.
Diecripan?
Watching this at 1.5 seems like normal speed.. lol.
I need to save my old belt sandpaper to scratch where my shaft & nob meet
Hot damn dude get it hot enough?!
10:58 gut rumble lol
Hit the air trigger on accident and blow the handle off lol
Put it in the quench
Love the channel and this was an interesting video. But a 20min video of a guy heating up and polishing a knob. May have to reconsider my life choices lol
Well that was a bit hard to watch.
