    Very interesting. Amazing how far technology has come, and where it's going.
    Made me think of when my parents used to make me stand against the edge of a door, so they could mark my height once a year: parents in the future, will just 3D scan their offspring to chart their growth!

      What a good (and slightly odd idea)! You could morph them together to see how they grew up.

    A great bit of kit, especially for a club to own like you said, Rob. Plus, seeing you prancing about at the end goes to show you've got a comical side of humour about yourself, lol.

      I had a lot of fun messing about with Mixamo. I also used a thing called Nvidia Omniverse Audio2Face to rig up a scan of my head that would talk and pull expressions, but it looked really creepy, so left that out.

    Thank you for your honest review. I've recently purchased a RevoPoint Pop3 and experiencing similar issues. ( The comment about the "Angry Wife" while scanning was awesome! :) )

    Hello and thank you for this most interesting video. Did you or any of this community viewers try photogrammetry? Or iPhone Lidar (requires iPhone 11 or higher I believe). A comparative would be interesting. While out of the recommendations for this scanner, will you try to scan an OO or H0 gauge freight car (making it mat by spraying it before)? What about a real life simple freight car which are always mat with the natural weathering? A water tower or some simple brick work or fences would also be an interesting test. I would avoid automobiles as they are probably too shiny...

    Interesting stuff, Rob - I know some people will whinge about it being a paid promotion but I think you did a decent job of balancing that by putting the unit through its paces. Now, if you could just get access to the cab of a L&Y Pug...😉😁

    • @LittleWicketRailway
      @LittleWicketRailway  Год назад

      Thanks. I know, paid promotions aren't ideal, but they let me demonstrate things I either couldn't afford or wouldn't think to try. I aim to be transparent and give fair reviews. Turns out I don't have an affiliate link, I just got confused and it's just a normal link, so no commission on this one 😂 The video was meant to be out in December, but I didn't feel like I'd had enough time with, so held off to get more practice. 3D scanning is a skill, like using a camera and taking good photos, just slightly more frustrating because a scan either tends to be good or unusable. A good scan of a L&Y pug cab would be incredible!

      I think the oo gauge stuff would be too small and detailed for it. It might handle the G gauge stuff ok. Could try a wagon.

    Very fair review i would think, with it being a new technology it’s going to be expensive and need polishing etc, but like you said, ModelU gets you one scan for £50 so it isn’t that bad a value, i suppose as well you could even offer locally a cheaper version to people if they want themselves scanned, or a certain car etc, so there is the possibility of making money out of it too

    Great video, scanners have come a long way in the last few years, without paying thousands, the sub 1K ones were rubbish, but this one looks fairly decent for the money. I suspect the Maximo figure is a better dancer than you are!

    I have always thought that the current ready-to-run models of a GWR auto coach lack interior cab detailing especially at O gauge so that would be a good one to scan.

    • @LittleWicketRailway
      @LittleWicketRailway  Год назад

      That's a really good idea! I think the scanner would do a good job of scanning the controls if they weren't too shiny and there was space to get round them.

    Could you not make a copy of the tyre, flip it and join to make a complete tyre? Or create a cylinder the diameter of the post box and merge them? Same for anything where you could not scan the bottom. Scan the bottom and merge.

    Full color 3D printing has existed for many years. I have had prints done by companies with full color printers for not nearly as expensive as you would expect considering how expensive the machine is.

    I saw a bunch of these videos and I ask myself, what do they different? I haven't manged to get one simple scan of a stone, claymodel or simple things like that on a turntable under perfect conditions. Most of the time the scanner refuses to start at all or the scan is missing some parts no matter how often u repeat hovering the area. I spent over a week now trying to get at least one scan. It's just frustrating!

    • @LittleWicketRailway
      @LittleWicketRailway  5 месяцев назад

      I can empathize. These scanners really only work for quite specific applications and you have the persevere. Part of it is technique and part of it is luck. Even if you get a relatively good scan, you can expect to have to tidy things up in 3D software. I told Creality that I would need to keep the scanner for longer and delay the video by a few weeks because it was taking time to get used to it. It's ok at scanning faces and that can be done relatively quickly. It's not good with big things, smooth things, reflective things, small things, etc. Hopefully you've managed to get something out of it by now.

    I've seen terrible reviews of the Ferret Pro. Are they just not doing it right? Or is it really as terrible as they say? Can you help clarify? Thanks!

    • @LittleWicketRailway
      @LittleWicketRailway  Месяц назад +1

      It's not easy to get good scans and it has quite a few limitations in terms of what can be scanned. Almost every scan will need tidying up which is time consuming. It took us a long time to get any good results, I told Creality that I needed to keep it longer and delayed the video so that we could spend more time with it. The more practice you have with it the more you learn what will/won't work. I'm happy with the scan of myself and it blows my mind that this tech is available as a handheld device, but as I said in the video, I don't think it's a tool that railway modellers will really want. I'm not a tech channel and I've nothing to compare it to. I wouldn't accept the offer of another 3D scanner as I feel like I've explored that avenue in the context of railway modelling.

      @@LittleWicketRailway I'm looking to scan ground, road, foliage, maybe vehicles and metallic props. Do you think this would be the best choice? The iPhone has Lidar, there are photogrammetry apps, and other scanners. As someone who has firsthand experience, do you believe this scanner would be a good fit for my work?

    • @LittleWicketRailway
      @LittleWicketRailway  Месяц назад

      @Utsab_Giri I don't think it would be good for those. Anything metallic will be a pain, you'll need to cover it in a powder or tracking dots. Something large like a car would also be difficult due to size, plus all the glass/reflective surfaces. Medium sized car parts might be ok, the wheels I scanned came out ok.
      There must be RUclips channels out there dedicated to 3D scanning who could give you a suggestion for those applications.

    SO once you get a scan that i like i just hit the down arrow icon that must be the export , but do i need to rename it xxx.stl to down load ? it just sits there and says 0% , i have s3d and cura to slice and print on my fdm printer. I got it you have to change from color mode to original or it will not export as an stl file
