I might just be making a stretch but i think this song and Gumdrops is about gratification to hide other personal problems? It's hard to think about what bothers you when you are ingesting things to not think about what troubles you. Finding small muses or something sugary to keep the mind preoccupied. Because being on fire means you aren't dead. It isn't healthy, but you gotta stay alive.

I see the "whistling" as a metaphor for trying to be fine and cool which is supplemented by these trivial things like ASMR videos and Cupcakes. "Keep me on fire" at first seemed to contradict this as it seemed to suggest a stoking of the flames (which in this case are the troubles that plague the singer) rather than ignoring them. However, paired with the lines "Into the burning gaze winds will obscure my ashes", it reads to me that he wants to ignore the flame entirely and just let it fizzle out. He doesn't want to stoke it or put it out, simply let it be and let it metaphorically burn him out. There's probably more to it but that's the general gist of my thoughts. Excellent song, Nelward!
