I dont guess there's any reasonable way to truly do warm engine leak down tests on these inline BMW 6 cylinders unless you want to remove and reinstall the fan and coil packs etc multiple times? Is a cold leak down test generally acceptable in the BMW world?
Its really the only way to do it, unless like you said remove and install parts multiple times. If you have a bad head gasket or valve or piston, there is a good chance You will see the numbers off well its hot or cold. I do understand it the heat could play a role in the issue so maybe do suspected problematic area first if your worried. or you could probably run the engine with the fan out too if you really want to make sure its hot during test.
It’s funny, I just did a leak down on a x3 for a potential head gasket issue too, I did it warm, but came back with less than 5% leak. So I’m thinking the pcv valve on the valve cover. Good luck my friend! Let me know what you see
@@dirtykurty92 what are your symptoms on that? I haven't worked on any BMWs in my life except for this one over the past few years, but it keeps over pressurizing and puking all the coolant out of the expansion tank. Already replaced the tank and cap, new thermostat, new water pump... Can't find any trace of coolant in the oil and it still runs completely normally. Has never overheated or been run hot - it consistently pukes out a bunch of coolant followed by low coolant warning. Top it up and repeat every 25-50 miles or so.

@@dirtykurty92 thanks, yeah, makes sense. I'm trying to diagnose a possible head gasket on an X5 and will be doing this next. Appreciate your video!

Are you making sure you properly bleed the air out of the cooling system?
Music is really distracting
Ahh ok thanks. Hope you got the info you were looking for!
Broo loved the video man , plenty of details but bro, leave out the music 😂, it ruined it
Lol my toxic trait: thinking I have to put music behind my videos
