The trap is on . The short end should be connected to the drain. This could be added to your clogging problem. Your drain seems to be too high so you might not be able to corect it, tho. But just keep it in mind for future reference

@@Suntreecarpentry lol no worries the part that is longer goes onto the tail piece (vertical piece from the sink) and the short side goes into the arm (horizontal piece that goes into larger pipe)
