If you want to have fun with that line of thought, yeah. He's basically a vagabond but not by choice. I guess he learnt to carry essential supplies with him all the time
I've heard they have different personalities between the manga and the 1989 anime, but in the original anime she was a good and funny character. It only gets better from here!
I talked about it behind spoiler space after the first skater episode, and I can repeat it without now that you have seen the spoiler event. In the original the skater episodes were effectively bumped to season 2 because of real life events. This created a major continuity glitch over the whole "fist kiss" situation. Not counting the Kiss of Death peck on the cheek, in the original because of the delay the kiss you just saw where Shampoo kisses Ranma on the lips ended up being his first kiss. Then later when the skater episodes aired you get his whole massive reaction to Mikado being his "first kiss". It's nice now to get the events in their proper order with no schedule-induced continuity glitches.
By the way her weapons are called Chui but she is skilled in multiple weapons including a dao style sword, bow, and polearms. just incase you wanted know
Ranma is a pretty nice dude, I have to admit this. Although Ryoga never miss a chance to pour water on him (Even in front of shampoo too), Ranma actually respects his feelings and keeping him being p-chan a secret.
There's a gag in the original anime, they actually do it twice, that I wish had survived to this version where Azusa goes into her secret vault at night, and says good night to her "collection of cute". Every damn item... it takes so long that by the time it's done she has to turn around and say good morning to every item. If nothing else it explains her brainrot to some degree... I don't think she has time for anything but skating and maintaining her collection. There's a new item the second time they present the gag that is hilarious. That said, the shonen elements of Ranma are kind of at their worst with the ice skating arc... 2.5-3 episodes for dedicated to a series of fights that are in a lot of ways the lowest stakes in the series. Ranma doesn't learn any new moves, Mikado and Azusa don't return every few episodes. There's some good content... but by the 3rd episode, I'm checkout of the fight.
Rumiko was still in her , throw everything at the wall and sees what stick. The Ice Skaters being a main example as she probably couldn’t find any reason for the cast to come back to the ice rink and Mikado basically being a less funny Kuno
Another interesting change from the original. They added some filler to the skater episodes, making them a full three episode. So Shampoo's introduction happened at the start of a separate episode in a totally different scene, though the basic events once Shampoo bashes through the wall were the same. Instead of the school nurse office where Akane was waking up after the skaters the scene happened in a random cafe at some later point in time. They started the scene with Ranma-girl ordering ice cream and talking about how she could never order something that cute as a boy. Cue Shampoo's entrance and from there events went mostly the same.
Really like how much they are able to express with Shampoo through just subtle movements of the face and body language, it works a lot better than leaning too hard on her broken Japanese (or whatever language you are watching in).
Come to think of it, why does Ryoga have bath supplies? I wouldn't have been able to carry them into the bath, he would use what ever is there. Mostly, he just needs a second in hot water.
I remember that whole Charlotte arc make me hate Ryoga as a child. As Ranma said, Akane is not a Cat, and they can't decide for her in a duel. This whole arc was about how Azusa wanted p-chan as her new cute object to own, and yet Ryoga did the same thing to Akane. The fact he is still wiling to go to her room at night and pretend to be her pet is telling. And later in a manga theres a lot examples how he is a hipocrit who keeps excussing himself in the name of "love". Ranma should Just tell Akane and he never did because of honor. The are all idiots.😂 and Yes Shampoo is great and she have major role in Ranma 1/2. Other than Akane she is the most important girl in Ranma's harem.
Hmm, if the Amazons have a tradition/rule like "If a man defeats an Amazon, they get married", it kinda goes back to episode 2, where all the boys want to defeat Akane to go on a date with her.
@@thelegendaryklobb2879 The funny thing is that Megumi-sama actually sounds CUTER now than in the old series. I'm guessing that Shampoo's voice is getting adjusted for her real manga personality. The fact that Akane will probably never realise that Ryoga is P-chan is so hilarious 🤣 Shampoo is definitely my 2nd favourite character of this show 😌 What will happen to Ranma now that he beat her in his 2 form 😂 I hope he will be able to survive to those shenanigans 🙏🏻
How can they seem so smart, yet do the dumbest things? They are teenagers. Good review. MAPPA did a good job with this episode. The ending to the skate fight was great. Ryoga got to shine a way that were rarely shown in the manga or first anime. When Shampoo showed up, the episode kicked into high gear. As for Shampoo being the best character. Let us just say there is an omelet cook waiting in the wings that could rival her.
That's interesting that Shampoo is considered peak. I might have said ice skating was peak or maybe the stuff later on with Cologne. But Shampoo in and of herself... I think i need to see how the remake handles it because I don't remember.
Shampoo in the anime was super popular because she was given Lum's personality. In the manga she was just as much of an annoying psychotic bitch as Kodachi, just cuter. However, most of the plot progressing gimmicks in the manga came from Shampoo and her access to "secret ancient Chinese" stuff, so she is a really important character in the manga too.

But other then Ryoga and this one guy shinosuke which only has a single arc in the whole show there isnt anyone note worthy rival from Ranma and given that they both are main characters they should have an equal destribution of rivarly
Eh, depends. In the anime, yes, all the other girls get good exposure and Shampoo for example was basically Lum and definitely overshadowed Akane. However, in the original manga only Ukyo comes close. Everyone else is a totally messed-up psycho (especially Kodachi). So in the original manga, Akane actually had three good suitors while Ranma had two. You do realize the original manga was released in the 80s, and this reboot clearly stated in the 1st episode that the story sets in the 80s, so the mindsets back then are completely different from today?
I've suggested to new viewers to watch the series with an open mind instead of having expectations that matches today's mindset. With your 2024 mindset, as you say, this obviously isn't for you. But this series already existed before you were even born.
Honestly , the best characters aside Akane, will show up later, Ukyo and then Akari, for me they are the best trio ! wait till they will show up , especially Ukyo , who will show up with a bang.
Wait till you find out what Ranma's phobia is
