Thank you so much for showing how to unclog my kitchen drain! I’m 71 years old and so relieved to not have to call a plumber. I just followed your video and now my drains work again. Thank you!
I tried unclogging my washroom's sink based on your guidance. I had to do it quickly and neatly as possible cuz I didn't wanted my Mum to know (cuz I clogged it heheh) and guess what? I SUCCEEDED! She still doesnt even know I unclogged it and the water's not staying in it. So THANK YOU so much! I just turned 20 and literally this is my greatest achievement so far🌟😂
Thank you! I wrongly assumed the clog was farther down the drain. I was making mental notes of all the stuff I was going to have to buy at Home Depot before I saw your video. Fixed it in 5 minutes and it cost me nothing!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! My husband tried Draino and 3 different snakes, and nothing worked. I watched this video and 20 minutes later our sink was working again! GIRL POWER!
You are a great instructor! Very detailed, clear yet to the point. Congratulations! Your tips were very useful even though the pipes under my kitchen sink are GLUED! I am going to call a plumber to unclog the pipes AND for changing the pipes from glued to screwed parts.
Using that glue makes the repair easy time. It doesn't make the next time AT ALL. He used the better way but it makes the nrxt time much harder. Worth trying the better way. good luck.
I like to put the sink stoppers in the sinks so the water doesn't pour out when you unhook the drain. Then release the stoppers once the bucket is under the sink with the pipes off. 👍
My kitchen sink has been clogged for a few days now. I have the augur but wasn't using it properly. Thanks to your video. Sink drain is now flowing 100%.
This is the info I was looking for! It's too bad that you didn't actually have a clog to show us. I have to do this tomorrow and hopefully I solve my problem, since the clog wasn't in the P trap or the goose neck leading into the wall. Thank you for sharing!
Great video, I recommend using a cup or something to remove as much of the standing water as possible before disconnecting the drain line down below. Once the suspected clog is removed you can always run the faucet to test for proper draining.
😊Thank you! Liquid Plumber soaking for an hour didn’t help at all! It was easy to remove the J-trap to find the gummy pasta clog. You saved me money on a plumber.😊
when using Liquide drain cleaners and they do not work, please be careful. Make sure you remove all or almost all the chemical product ,. dilute and dilute whatever is left in the sink before dismantling any tubes. The residual chemicals can burn your skin so please use personal protection such as rubber gloves glasses and possibly respirator.
Thank you so much for the video! I watched many videos but this one r ally helped me! The clog in my sink is behind the wall, so this one is what I was looking for! May be you wanna include these key words (clog behind the wall?) in the title so it will help more people like me. It’s awesome that you included every step in the repair. Again, Thank you so much!
Thank you for the video, just used it to clear out a clog in the wall of my kitchen sink. Started manual and then went drill lol. Did the full 25 feet.
THANK YOU!!!! I unplugged our sink with your help and saved a bunch of 💰 ... Another person here saying don't put a crap ton of egg shells down your drain ..heh 😀
Good job! This video is for me, I came home last night and my sink that was draining slowly finally stopped as I was cleaning the sinks, stainless steel duo, with one faucet. I was about to use Mr. Plumber, pro - strength, clog destroyer , but after watching this Video, I'll follow your method . Thanks for Sharing
Thank you! I've never done anything plumbing related before and this is exactly what I needed to see to know how to fix my sink, all resolved now, it was pretty gross but it's fixed.
Thanks for the great video on using the Rigid Power Spin. I just purchased one and am getting ready to use it. Before buying it, I used a manual snake - the type without a canister. The "slip-tube" handle is really hard to twist, so I couldn't really get any torque on it. I hit a "T" fitting about 4-feet under and it was a real struggle to get past it. I finally did, only to be foiled again about 10-feet down at another T. That was the end of the road for my manual snake. Try as I might, the manual auger would go no further. Unfortunately, the clog is past that. I'm hoping that using a drill with the power spin will do the trick. NOTE: This and other similar videos show what I like to call "Pristine Plumbing." I've NEVER seen a snake/auger come back clean. They are usually covered with stinky black sludge that I like to call "excrement of swamp creature from the black lagoon." That junk likes to get on everything and it leaves stains. Eeeoooo! I understand why you don't show it. It's totally gross. It might, however, be a nasty surprise for an unsuspecting home owner! FIRST UPDATE: I have not beat the swamp monster yet, but I do like the Rigid Power Spin. Just for comparison, I tried it manually first. I couldn't even get past the first T at 4-feet. Then I put on a drill motor and slipped right past the first T without any trouble. My hopes went up. I hit the next T at 10-feet. It more of a struggle, but I finally got past that one too. However, only 3-feet later, it stopped for good. I don't even know what I hit because there should not be any fitting at that location. I darn near twisted the cable apart trying to power through it. I'm going to go open a different clean out and come at it from a different direction. I'll report back. FINAL UPDATE: I am very happy to report that the drain did NOT win. That's important for a grunting he-man like me. HA! The Rigid Power Spin with cordless drill attached worked very well from a different clean out opening. I used all 25-feet of cable and JUST made it to the clog. When I pulled it out, there was some stringy goo stuck in the very end of the auger bulb. That disrupted the clog just enough that I was able to finish it off with a treatment of baking soda and vinegar followed by a very large pot of boiling water. It's running freely now, but I'll be following up with earth friendly enzyme treatment to help eat away left over swamp monster poo.
@@HomeRepairTutor I've been scanning the comments for this exact question --- How do you maintain the auger/snake when it comes out covered in muck? Do you just retract it back into that container and all is well????

Good video.Sometimes holding the trigger closed in order to feed the cable in or out ,can be hard to maintain due to lack of hand strength, endurance, arthritis etc. I use a simple large spring vice like clamp . Try your repair from SIMPLE to COMPLEX next time you have a drain plug. Try Drano or something else like it before you start disconnecting pipes or sticking snakes down pipes behind the wall (you might break PVC if you don't know how to use it properly).
The problem with using an auger is that sharp tip CAN puncture pipes, which happened when I had a rooter company come out to clear my drain. Great video, you covered all the bases, but after I got the clog from my trap, it was still clogged so I used a plunger, it was a little faster. Just make sure you plug the other sink drain tight or gunk my come shooting out into the air!
Drain snake tip: bend the snake head about 20 degrees in the direction of the tip. This will make snake far more effective in dislodging the plug. I discovered this after many attempts.

About a third of the way in, I paused the video and went to my sink and took the P trap off and a bunch of black gunk fell out of it and then I put it back on and it appears that my sink is draining okay now, so I guess I fixed it. I'll have to keep an eye on it to make sure.
My parents place has the plumbing nightmare of nightmares: tree roots. If you aren't having any luck with these amateur tools and methods and you have large trees in the yard it's possible you have roots growing through your piping system.
