Glad you got to go to BSF. My dad worked and retired from there. I have pictures of him and the crew sitting on those stairs after they built them. Hard to walk up? Imagine carrying all that material in to build them. Bears? As I kid I was able to assist in the bear relocation project. I had the opportunity to carry a cub out of the Smokey’s. The momma bear was under sedation(obviously) and we were able to transport to the BSF afterwards. Pretty neat experience.

Love winter hikes because you see so much more when the leaves are gone. We have hiked to the two arches and it is amazing to see in person. Went to Standing Stone State park near Cookeville a couple of weeks ago and did a hike around the lake. Really a pretty place to visit.

I am 76 back in the early 80’s my uncle owned a camp ground on the edge of Picket State Park. I repelled from the largest arch. It was a real hike then. No stair short cuts or paths.

My understanding is rock formations that form an arch are called an arch if formed by wind erosion and called a bridge is formed by water erosion.
Thank you for these videos as it helps me plan cool side trips as I moved to the area in 2019.

Hi, Hoags: When you first arrived in TN and began sharing your hiking experiences, I mentioned that you should eventually go to Big South Fork. My hometown is Jamestown, TN, near the TN Big South Fork area, and I’m happy that you have shared this beautiful hike with your subscribers. Jamestown has become a community filled with horse owners who seek acreage. I began interacting with you when you first moved to TN. I lived in Nashville, and attempted to assist in maneuvering your acclimation from CA to TN when some were not as accepting due to ignorance of your values. I am now a SoCal, San Diego resident, but I adhere to my TN Appalachian roots, while loving San Diego and its people. There are such awesome people in these United States!
